Therefore, the functionality will ultimately depend on the power source itself. It is designed to be used as an LCR(left/center/right) speaker. Would this work as a center channel for a 7.1 surround setup?

It can however be used as part of a 7.1 setup, but you would be better off using our standard SLM or SLM XL for your center as they will be able to give you better performance as a single channel.
