The Logitech G513 Lightsync RGB Carbon Keyboard with GX Brown (Tactile) switches is a recent update to Logitech’s G513 featuring the older Romer G switches. The keyboard is a 10-key layout with no additional macro-specific keys. It features a detached palm rest, a aluminum top frame, RGB lighting, and pass-through USB 2.0. New Switches! The new GX switches are a departure from the old Romer G’s. First thing you might notice is the position of the letters on the keys. On the new G513 the letters are positioned higher on the key vs. the outgoing model that had the letters centered in the key. This is due to the GX keys not aligning the LED with the center of the switch – its justified above. This has no real bearing – to me anyways – but this does help you identify which version of the keyboard you are looking at. The GX Brown is the replacement for the Romer G Tactile. The naming of the new switch invokes the naming scheme of Cherry – the biggest name in mechanical keyboard switches. The move is halfway significant just based on the specs of the switch. The outgoing Romer G’s had a 45 cN actuation force, 1.5mm actuation distance, and 3.2mm of total travel. All together this was a light, and shallow switch that sat somewhere between the mechanical and membrane style keyboard switches. The new GX Brown has a 50 cN actuation force, 2mm actuation distance, and 4mm of total key travel. For comparison the Cherry MX Browns have a 55 cN actuation force (where you feel the bump), a 2mm actuation distance, and 4mm of key travel. By the specs alone the GX Brown is nearly identical to the MX Brown, only with a bit lighter actuation. For me the outgoing Romer G Tactile switches always felt too shallow, and a bit on the mushy side. I’ve used Logitech membrane boards for over a decade (I daily the MK710 kit at work), and used a GSkill Ripjaws KM 780 with MX Browns at home. I tried out a Romer G board (may have even been the old 513) and I just didn’t care for the way the keys felt. I realize now what the problem was – too soft, too shallow, and a squishy tactile feedback that was reminiscent of a membrane board. That’s why I opted for the KM780 at the time – it just felt better. The new GX switches are a definite improvement over the Romer G’s. They are softer on the actuation force, which has taken a bit to get used to coming from the MX’s, but overall the feeling is great. It’s a hard toss up between the GX’s and the MX’s for me, so now its down to design/other features. Design As I mentioned before the layout is a 10-key with no additional macro buttons. Macro buttons can be assigned via the Logitech G Hub software to F1-F4. F5-F12 (and PRTSC, SCRLK, and PAUSE) are all dual function keys that can be toggled while holding down the FN key. Likewise, you can also invert the toggle of the keys in the G Hub software. The top layer of the board is made of 0.059” (1.5mm) thick aluminum and is finished in a dark grey (maybe anodized). This gives the board a clean and sturdy build quality that is befitting of a board in this price range. The keys are nicely spaced and have a classic layout. Overall the design is clean and compact without feeling crowded. The RGB on the switches is excellent. Default is a rainbow wave that rolls across the board. I have multiple Lightsync devices – G Pro Wireless Mouse, and Powerplay mousepad that I can sync my lighting with. For now, I’m enjoying the wave, but I ‘ll probably since them up. I know RGB is in everything these days and is often too much. However, I love it in my keyboards because I need backlit keys and I hate to look at solid color backlights. The USB passthrough on the board is perfect for non-storage related peripherals since its stuck at 2.0 speeds. It can charge devices as well, but again limited to the power delivery of 2.0. What I believe Logitech intended this port to be used with is a USB headset or wired mouse. Mouse is straightforward, but the headset usage gets a couple other design features to utilize. The palmrest and underside of the keyboard have a slot passing straight up to allow a cord to go underneath the keyboard. Next to this channel is a small U-shaped channel that you run into before getting to the USB port. This works as a little strain-relief section and takes the strain off both the port and your cable connector. It’s a nice design consideration. Along with the keyboard and palmrest, a collection of keycaps and keycap puller are included. The extra keys feature an angled concave surface as compared to the standard smooth concave keys. These keys are directed towards the gaming crowd that might want a different feel for some of their keys. The extra keys are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Q, W, E, R, A, S, D. The keys on the board are easy to remove with the puller and the new keys slide on fairly easily. The first time they require a bit more force to fit onto the switch, but they loosen up a bit after a time or 2. Also there is one feature of the board that seems to have no function. There’s a small (1/4-20 threaded?) hole along the top edge of the board. You can’t see it while using the board, but its just over the back edge between the F8 and F9 keys. I did some digging and apparently that was for Logitech’s Bridge SDK platform that never came to market. This is the general assumption from the keyboard community, and without an official response from Logitech to be found that’s what I’m going with. Small Gripes I only had a few small issues with the board. First is the location of the media buttons. I adjust the volume up and down all the time, and I routinely need to use function keys for my work. So, no matter how I set the FN key mode (normal or inverse) I still will need to hit the FN + “X” combos unless I assign custom functions to all the keys through the G Hub software. It works fine, but just seems like a lot of extra hoops. I wish there was a way to couple the palm rest to the keyboard body. Rubber padded feet work great on keeping keyboards in place until the get dusty. I don’t want my keyboard and palm rest floating away from each other in the middle of things. I’ll figure out something – maybe a deskmat will be effective. Overall The updated G513 is a real winner design-wise. The new GX switches are a large improvement over the Romers and put it on even footing with the MX’s. The look/feel of this keyboard is certainly top-notch. The palmrest is comforting to use for long periods of time, and good key spacing keeps down any awkward reaches. I do miss having dedication volume control buttons, but that’s not the end of the world, just something to get used to.

