Q: how do you use the self clean feature
A: Never use the self-clean feature on these ovens. There are a couple things that can and often go wrong with self clean. Mine got permanently locked and I had to pay a technician $200 to fix it. He advised to never use self clean again. I recently had the ovens serviced for a issue not related to self clean and the technician felt the overwhelming need to tell me all the bad things that often go wrong with self clean. Most of the negative reviews are associated with self clean.
A: Hello Jeda! Per the Installation Instructions: Electrical supply junction box should be located 3" (7.6 cm) maximum below the support surface when the oven is installed in a wall cabinet. Right before a dinner party, my 16 year-old JennAire double convection oven malfunctioned to the point where we turned off the power to it. Over the years, we used it for roasts, loaves and loaves of bread and dozens of cookies and casseroles. We researched double ovens, read reviews and stumped around to different stores to see what was available. With a special price and a deal for free installation, we decided on the KitchenAid and I'm glad we did. Compared to my old oven, this one is eerily quiet. You really can't hear the fans - just a faint whistling sound and, since it's still fairly new, some creaking and settling noises. I haven't used the express pre-heat feature - but it only takes 15 minutes or so for the oven to heat up. I've used the proofing feature - it's great when the kitchen is too cold for bread to rise normally. Bread, cookies, muffins and tarts have come out perfectly done. It's very entertaining to turn on the oven light - almost like a theater! Because the window is so large, I have been cleaning it once a week. You wouldn't want gunk to build up on it and spoil the show. General cleanup is easy - but that's probably because I've been wiping up any spills right after baking. Some minor annoyances - the oven light turns on both ovens. You should be able to turn them on separately. Also, there's only one timer - there should be separate timers for each oven. All-in-all, I've been very happy with this oven...and can recommend it to anyone who enjoys baking at home.

The oven has worked great so far. Bakes evenly and wasn't hard to figure out how to use. It's quieter than my 18 year old kitchen aid it replaced. My only complaint would be that it protrudes out from the opening. I didn't realize there was an additional flush mount kit that I needed to order to get it flush like the old one. Best Buy doesn't sell the kit so they wouldn't have installed it that way anyway I guess although it is a safety concern. The part of the door that sticks out is obviously hot to the touch. Would have done it differently if I had known about the kit.

So, I am no cook. I would subject no one, not even my worst enemy, to the food I cook. My husband, however, is insanely talented when it comes to all things meat, grains, vegetables, you name it. I just clean up the mess that ensues when my husband tornadoes through the kitchen to make family meals. It’s a system that works for us, and I am grateful. My husband, being the adventurous, delightful cook that he is, could not WAIT to get his hands on this double oven. His parents have the same ovens, albeit an older model. This was the first appliance installed during our kitchen remodel, and the day we received it, he immediately set to cooking chicken cordon bleu for some grieving family members. Oh. My. Goodness. This dish was.. WOW. I can say my husband’s cooking prowess is renowned and all, but I cannot help but think these ovens were the reason the food turned out so fantastic. I don’t know if it’s because we had a range from the early 90’s and were fortunate enough to purchase this model, but everything that has been baked, cooked, whatever in these ovens has tasted absolutely phenomenal. It’s beautiful, functions how I would imagine a darn good oven should function, and is easy and straightforward to operate. It doesn’t heat up the whole house either, which is something I was really concerned about. These ovens make me want to educate myself a bit more in the culinary arts, and that is not something I would have ever imagined for myself. I can also finally see our household being able to comfortably host a Thanksgiving because of this tremendous workhorse of a double oven. Maybe.
