LG has released their new 5.1.1 soundbar system S70TR in 2024. The box includes the soundbar, subwoofer, 2 rear speakers, remote control w/2 AA batteries, 3 AC power wires, brackets, spacers, HDMI cable, speaker wire, and paperwork. The soundbar system comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty. Disclaimer: I used this soundbar system in my basement which is around 15'x20'. The room is built for a good movie experience. PROS: ----------- * This system is packed nicely in the box and has a nice appearance. It feels solidly-built, not cheap, but being black, collects dust particles quite well which are seen in some of my pictures. * Easy to connect. After powering on the main soundbar, once ON, the subwoofer and rear speaker lights go from blinking to solid green without any pairing process. When the soundbar is powered off, the sub/rears automatically go into standby mode (solid red light on the units). * Remote is easy to understand and has good responsiveness. * Rear speakers are REVERSIBLE. Since 1 rear speaker must be powered on, regardless of what side your power source is on, the LEFT and RIGHT speakers can be REVERSED in the app. So if your plug is on the right side of your setup, you can put the LEFT speaker on the right side with right speaker on the left side, then reverse the sound output in the app. Since only 1 speaker can be powered on, this was a good workaround and a great feature to have. * Decent bass & rear sound. The subwoofer puts out a decent amount of bass, and the rear speakers provide a good Dolby surround sound experience. * The app interface is much easier to use than using the remote control by itself and having to decipher the LED dots on the front of the soundbar. More options are available there to manage. There are similar options on the TV interface, but the app leads the pack here. * The sound functions (WOW) worked well for the most part, and it does have an option to put into "auto" mode so you don't have to choose. The soundbar will automatically choose what would sound the best based on what you're watching. * Because of the mids/highs, you can definitely keep up with the dialogue of what you're watching without a ton of background noise getting in the way. CONS: ----------- * The sound was acceptable after listening to it for a long time; however, if I started listening to this system after I had just listened to another system, it pales in comparison, even for lesser and other branded systems. There is a ton of treble output on this system even when I have the EQ treble turned down and the bass up. There just isn't a good happy medium that doesn't disappoint or just sound "weird" on the sound spectrum. I expected better overall sound. Having said that, once I listened to it for a while (10 minutes+), my ears got used to it, and it wasn't as bad. Let's just say, I was immersed in sound, but not as much as I would want to be. * Having nothing but colored & blinking lights on the front of a soundbar (to me) is always a "miss". There should always be and LED display on the front that shows what you're doing when you can't use the TV or app interface. It's not difficult to include an LED display with a few letters. Even at this price point, it's a miss. * This could be a CON or a PRO depending on your situation, but I believe more commonly, it would be a CON if you don't know "what" you're buying. When it is advertised as "wireless rear speakers", it's wireless; however, it's WIRED between the 2 rear speakers, and that doesn't always work out logistically in some cases. If you're going to make one speaker wireless, simply make the other one wireless. In this system setup, the LEFT rear speaker is plugged in for power, and speaker wire is run between the 2 speakers. So the right speaker does not have a power wire - just speaker wire. This means that you are limited putting the rear speakers the distance of your speaker wire and you may also have to hide the speaker wire depending on your situation. OTHER OBSERVATIONS: ----------- * AI Sound Pro. LG claims this function will adjust your EQ in real-time based on what you're watching, but I personally did not feel anything changed from the different things I watched and listened to. * Out of the box, the unit took a firmware update which took a few minutes with no hiccups. This was done via the LG soundbar app. * The only connections are HDMI IN, eARC HDMI, and optical. There is a standard 5V/0.5amp USB connection as well. CONCLUSION: ===================== This system is not for the audiophile type. At this price point, I would expect more soundwise. The treble and dialogue really overtake the overall sound experience, and I want to have quite a bit more balance. Even after making adjustments in the app, I just wasn't able to make that happen in a way that would make me really enjoy this system to the fullest. The "wireless/wired" rear speakers was another questionable decision made - having it set up this way is really dependent of your setup at home. This might work well or it might not. I personally like to have little to no wires showing, so it may or may not be a problem for you. In the end, you have to be happy with your purchase and the features you actually paid for. In my case, this system left me wanting more and didn't have as much "immerseness" as one would like at this price point. For many, this system will be fine. Sound, after all, is unique to everyone and what they find acceptable. I already have 1 other LG soundbar from a past purchase, and it cost less and I got a better sound experience from it.