I have always enjoyed using my friends mechanical keyboards but had not gotten my own until this G513. I’m so glad I finally chose to upgrade. I do a lot of typing, a decent amount of gaming and an excessive amount of video and photography editing and I have only had this keyboard for a few days but I can already say it’s definitely going to help me with all of those things. The switches - I really like that this keyboard responds well to my touch and when I am typing for extended periods of time, (like right now!) my fingers don’t get as tired and my keystrokes seem to be more accurate and smooth. You don’t have to understand HOW they work to enjoy the benefits. If you’re into knowing what type of switch it is or want to debate for hours about which one is better, that’s cool, but personally I don’t bother to get into all of those details. For those that do, the keyboard I got came with Romer G tactile switches. They have a good “bump” when I push them and respond well. I believe this keyboard has the option to get other switches as well if you know what you prefer. When gaming, I have always enjoyed a good mechanical keyboard over others. This keyboard is no exception, I felt like every press was doing exactly what I want, how I want, when I want. G Hub - The keyboard really shines when you download the free software, G hub, from Logitech and start to customize your gear. I haven’t had nearly enough time to fully dive into all this program can do, but from playing around with it some so far I was able to quickly set up lighting layouts for games, editing software, and desktop use. The software will detect games or you can add manually games and applications and then you can adjust what the keyboard lights and buttons do for that specific app or game. The nice part is when you open that program, the keyboard automatically switches to that layout. You don’t have to go in and change it every time you are in a different program or game. So, like I said, I do play a decent amount of games, but I do a lot of work with editing software. Editing has a lot of hotkeys and shortcuts, with this keyboard I can customize the colors of the keys to reflect those uses. I change my navigation buttons, my favorite hot keys and a few others to colors that stand out and I can even set macros or commands to the F keys to replace complicated multi button sequences to one keystroke. It’s extremely handy. And if I’m going back and forth between, say Photoshop and lightroom, the keyboard will change instantly as I switch programs. That’s obviously a great example of using the lighting as a tool, but there are also tons of options to use them as simply a visually pleasing setup. I have not messed with it myself yet but there seems to be a way to take almost complete creative control of the lighting in the animation tab and going to “custom animation”. There are a ton of custom settings and controls to make up whatever you want. Palm-rest - One other thing important to note is that this keyboard comes with a really nice memory foam palm-rest. It’s not like this is the palm-rest to defeat all palm-rests but it is a really nice and comfortable one. It’ll be interesting to see if it holds up to time but I don’t see any reason it won’t right now. It’s made well, just like the keyboard. Nothing that came in the box feels cheap or like it will break soon. I think it’s safe to say this keyboard will last me a very long time. Just a few last thoughts - This keyboard really only gets unique if you use the software that comes with it. Even if you don’t want to do major customization, it’s needed to set profiles and other options. Plus if you buy multiple Logitech gear items then you can use the software to control them all from one app. There’s no reason not to get the software, it’s free and small, but if you’re wanting to use this right out of the box, keep in mind a slight bit of setting up will be needed on your end. Also of note, it comes with a couple of commonly used button replacements which is really nice to have just in case. One thing on the con side for me personally is that the lights do not illuminate the secondary function of the keys. So for example, along the number row, the ! under the 1 is not visible in a dark room. Most of those keys are probably not a big deal because they are in your memory but where it does get annoying is in the FN keys. That is different on almost every keyboard. So now, for example, when I’m in a very low lit room editing, I can’t see which key is volume up/down/mute when holding the FN key. It would be nice if pressing shift or FN would switch all the lights to the key’s secondary options but it is not the case with this specific keyboard. If you’re going to be using it primarily in well lit rooms or you have a really good memory and don’t care about that, then you’re going to be very happy with this. If you’re like me, you will still like the keyboard a lot but will have to memorize where those keys are or have a light on (which defeats the purpose of a back-lit keyboard.) Really though, other than that one little picky detail, I haven’t noticed anything about this keyboard that I did not like or any problems with it. The pass through USB is handy too to drop a usb stick or mouse in and not have to fiddle around the PC looking for an available USB slot. Overall, I really like this keyboard and I think Logitech has made another reliable and useful product. I’m excited to continue to customize to my personal needs and get even more out of this keyboard.

