Rinko Kikuchi gives a heartbreaking performance showing her character's loneliness and the desire to find a 'long lost treasure'. I'm truly thankful to find this on bluray as at this moment it's currently not streaming on any service in the US. Keep physical media alive!

"Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter" is a slow burning film about the power of obsession and isolation. Rinko Kikuchi gives a devastating performance as the titular treasure hunter, a woman isolated from and broken by society's demanding expectations of her and her need to find the loot from "Fargo". Her journey from the sterile metropolis of Japan to the frozen tundras of Minnesota is heartfelt filmmaking at its finest. The Blu-ray's picture and audio quality is great and bonus features range from deleted scenes to an immensely informative audio commentary.

Independent movies come and go. This film, however, stays with you for as long as you wish it be. Case in point, it certainly is not for everyone. Some will find it a constant drag. Others will see it as a masterpiece. It's one of those movies where you have to be at a certain mindset; to accept what is visually and soundly aesthetic. Then, perhaps, a connection between one and the titled character have in common is expressed.

I first heard of Kimikos story on npr and it broke my heart. When i saw this on one of my trips to best buy. I had to buy it. Its so sad. This movie is done well... A bit of a slow start though.

Even though the video starts out in a foreign language with subtitles, it switches over to English about halfway through and is very easy to follow up to the switch. You will have many mixed feelings throughout the movie which I feel makes it one of the most thought-provoking movies I've ever seen. So is the ending happy or sad? It's up to the viewer! I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!

I heard about the film on a podcast and was pleased to find it at the local Best Buy. Impressed that they maintain a wide variety of DVDs.

Beautiful film with worthwhile audio/video and sub-par extras. The extras that exist are nice, there just aren't that many of them.

Based on some of the reviews i've read about this movie before purchase, I was expecting a bit more that what i came away with after watching it. The emotional punch is present throughout, but I suppose I was hoping for a more satisfying conclusion to the journey. Rinko Kikuchi does not disappoint as the protagonist, and the other actors were okay. Overall, it was quite the gut-wrenching journey and worth a watch.

highly emotional film had me feeling so much for this girl. believing that the treasure from the movie Fargo is real Kumiko goes on a misguided search that had me close to tears with all she went through, her personal torment and her hopes of finding that better life was truly an emotional experience.

Outstanding movie. I'll admit, I'm a bit biased as I love everything I've seen Rinko Kikuchi in (yes, even including Pacific Rim). Wonderfully told and beautifully shot, I think this is a great movie for those who are still fans of true storytelling and enjoy themselves getting lost in the characters journey.

An interesting premise for a movie. The cinematography and score is excellent. The story is fairly simple and there is not much to the plot, but watching the character go through the situation is what I found intriguing. It's not for everyone, but I would recommend at least a rental.

This movie is about a quirky young lady that has a fantasy adventure that is real to her. It shows how someone with a boring an unfulfilling life can create an adventure that she carries us along with.

Very good acting, but the lack of a real story makes that merely a divertisement, and the lack of an ending to the story leaves one disappointed. The problem is, it's not "a true story," as advertised. If you search online for the story behind it, you'll find that it's really an urban legend that the filmmakers decided to run with. If they had pursued the real story behind that legend, they might have done well. Instead, it comes off as a post-adolescent attempt at being clever, displaying a lack of understanding or appreciation for the depth of the human person. I was sorry to have spent the time and money on this movie.

This movie had an interesting concept. Sadly, Kumiko was a passive victim making it unbearable for me to watch. The last 15 minutes almost redeemed it but weren't quite enough.
