This radio is for one thing and one thing only....to alert you of emergencies...floods, storms, chemical spills, etc. It does this very well. The radio sets up quickly by hitting the menu key and then using the arrows to page thru the options...what kind of allerts do you want to be notified of (I picked all). When the national weather service sends out a warning you get a warning tone that could wake the dead and then the verbal warning....winter storm, tornadoe, etc. You can hit the paddle any time for weather forcasts also. The unit looks good, the sound is a bit like an old AM radio...you have six or seven channels to choose from and you pick the one that comes in the best...but if I had one improvement to suggest it would be a better speaker. For the price it is great.

After reviewing a number of WX band radios I purchased the Midland. The radio is easy to program for area and type of traffic. It is really loud but adjustable. I have not had any problems.

You can program this radio to your specific county so it's not going off non stop. We had originally purchased the solar, handcraft, rechargeable one with a flashlight, but you could not program it to just your county. This one is nice and loud!

Finally caved and bought a weather radio and this is a good one. Compact for space saving, signal reception is very good, and warning alarm is super loud.

This is the second one I have bought to replace one from several years ago. It is well-made, receives NOAA weather even without extending the antenna! The alert feature warns when there are weather issues in your area. This feature is enabled by selecting your state and county. Great buy!

I really like my weather radio we have had one for a number of years. Our last one we got after we had a fire in our house two years ago, It was working well but we had a bunch of new kittens and they began chewing on cords, after splicing the cord 3-4 times it was too short to splice any more and yet I could not keep batteries in it all the time. I tried to find a new cord for the old one and realized it was more cost effective to buy a new radio than cord which may or may not work. So now I have the new radio and it works quite well.

With weather patterns changing more and more each year we need a weather radios more than ever. Midland makes the best product after much research. There are other forms of these radios but desk product suits my needs the best. The ease of use is for anyone. GO on YOUTUBE if you have difficulty there are many helpful videos. You can choose your county and other surrounding counties so you get a heads up whats coming your direction.

This one replaced a very similar, older model, also by Midland, which had been knocked off the shelf one too many times. There are fancier weather alert radios out there, but this does all I need it to, I chose it over cheaper models because it has S.A.M.E., with which I can specify which county alerts we'll hear, thus saving alerts for counties that aren't likely to affect us. This newer model also allows choosing which kinds of alerts will sound, e.g. fire, avalanche, amber, blizzard, etc. I only wish there were alternatives to the loud siren, which startles me in a major way in daylight hours; but doubtless it will do the job in the middle of the night.

This is the second midland radio that I've purchased. The first one lasted many years before giving out. This one is very easy to set up, easier than the previous one. It basically sits there quiet, barely noticeable, but It just gives a little extra comfort knowing you will get the audible alerts in case of oncoming bad weather and other emergencies.

Work's good we set up with no issues. The other early morning we had a big storm come through our town and this thing is loud woke us up. It let us know that there is a possible tornado in our area. Its a great item to have to be safe.

A very useful radio that will wake the dead when it goes off. Has been very useful more than I would like. Highly recommend to someone who lives where there is bad weather.

The reason it is the best is because you can program it by county which allows you to skip alarms that are not near you. It's a bit tricky to program but, once you're done it works like a charm. Alarm is loud and adjustable - works fine in a two story house if centrally located.

The Midland Weather Radio is a good product that is highly customizable to receive weather alerts for your area. I highly recommend this brand. My only issue is with the retailer Best Buy who did not properly disclose that they are not fulling the order but Midland a third party seller using the Best Buy website. If i had known that I would have just order directly from Midland the manufacturer instead of going thru a third party which can complicate getting any potential issues resolved.

Have one of these radios in my first floor office at home and it works great. Now I've bought a second one for my second floor. You can adjust volume and you specify what counties to be alerted to. You also select what types of warnings like tornado, hurricane and severe thunderstorm. Well worth the price.

Thought I had found a decent NWR product in the Midland 120EZ but it only took a couple of hours to be disappointed. This NOAA Weather Radio has the S.A.M.E. technology which should allow a user to program your county into the radio so you get only your county’s warning or watch alert from NOAA or an all-weather channel. So I followed the instructions in the manual to setup the Midland 120 and each time I punched the “menu” or “select” or any button at all there is an annoying beep. I saw a section that said you could turn OFF the beep sound - but IT DID NOT WORK so I continued to try to setup the radio with my county codes, listening to all those nagging ‘Beep-Beep-Beeps.” After 20 minutes or so of powering down, starting all over again, etc. the Midland locked up on the “Time” set mode - I could not get out of that, even after completely powering down, even removing the AAA’s. This radio is over-rated IMHO and I recommend you stay away from Midland products - I intend to.

The weather alert radio was very easy to program; set up was very easy and straightforward. However, with the backup battery installed, I had to walk the radio around the house until it picked up my local NOAA weather station. It does have a connection for an external antenna, but to me it seems unlikely that most folks would use such an item. Three days after setting up the radio, it received an alert and provided much needed extra time to prepare for coming strong thunderstorms and tornados.