Right out of the box, the G513 is impressive to look at. It has a beautiful dark, aluminum-magnesium brushed finish that feels cool to the touch. The keyboard is a bit on the heavy side being a little over 2 lbs. It has small edges around the key cluster, allowing Logitech to call it “minimalist”, even though this is still a full-size keyboard. It is very well built and it seems that it can stand a drop or two (hopefully not on your foot!). To ensure this does not happen, the keyboard has several rubber pads that help it stay firm. Underneath, there is some cable routing for wired headphones and such. It has a sturdy 6ft long dual-USB braided cable. This double-sided cable allows for a built-in USB passthrough on the keyboard’s upper side. While possibly convenient, sadly, this is a 2.0 USB -even when connected to a 3.1 USB output. The standard size keys are made of smooth plastic. They can be a bit slippery, however, they are spaced comfortably. Also, Logitech provided a set of 12 concave keycaps that can replace typical gaming keys such as the WASD as well as a keycap puller tool. This is very welcome as I have sometimes trouble to find these keys or tend to miss during intense gaming. Maybe this is just a pet-peeve, but I would’ve liked to have dedicated media and volume buttons or controls. Still, these can be found under the FN keys. The keys feature Logitech’s new Gromer G Linear Mechanical Switches (tactile and clicky are also available). Linear means that to register a press, the key must be pressed down completely. There is no “bump” to tell you when activated, which some may or may not like. I find these very similar to my other keyboard’s Cherry MX Red switches, which I like so much. I found that, while the travel is quite deep, keystrokes register fast and accurately -even when I am spamming keystrokes. As far as regular typing, gaming mechanical keyboards have never been ideal to me, and this is no exception (although slightly better than others). I must say that of all mechanical switches I have tried, these are the quietest. The G513 offers fully customizable RGB lighting. The illumination is very clear and vivid and does not “bleed” all over the chassis. The lights can be customized via “Lightsync” technology which enables games, music apps, etc. to control the effects. The keyboard can also be fully customized per-key via the Logitech G Hub App. I found it useful to light up my most used keys when gaming at night. Now, included is a wrist rest that I can argue is the best I’ve experienced in a long time. It is made of high-quality soft leatherette and memory foam. According to Logitech, it is sweat-water proof and easy to clean. While it is not attached to the keyboard (magnetically or otherwise), it stays in place because of the rubber feet underneath. I can honestly say that it is extremely comfortable and the perfect size allowing my palms to fully rest on top while typing. Is it worth the high price tag? That is a slightly tough question. To be honest, I'd give it a 4.5 if I could. While the G513 lacks dedicated macro or media keys, the RGB features are kind of gimmicky, and it is not the best for every-day typing, the G513’s design, quality, features, keycap options, feel, gaming performance and exceptional wrist rest makes it very worthy in my opinion.

Saw Logitech was coming out with a new G513 with GX switches instead of the Romer-G switches and wanted to try out the GX Brown tactile switches. Setting up: The keyboard as usual is very well packaged and protected. The keyboard has a nice heavy fabric sheathed cable and does have a dual USB end on it. One is for the keyboard and the other is for supporting full USB3 speeds with the port on the back of edge of the keyboard. You can use one USB connector but from what I can find on Logitech’s site if you want full speed to the accessory port then you have to plug both in. No problem as my systems all have plenty of USB ports and it’s convenient extending that USB port to your keyboard for plugging in things close by like your mouse. I already had the Logitech G-Hub installed on our systems as we already have the G910 and the G815 I’ll be comparing this one with. With G-Hub it’s pretty easy to set up the keyboard colors the way you like and you can configure them individually if you so wish. I usually just set mine to “Echo Press”, so that the keyboard is one color and when you press a key it changes colors then fades out back to the original. Been using this scheme for a while now and my preferred setup for these. Use: The GX brown switches are listed as tactical so I figured they wouldn’t be that loud, well they are pretty noisy, louder than either the G910 or the G815, the G815 being the quietest of the three and the G910 coming in second. The “tactical” feedback is pretty light and not very noticeable, but that’s probably a good thing as any more and the keypress would be stiffer. Of the three keyboards the G910 “for me” has the lightest keypress with its Romer G switches. And the G815 being close to the G513 but mushier feeling. The G815 doesn’t’ have the crisp feel and feedback of the G15 at all and the one I have has the GL “clicky” switches. Of the three I still like my old G910, “probably because I’m used to it and have been using it for a few years”. I do like the soft wrist rest that was included with the G513, there wasn’t one with the G815 and should have been especially for the price of that one. The G910 has a hard plastic one that has two different sizes included, I use the largest as the small one really doesn’t provide much of anything other than covering the funky plastic frame underneath. I can pretty much type on anything and have been using just about any make model type of keyboard going back to before the Commodore 64, “ugg that keyboard sucked”. My biggest complaint about the new G513 is the same as with the G815, the location of the fonts on the keys themselves. I’m used to having the font printed on the center of the key and not offset to the top. I do find myself hitting more than one key if I happen to glance down and center my fingers on what I expect to be the center of the key not the top of it. I’m also not fond of how the “!@#$%^&*()_+” symbols are not lit up like on the G910, same with the “:”|?><>” key fonts. And they reversed them on the key so if you are looking at a standard keyboard layout those keys have become the top and the ;’,./ are now on the bottom “non illuminated” and I really hate that. I am a skilled typist but on occasion I do have to glance down to check a key that I rarely use and it’s frustrating having to look hard to find it because it’s not illuminated. It would have helped if Logitech printed the non illuminated fonts in white instead of a grey color that is impossible to see if your desk happens to be in a darker room. Conclusion: Overall the new G815 is really nice to type on, my frustration with it is with how the fonts and illumination are used. My old G910 with its center lit keys and all lettering, numbering and symbols also being illuminated make it a better keyboard in my opinion and specific “likes/needs”. The keyboard itself feels like it’s built out of a solid piece of metal, there’s no flex to the base and it’s nice and slim, it takes up a lot less room over the G910 and the padded wrist rest is a really nice addition. There are no dedicated media keys, “not sure why they didn’t include these” but you can reverse the FN key so that the print scrn/scroll lock/pause keys become the mute/volume up/volume down. It’s a compromise that works but it would have been better adding media keys. My G910 has them and It’s really hard getting use to not having the volume scroll wheel. So if you want a keyboard that feels very sturdy, doesn’t take up a lot of room and is really nice to type on and can get by with the negatives I’ve posted above this may be the keyboard for you. I’m personally would rate this one as a 3.5 star but will give it a 4 based on quality and use, it’s just not what I prefer in a keyboard that I’m using most of the time.

