About This Item
This brand new plastic model kit features the Messerschmitt Me 410A-1 Fighter Aircraft in 1:72 scale by Airfix, designed for Level 2 builders. The kit comes in a brand new box with vintage-style packaging and is officially licensed, containing 149 detailed parts. Paint and cement are required but not included, and the parts are molded in light gray unless otherwise indicated. The kit includes decals to design the plane in two different schemes, and the assembled model measures approximately 6.8 inches in length and 8.89 inches in wingspan. The Messerschmitt Me 410A-1, Werknummer 10185, coded U5+KG, served with 16. Staffel of Kampfgeschwader 2 "Holzhammer" from Amsterdam-Schiphol in October 1943. Developed as an improved successor to the Me 210, the Me 410 featured more powerful Daimler-Benz DB 603A engines, refined aerodynamics, and improved handling. In its A-1 configuration, it was primarily used as a fast bomber, capable of carrying various ordnance while defending itself with heavy forward-firing armament, including 20 mm and 13 mm machine cannons. In late 1943, 16./KG 2 conducted fast, high-altitude bombing and intruder missions over England and the North Sea, targeting industrial centers, ports, and Allied shipping, with the Me 410’s speed and firepower allowing it to evade or engage Allied fighters. The aircraft also served in reconnaissance and heavy fighter roles, with some fitted with additional weaponry, such as the 50 mm BK 5 cannon, to attack B-17 and B-24 formations. Despite its capabilities, the Me 410 could not fully counter Allied air superiority, and losses increased into 1944. This 1:72 scale model accurately captures the sleek yet imposing lines of the Me 410A-1, complete with KG 2 markings and wartime camouflage, making it an ideal addition for World War II aviation enthusiasts and collectors, honoring a Luftwaffe aircraft that combined speed, firepower, and versatility.