Hello there.
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with the LG S70TR soundbar system. We appreciate your feedback and are glad to hear about the features you found beneficial, such as the easy setup, reversible rear speakers, and the app interface.
We understand that you’re looking for a more balanced sound experience and appreciate your insights on the treble output and the wired connection between the rear speakers. Your input is valuable for us to enhance our products.
To address the treble and sound balance concerns, you might want to experiment with the sound modes and EQ settings in the app to fine-tune the audio to your preference. For the rear speakers, while they are designed to provide flexibility in placement, we understand that the wiring may affect your setup.

When we bought it, our only option was an open boxed system. My husband was wanting a new surround system, so we decided to give it a shot. At first we thought that it was good. But at the end of the first movie, we realized that the two back speakers (the small 2) were not even working. the sound bar and the subwoofer were so strong that we couldn't tell the small speakers weren't working. My husband realized they weren't working when he seen the light on the speaker was red. So he did individual tests on the speakers and sure enough, the small 2 weren't working, they weren't connected. So he tried reconnecting them. They connected and them moments later, disconnected again. It kept disconnecting, so we returned them. Had the small speakers been working, this review would have been much different. Upon some researching, my husband realized that this was a common problem with this system. So we decided to return them instead of trading it in.

Hi, Katelyn. Thank you for taking the time to share what happened with your LG Soundbar (S70TR) model. We understand the importance of having a surround system that delivers consistent rear‑speaker performance, especially when you’re expecting a full immersive setup right out of the box. One helpful step you can try—if you ever work with this model again—is performing a wireless connection reset on the rear speakers. Press and hold the PAIRING button on each rear speaker until the LED blinks, then press the PAIRING button on the soundbar to re‑establish a fresh link. This can help stabilize the wireless connection. You can also explore more soundbar support guidance here: https://www.lg.com/us/support/product/lg-S70TR.AUSALLK. Overall, very frustrated. The sound bar disconnects from the LG OLED TV I purchased when I switch to Roku (needed to gain Spectrum access) to Netflix or other apps. I have to manually connect each time, which is frustrating. I also cannot get the rear speakers to connect and everything seems to be connected correctly. I called Geek squad several times for help, but nothing has worked. I'm a Total Tech member and was told it would cost $100 to have someone come out to my home to help. Overall, I feel this was a waste of my money. I would have expected as a Total Tech member, I would have received better service, including having someone come to my home to help.

Hi, Patti. Thanks for reaching out to us. We truly understand your concern about your experience with your LG Soundbar (S70TR) model and LG OLED TV setup. We really aim to provide products that meet our customers' needs and expectations. It sounds like the sound bar disconnecting when switching sources, like from Roku to Netflix, might be related to the HDMI-CEC settings (Simplink) or the eARC auto setting. Here are a couple of easy steps you can try: Make sure HDMI-CEC (Simplink) is turned on for both your TV and sound bar. Just go to Settings > Sound > Advanced Settings > eARC and select Auto. On the sound bar remote, hold down the Mute button for about 3 seconds until “--” shows up, then press Volume Up. Hi, Kevin. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the LG Soundbar (S70TR) model. We understand how important it is for your audio setup to deliver immersive, room-filling sound — especially when upgrading from a traditional surround system.
If the subwoofer feels underwhelming, try adjusting the bass level using the remote or LG Sound Bar app. You can also experiment with different sound modes like Cinema or Bass Blast+to enhance low-end performance. Placement matters too — positioning the subwoofer closer to a wall or corner can help amplify its output. Hello there, Johns. Thank you for sharing your experience with your LG S70TR sound system. We understand that the speaker setup didn't meet your expectations regarding wireless connectivity, and that the description could be clearer. Your feedback is important, and we'd like to assist you further.
The LG S70TR soundbar system features a wireless subwoofer and wireless rear speakers that connect wirelessly to the main soundbar unit. However, it's important to clarify that while the rear speakers communicate wirelessly with the soundbar, the two individual rear speakers themselves are connected to each other by a speaker wire, and one of these rear speakers needs to be plugged into a power outlet. This design minimizes the number of wires running from the soundbar to the rear of your room, offering more flexibility in placement compared to systems with fully wired rear speakers. We appreciate your point about clarity in product descriptions.