Verdict: I love this keyboard! It looks amazing (aluminum alloy finish and the lighted keys), it types wonderfully (great feel and feedback), and it performs out of this world (programmable keys and speed). First impressions. The box was surprisingly heavy! They keyboard was well packed and looked impressive when opening the box. The contents of the box are the keyboard, the memory foam pad, extra keys, instructions, and a sticker. The keyboard itself is very heavy, giving the impression of top components. The memory foam pad is also a little heavy, adding to the weight of the overall system. My first impressions were very favorable. Design: Everything about this keyboard hints to quality. The brushed aluminum alloy is beautiful and will contribute to durability. The GX Brown Tactile keys type like a dream (subject to preference; there are three options). The connection cables are reinforced with braided fabric. Both the keyboard and the memory foam pad have anti-slip rubber feet. The memory foam pad is very comfy and adds a nice touch to the system. The RGB lighting color customization is epic, with easy to use software to manage. Typing. You really don’t know how good a keyboard can be until you have a good one. Typing feel, feedback, and comfort have never really been factors for me before. I previously bought cheap keyboards for home, and used whatever keyboard I got I work. But typing on an “elite” keyboard has highlighted what I was missing. It makes typing so much more enjoyable: the action of the keys is smooth with fantastic tactile and audible feedback. I feel like I type faster and with greater precision. Additionally, the lighted keys are incredible practical for typing in dim light. My biggest gripe with regular keyboard is not being able to see the keys in the dark when trying to find something specific, so the lighted keys are a really nice feature. Performance. The keys move fast and with little resistance. The keyboard performed well in first person shooter games. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Moreover, the keyboard software allows any user to setup macros or key customization for every game (and even every player in every game), which makes it a power multiplier for gamers. Things I love. - Lighted keys with millions of colors and endless customization… wow! - The lighted keys turn off when the screen saver comes on. - USB pass-through is really nice to plug a gaming mouse or to charge your phone. - The memory foam is not connected to the keyboard which means that you can reposition it where it is most comfortable for you. - Brilliant typing! Easy, fast, smooth, and accurate. - Fast and accurate performance will support any games you play. - Logitech software to customize every aspect of the keyboard. - Cable management slots under the keyboard… nice touch! Things I don’t love. - Dedicated programmable keys would have been nice, but using the function key to access the built-in media keys is fine. You can also reprogram the F keys to be dedicated media keys. - I would have preferred a wireless keyboard perhaps, but I am loving the convenience of physical connectors: I don’t have to worry about the keyboard running out of batteries, specially in the middle of a game! Additionally, the connection cable is very long so it should accommodate most setups. Overall, the Logitech G513 Lightsync RGB Mechanical Gaming keyboard is a phenomenal keyboard. The few things I didn’t love are easily remediated, or actually turned into strengths. I highly recommend this keyboard for gamers and other power users who want a great keyboard.

I got the brown key version, but that is a small detail. Let me tell you that from the time you lift the box, you realize you have a high quality keyboard. Open the box, and this is solidified. It weighs pounds, not ounces. And it is packaged like it is a $600 keyboard. Well protected, wrapped in plastic wrap, and a well presented item for eye candy. Not too much waste on the packaging either, no endless peanuts or foam bricks. Just well thought out in multiple ways. The keyboard has an aluminum plate that covers the top. The keys rise above the keyboard case, which I really like. There is backlighting for the keys, and you can download the add-on that lets you customize the colors. Otherwise they just blink in a rhythmic way. For the OCD types like me, this is cool, it's always changing! There is a USB pass through that lets you charge up a phone for example, which is nice for some computers that don't have a lot of USB ports. Or plug in a wired gaming mouse. In the box you will find some spare key caps, a tool to change them, AND a drop dead awesome wrist rest that is stand alone. It is heavy, and can be placed wherever you want. It is NOT mandatory to attach it to the keyboard (in fact you cannot do that anyway), but is a huge benefit because if you want to move it for your hand size or comfort position, you can. And both the keyboard and wrist rest stay in place once put down. Hooray! Tired of the cheap keyboards that move around all the time. This is pure design and build excellence. Okay, so how does it work. Simply amazing. It takes a bit to get used to if you are not a gaming computer keyboard user already, but once you get into it, you'll see why people spend money on a decent keyboard. This brown switch version gives you some clicky sound, but a tacticle feel and you can tell when the switch activates. I'm not as particular about the version as some others, I will just tell you that this is an amazing keyboard, worth every dollar, and will likely last you for quite some time vs. buying multiple cheaper models. Reminds me of a keyboard from the 1980's - heavy, high quality, and why they cost $600 back in the 80's, because they were as engineered as a computer was.

This keyboard is sure built to last! The G513 has such a solid build quality that you could use it to fight your way through a zombie horde (and then to write your traumatic survival story). The keys have a comfortable concave shape and the box even comes with 12 extra gaming keys (with a more extreme shape to hold your fingers in place). I don’t personally feel as though they gaming keys are a drastic improvement over the standard keys, but I appreciate that they provide a tactile difference that assists in getting my fingers back to the correct keys quickly. The illumination color of every individual key can be easily set - or you can use existing lighting templates from Logitech’s G Hub. And, though there are literally millions of color options, the subtle differences are actually noticeable. Note: The Logitec G Hub is not required to change the backlight colors. You can also use the FN+F5/F6/F7 keys. The 6 foot braided cable branches into two USB plugs. One for the keyboard and the 2nd to extend a USB port from your PC or Laptop over to the keyboard. The USB passthrough allows for both data & power connectivity (which comes in handy for cord management). The only downside is that the USB passthrough is only USB 2.0. What gives Logitech? Why no 3.0?! The package comes with a memory foam palmrest that has a low profile and a glossy finish that allows for easy cleaning. The palmrest does not attach to the keyboard and sadly I found that mine didn’t lie flat against my desk. At first this was quite annoying as it would audibly thump down on my desk when I would use my left hand. But, the palmrest quickly flattened out after about 10 minutes and I had no additional issues. Thankfully, the rubber feet also do a great job at ensuring that the keyboard and palmrest stay perfectly in place. The keyboard does not have physical knobs or extra buttons for media controls, or for volume, but you can control them using the following keys: Media Controls: FN+F9/F10/F11/F12 Volume Controls: FN+ PRTSC/SCRLK/PAUSE The G513 does provide the option of various mechanical switches. I personally enjoy being able to feel the tactile click of the Brown switches (without the noise produced by Blue switches). My previous keyboard has Blue switches which are rather loud and I find that they become annoying to others (both in the room and those who can hear over my headset). I strongly suggest researching the various switch / key types before making your selection. What set the G513 apart for me, is the build quality and the better than normal 1 MS response rate. I only wish that this keyboard had USB 3.0 for the USB passthrough. Oh, and a 3.5mm headphone jack would be useful for some.

I know, I know...it's a gaming keyboard. For those of you who want a gaming review...keep scrolling. I'm on my computer for work about 5-6 hours on average each day, and silly me, I've continued to use the magic keyboard that came with my iMac. The first thing I missed was the 10-Key when using excel, but I also missed the click and key travel of more traditional keyboards, so I set out to find a solution. Aesthetics were important to me. I didn't want anything grey or beige. Black or white were the only acceptable colors. I also wanted to find something with backlit keys. This is something that a lot of keyboards don't have, but I'm used the them when I'm using my MacBook and my office doesn't always get the best light. The G513 fit all my needs and then some. The backlight is customizable so I can have my number keys a different color than my regular keys - which makes it a little easier to differentiate. The size is perfect. It's about as small footprint wise as you can get without impacting the key layout. The sleek black design with brushed stainless appearance felt premium and didn't diminish from my iMac setup. Key travel is pretty amazing. It's so soothing to hear the rhythmic tapping of a real mechanical keyboard. I found myself back in elementary school learning how to properly arch your fingers when typing...a habit I had gotten quite lazy at. The only real complaint I has was the G-Hub software is buggy like mad. It took me three installs before I was able to control anything. I also hated the fact that I had to give so many permissions to my keyboard. I guess if I was trying to capture my latest frag on Fortnite I might be interested in letting the keyboard capture my screen, but that's not me and the permissions were annoying. Overall I'm quite pleased with the G513 and while it's probably overkill for me I'd definitely recommend to my friends.

I like the keyboard. It has a good response. The brown switches have been great at giving a quiet, yet discernible resistance when I type. I wish the G513 had a volume slider that wasn't reliant on using a function key, but I like the response rate and the resistance of the keyboard. Switching keys out with the included tool is easy, and the extra USB port on the keyboard is convenient (assuming you still have a free USB port on the back of your computer...) I'm just going to say it: I hate G-Hub. G-Hub is the software that Logitech wants you to use to customize your keyboard's lights and macro keys. It's awful. Drop down menus would show multiple lighting options, but most would not work. I would click, but the lighting selection would not switch over. Using a Logitech G-603 mouse, G-Hub reconfigured all settings from Logitech Gaming Software and I had problems with my mouse's DPI randomly switching when it should have been locked. My Caps-Lock and G-Shift lights never worked while G-Hub was operating. The entire program is awful. Maybe I'm having more problems because this computer had been using Logitech Gamer Software and not G-Hub, but they both have the Logitech name. Logitech, please patch your software. I had this problem on a desktop computer and a laptop. The Logitech software recognizes when I start a game, but I didn't see any change in the lighting profiles custom to the game I was playing. I'm not sure if that's another feature that is just not working yet or what. While I hate G-Hub, I did find a work around. if I re-download and install the older Logitech Gaming Software (circa 2018). the software that G-Hub replaced, the keyboard works fine. The interface isn't as polished and everything feels a bit dated, but it's all there and works. But again, I like the keyboard. Typing works great. G-Hub was awful, but I did love turning on the audio visualizer (it exists in Logitech Gaming Software as a separate APP) and listening to Spotify. I'm recommending the keyboard, but the software is awful.