Hi, Netters. Thank you for sharing your experience with the LG Soundbar (S70TR) model. We understand the importance of having a soundbar that delivers steady, uninterrupted audio. For this model, one helpful step that can improve audio stability is to check the HDMI‑eARC connection and ensure the cable is fully seated on both the TV and soundbar, as a loose or unstable connection can cause periodic audio dropouts. Using a certified high‑speed HDMI cable can also help maintain a consistent signal. For more guidance, visit https://www.lg.com/us/support/help-library/audio-cutting-out--20154860345938. Hi, Luise. Thank you for sharing your experience with your LG Soundbar (S70TR) model, and we understand the importance of having every part of your sound system performing the way you expect. Low end LG surround system with awful controls and cumbersome menus. Very hard to set up. The surround is nice when you figure out how to adjust, but the system isn't powerful enough to give good bass and sound without sound distortion. It's like the speakers can't handle it being too loud. If your an audiophile, invest in a more powerful and feature rich system. I would not recommend this at all. Poor quality sound. Up firing speaker does not have a standard front speaker also. Sounds tinny. You get what you pay for. Stick with their premium brand or any other mid range brand to avoid distortion. This should be 199 considering the sound and lack of features.

Device is a good value, however the sound is really annoying with the fake 'center'/height channel. If you do not constantly adjust it, you lose the commentary/center channel. Switching between sports and movies is awful, really highlights the flaw in this height/center channel. I could not stand the sound from this soundbar as it fatigued my ears.

Hello there, David. Thank you for sharing your experience with us regarding your S70TR soundbar system. We understand that it didn't meet your expectations for sound quality and that the setup was complicated. Your feedback is important, and we'd like to assist you further.
To optimize the sound quality, we recommend checking the placement of your soundbar and subwoofer. The soundbar should be centered directly below your TV, and the subwoofer often performs best in a corner or along a wall to enhance bass. Additionally, exploring the sound modes available on your soundbar, such as "Clear Voice Pro" for clearer dialogue, or adjusting individual channel volumes, might help tailor the audio to your preference. Ensuring the firmware is up to date can also help with performance.

If you like subwoofer bass, avoid this soundbar. Even at max settings, the subwoofer performance is lukewarm. I was not expecting it to compete with my Sonos Arc system. However, my Vizio M51ax-J6 has a far better subwoofer performance; This LG system should at least be on par with that and maybe slightly better. For $400, this is unacceptable. Hi, James. Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We understand that you were expecting the LG Soundbar (S70TR) model to be fully wireless. You're correct that the S70TR is designed with wireless connectivity between the base unit and the woofer for a cleaner setup. However, the soundbar itself still requires a wired connection to your TV or other devices, which may be causing some confusion.
If you're looking to simplify the setup even further, you could consider using a Bluetooth connection, if your TV supports it, to avoid additional cables. Alternatively, if you're experiencing any issues with the wired connection or setup, we're here to assist you further.

Hi, David. Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We totally get how important it is for your LG Soundbar (S70TR) to deliver that rich and balanced bass performance.
If you're finding the bass a bit weak, a simple tip is to switch the Sound Effect mode to either Bass Blast or Cinema using the remote. Those modes really amp up the low-frequency output. Also, placing the soundbar at ear level and making sure it's not blocked by any furniture can definitely help with the bass response. Volume is nice, but bass from the subwoofer is almost non-existent. For a $400 soundbar, I expected much better. My old Vizio soundbar from 7+ years ago sounds better than this.

Hi, Aaron. Thank you for sharing your feedback on the LG Soundbar (S70TR) model. We understand how disappointing it can be when the subwoofer doesn't meet your expectations, especially with a higher-end model. We strive to provide high-quality products that exceed our customer's needs. Here are a few steps to enhance the bass performance of your soundbar: Check the soundbar's audio settings and increase the bass level. Place the subwoofer in different locations within the room to find the best position for optimal bass response. This has a high end tinny sound that isn't fixable. Would not recommend.

Hi, Kathleen. Thank you for your feedback on the LG Soundbar (S70TR). We recognize the importance of sound quality. If you're facing a high-pitched audio issue, try these adjustments: Change to “Cinema” or “Bass Blast” mode for better sound, and use the LG Sound Bar app to tweak the equalizer by increasing bass and lowering treble. Also, check your audio source, as issues might arise from the connected device or streaming quality. For more tips, visit: https://www.lg.com/us/support/product/lg-S70TR.AUSALLK. If you need further help, email us at lgdigitalcare@lg.sprinklrsupport.com. It has wires between the 2 channel small speaker. I had requested NO WIRES… so I called & ordered up the Hisense which has no wires!

Hi Bennett.
Thank you for your feedback. We understand that having wires between the rear speakers was not what you expected. The LG S70TR Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer and Rear Speakers is designed to provide high-quality audio, but the rear speakers do have a wired connection.
For a completely wireless experience, you might consider exploring other models or brands that offer fully wireless rear speakers. If you have any questions about our products or need assistance with setup, please send us a private message on our social media platform via @LGUSSupport. Our team is here to help ensure you find the best audio solution for your needs.
We appreciate your input and are here to assist you. ^Sam