The Logitech G513 Gaming Keyboard is full of features in a modern, sleek form-factor. The keyboard comes with tactile, linear, or clicky switches. Have tried all the different keyboard switches and recommend the tactile switches for gaming. It feels very sturdy with an aircraft-grade aluminum case. A favorite feature of the keyboard is the detached memory foam palm rest. Another big plus is the keyboard’s weight, it is sturdy and will not be slip-sliding around the deck in the heat of the battle. G513 feels very premium and substantial. Hands feel especially comfortable, even in prolonged gaming sessions. The possibilities are limitless with the Logitech GHUB software and the RGB with LIGHTSYNC Technology. LIGHTSYNC allows game-driven lighting effects and full spectrum per-key lighting control. One wish list item; Would be fun if it worked with ROG Aura. Another nice touch are the included gaming keys. They have raised edges which cup your finger in the keys to prevent slippage. The keys are very ergonomic and comfortable. Would have given five stars but there are a few minor drawbacks. First, there is no num lock light, even though there is a gaming mode and CAPS light, might be a nice touch if you could light up the Logo. Another, slightly less issue is the integrated USB port is 2.0 – USB 3.0 would be welcomed. Overall, the 513 is an exceptionally well-rounded gaming keyboard with brilliant features Designed for the Win!

The keyboard is very responsive and the quality and feel is amazing. It genuinely feels like a $200+ keyboard. It has a nice brushed aluminum look, the included wrist pad helps relieve wrist pain. The wrist pad itself has a nice look to it, perfect match for the keyboard. Pro's the RGB is very bright with clean colors Keys are spaced nicely out for those with bigger hands brushed aluminum look give it a classy look Logitech software lets you customize buttons and colors USB power pass thru, don't use it much but it's nice. BIGGEST PRO THE CLICKETY CLAK OF THE KEYBOARD, THE RESPONSIVENESS, KEY TRAVEL, SPRINBACK ACTION MAKE THIS A DREAM TO USE! THE SOUND IS SIMPLY SATISFYING AS IS THE FEEL OF EVERY KEY PRESS! CON There are no multimedia keys BUT the Logitech software allows you to customize the keys and fix that issue. I was able to program the F1-F3 keys and have them function as the volume buttons/mute. It takes a little getting used to but it works like a charm. OVERALL this is a beautiful keyboard with the performance matching the appearance. Definitely a must buy!

The Logitech G513, It’s a pretty good keyboard. A bit jaded on this one. The key’s, GX Brown are responsive, but in my time with this keyboard they kind of feel a bit mushy, almost as though it’s not a true mechanical but instead a membrane. It could be that I’m not used to the Brown’s. I did have another brand based around Kalih’s that was a Mac keyboard. They’re surprisingly a bit loud which I wouldn’t have expected given browns are supposed to be some of the lower noise switches. The RGB on the keyboard is good. At it’s brightest which is in my photos don’t seem all that bright. They’re quite responsive with the color changes and the effects are cool. I am a bit sad that since the first version of GHub I used when I got my other keyboard, the G813 had a ton of different effects but now there’s like 10 in total, before there was around 25 or so. I can say I certainly prefer my G813. I’ve grown accustomed to the shallower key caps. The full size key caps aren’t bad, but I don’t like the taller keys as much anymore. I like the USB Passthrough and especially the wrist rest. The wrist rest is very comfortable and has a heft and quality feel to it. I don’t expect it to wear down any time soon. I hope they offer it separately as I’d be very interested in buy one, or even a couple for home and work. One thing I miss is the separate media keys. Instead they’re integrated in to the FN key’s. The only big con I can think of is the price. If I had to choose between the 813 and 513, I’d spend the extra money and go with the 813. I think the 513 is bit overpriced as it’s not offering a lot over other models in Logitech’s line. I could see these new for around $99 but that’s just my opinion.

I recently switched from a generic membrane keyboard to this Logitech for gaming on my PC and I'm in love! Membrane keyboards like the one I had been using are mushy and quiet. When it comes to gaming, you want something that is deliberate and punchy. That’s exactly what you get with this keyboard and its brown switches. For those that may not know, there are three types of mechanical keys. Brown keys have a bump in the keystroke for an extremely tactile experience, red keys tend to be the easiest to press and are smoother and quieter, while blues tend to be the loudest and produce more of a clack. In the box, you will find the keyboard itself, key cap puller, some extra keys, palm rest, and the owner’s manual. When you plug the keyboard in for the first time, know that you will need two open USB-A ports if you want to use both the keyboard and the USB pass-through for other devices. There is no special setup required, but if you download G HUB, you can completely customize every key on this keyboard and even sync colors with other Logitech accessories. There are dedicated keys for volume control and music/ video playback. Height is also adjustable and there is a full sized numeric keypad on the right. Build quality is excellent as it's made of an aluminum alloy and I love the aesthetic of an all black keyboard and palm rest. If you’re in the market for a really nice mechanical keyboard, look no further!

This is probably hands down the best gaming keyboard I have ever owned. This keyboard just feels solid and the aluminum body of the keyboard looks amazing. The keystroke feedback and the response time is also very nice. The ability to customize the keys and the backlight just make it perfect. It does come with extra key just in case you wear some out. The keyboard also has a built in usb port in case you need to plug something in or charge your phone. Definitely a best buy.

I mainly use Corsair or Logitech for my keyboards. This G513 does not disappoint at all. When unpacking this board from the box, the 1st thing I noticed was WOW, this thing is HEAVY. Not in a bad way at all, just goes to show you the build quality is superb. You can literally use this as a baseball bat, though I would not recommend unless someone was breaking into your place. The dark brushed aluminium looks so good. Though there is other options to choose from (Cherry Blue or Red) I prefer BROWN for the tactile feel. Blue is too clicky for my tastes and red is hyper sensitive. The key strokes feel nice while typing but have an obvious audible sound that is what some might consider loud. Trust me, as a gamer you will have headphones on anyways and can't hear it. Logitech's app, the G Hub provides you with all you need for your Logitech peripherals. Though 1st timers might find the suite a little intimidating, it is fairly easy to learn. You can program a multitude of colors and effects you want to show off your RGB superiority. I myself just prefer the static Blue as it's my favorite color. One thing I did find in the color options was to have whatever key you press light up and found that entertaining in the dark while playing CoD and GTFO (fun game, highly recommend). Though this would just light up WASD 99% of the time lol. Being a miminalistic style keyboard, it doesn't have anything except what you need to pwn while gaming. Some might complain because they want a media section, but just use the FN Key + F9-Pause. I do not like using wrist rests but the one included is really (and I mean REALLY) nice. It's like a memory gel type feel and really great build to it. Logitech also included a Key Cap Puller and extra QWERASD12345 keys for you because they are just that awesome. Btw, when gaming, turn on Game Mode (FN + F8) to disable Windows button (and any other button you choose with G HUB) Above the G Logo on the top right is your extra USB 2.0 to plug in your phone to charge or what not. All in all, if you're on the fence on keyboard, I would recommend you go to a brick and mortar if you are near one and TRY all the different cherry switches out there. Find the one you like the most and get it. But if your like me and prefer Brown, then I would give this my 2 thumbs way up.

THE BREAKDOWN: The packaging was very well done and protected. It came with the keyboard itself, gaming keycaps, keycap puller and the palm rest. The design and feel of the keyboard felt amazing to me. I loved how light it was compared with my older mechanical keyboard. The USB passthrough port was amazing. I can plug my mouse in to the keyboard or my phone, great feature. The lighting was simple and fun to setup and use. The initial setup was easy, just plug and play but to get the lighting to work in a specific way you have to download the G-Hub software. The software was easy to find, download and install. I was really looking forward to a more quieter gaming keyboard as my current one is very loud and for that is great I love the feel of the keys clicking when depressed but, my wife finds this noise very annoying. So, this keyboard did not disappoint. The keys were very quiet, not totally quiet but quiet enough that it doesn’t disturb my wife. The keystrokes doesn’t seem to tire my fingers as I also used this keyboard while I worked. I am developer so I type a lot and found it to be very pleasing and easy to use. The added palm rest was just icing on the cake and kept my wrists and hands in a good comfortable position. One potentially negative this is there sometimes is a slight almost grinding noise and feel when depressing the keys. The G-hub software for the lighting features was intuitive and easy to use. I found myself engrossed in the different settings for almost an hour. I felt as if they worked as intended. I am a plain solid color kinda guy so for me the lighting was just ok. PRO’s: -Sleek and light -LIGHTSYNC technology -USB Passthrough -Smooth keystrokes CON’s: -There sometimes is a slight almost grinding noise when depressing the keys. SUMMARY: Overall, I feel that this product worked very well and I would recommend this to a friend if they are in the market for device like this.

Not a gamer, but am a software developer so I still need a good keyboard and gamers always have the best equipment, so when I need new gear, I go straight to the gaming section first. Enter this Logitech G513 Mechanical Keyboard. First impressions upon receiving and unboxing was that this is a high quality keyboard with good weight. No issues with this sliding around on you. And the aluminum top is much appreciated over the standard plastic everyone always uses. The RGB lighting is always cool and I love a colorful desktop. There is (I believe) logitech software to fully customize the keyboard and lighting effects and colors, but what's really nice is that you can easily change the effects without it. Just press FN + F5 to cycle through the effects. This is nice for me since I develop on linux and according to the download page only Windows and OSX are supported. The added palmrest is a nice bonus too, it's firm, but very comfortable. Another nice feature is the USB passthrough, it is a true passthrough though, and NOT an extra usb port. Meaning in order to use it, you'll need to plug in the 2nd usb at the end of the split cord. The benefit to this is you have an easily accessible usb port right in front of you on the keyboard instead of wherever your pc is. TIP: There is an embossed picture of either a keyboard or usb symbol on the plugs, which is helpful if you only want to plug in the keyboard and not use the passthrough. I didn't notice this at first and used 'trial and error' to find the right plug. But what about the actual purpose of a keyboard? Well, this definitely does the job. You get the tactile feel of the brown switch and typing is smooth. I probably average around 80 wpm, although in coding, there's a lot of words and names that I use so much that my speed can reach much higher at times. Even in those cases I haven't had any issues with missed or duplicated keystrokes and this keyboard can keep up perfectly. That said, brown switches aren't my favorite, but that's personal preference, as I know a lot of people that prefer brown over any other. Personally I like a more clicky switch. Speaking of clicky, this keyboard isn't that and not too loud, but if you haven't used a mechanical keyboard before, know that even the quietest mechanical will be louder than non-mechanical. The sound coming out of this is more of a hollow metal sound. CONS Although the aluminum case is really nice, the edges are SHARP. Normally you wouldn't be resting your wrists or hands on the edges, so it's usually not a problem, but it's something to be aware of. Palmrest doesn't attach to the keyboard in anyway. Another keyboard I use has magnets to keep the palmrest firmly in place with the keyboard, which would be nice here. This one does have rubber feet so I didn't really have any issues with it moving around, but sometimes I need to make minor adjustments to the positioning of the keyboard, which means I have to reposition the palmrest separately. Just a minor annoyance here though. Overall this is an excellent keyboard and if you like the feel of a brown switch, I'd have no problem recommending this one.

After my first 30 minutes with this keyboard, I noticed I had a goofy smile on my face because I was having so much fun playing with Logitech G Hub color changing options. I've decided on "Ripple" as my preferred effect for now - it looks a bit like an overdecorated house during Christmas, which I'm finding quite enjoyable. This particular keyboard is the Tactile mechanical switches model, which I chose over the Linear switches as it was described as being the better fit for both typing and gaming. Since I do a bit of both with my keyboard, I went with the Tactile model, and I'm very happy with the decision, though I don't have a linear style to definitively compare it to. The main selling point for choosing this model was that the key strokes register with a half press, which is what makes it more ideal for typing over the linear keyboard model which requires more of a full press. I've never had a mechanical keyboard prior to this one, and I'm a little concerned that typing on my laptop keyboard is going to feel "boring" after this. I'm really enjoying the "bounce" of the keys responding to each press, and the clickity clack while typing sort of creates a rhythm I am finding enjoyable. The only disappointing thing about this keybaord is that I'll only be able to use it at home, and I'll have to use my non-mechanical, more office-friendly quiet keyboard while I'm actually in the office. Logitech includes replacement caps for all the keys that get commonly worn out while gaming (the "asdqwer" keys), which was nice of them, though not strictly necessary as I'm probably going to misplace the replacement keys before they actually wear out. Nevertheless, I did find the keys are easily replaceable if that becomes necessary - they simply slide onto the key switch. While I didn't consider the palm rest when choosing this keyboard, Logitech includes a memory foam palm rest that is significantly more comfortable than other palm rests I have used, and it's a nice added bonus. I don't love that the keyboard's USB passthrough requires 2 USB connections to function, but perhaps that's a limitation of the techology. I'd love to see more devices adopt USB-C where things like daisy chaining devices would be possible. For now though, it makes sense for keyboards to use USB-A as it's a more universal standard. A minor gripe I have is the caps lock key doesn't light up the caps lock light when using some of the non-default lighting configurations, though that's more a software issue than anything and isn't a deal breaker by any means. Another nice thing I found is through the Logitech G Hub, users can share different lighting effects. I've included some photos of one of the custom effects that highlights the keys commonly used for gaming (WASD). Overall, I'm extremely happy with this keyboard and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Since receiving this keyboard, I have used it basically everyday for both work and gaming, and I honestly really enjoy it but there are a couple things I would like to point out. The key caps are a matte finish so the oil on your fingertips leave streaky smears that are a bit annoying even when your hands are clean. The biggest thing that drew me to this keyboard were the brown key switches. I currently have a keyboard with green switches which is honestly annoying when I'm trying to write a long program, essay, or do work that requires me to focus. While the G513 brown switches are not as quiet as a membrane keyboard, they are SIGNIFICANTLY quieter and smoother than the green switch keyboard I used for several years. The customization that is offered by this keyboard is amazing and the Logitech G HUB interface is really user friendly. I love the effects that are offered and even the static colors look vibrant. The biggest con for me is the lack of an audio jack, because now I do not have audio when I use my desktop. This feature is the biggest reason I put up with the headache of the loud clicky keyboard I own. Overall, this is a nice keyboard and I highly recommend it if you are okay with not having an audio jack. Extra keys for gaming like WASD and QWER are included and also a key cap remover which I was SO happy about!

If I ever had to be in a cage match and my only weapon had to be a keyboard, the Logitech - G513 GX would be my weapon of choice. It's built like a tank, the app is easy to navigate and the colors are super cool. However, I can't use it. This was my first foray into the world of gaming keyboards and I was super excited but after 3 weeks of use I'm putting it away. My Logitech K800 and other previous keyboard keys have been relatively flat but the G513 GX keys are raised about 3x as high and my fingers keep hitting between keys and causing no end of deleting and retyping. I guess after almost 30 years of keyboarding the old dog is having trouble learning new tricks. Keystrokes are also very much louder than I'm used to. My office is adjacent to my bedroom where my wife and usually 1 or 2 or sometimes all 3 of my kids end up sleeping. Most of my business computer work (and gaming:) is done after hours and the extra noise has gotten me in trouble at least 3 times around the midnight hour. The Logitech - G513 GX is solid, beautiful, capable and adaptable but it's just not for me.
