  • General
    • Brand: Nikon
    • Model Number: 26483
    • Product Name: Coolpix S7000 16.0-Megapixel Digital Camera
    • Color: Black
    • Digital Camera Type: Point and Shoot Cameras
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 4608 x 3456 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Low Light/High Sensitivity: true (High sensitivity digital imaging devices are designed to work in low light conditions to produce a high dynamic range image.)
    • Image File Format(s): JPEG (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: 1/1500 - 1 sec.; 1/4000 sec. (maximum speed during high-speed continuous shooting); 4 sec. (fireworks scene mode) (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Minimum Aperture: 6.5 (The smallest opening of a lens, typically expressed in f-numbers. The larger the number, the smaller the aperture and the less light that can enter the lens. A smaller aperture creates a larger depth of field, which keeps both foreground and background in focus.)
    • Maximum Aperture: 3.4 (The limit to how wide a lens can be open, typically expressed in f-numbers. The smaller the number, the larger the aperture and the more light that can enter the lens. A larger aperture creates a shallower depth of field, helpful for keeping subjects in focus and blurring background details.)
    • Brightness Control: true (Allows the camera to adjust the brightness of a captured image for optimal exposure.)
    • Burst Mode: true (Also referred to as continuous shooting. This feature captures multiple shots in rapid succession.)
    • Self Timer: true
    • Shooting Modes: Scene auto selector, special effects, smart portrait, auto, short movie mode (Exposure modes employed by the photographer to control the optimal aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and other settings for capturing specific subjects/scenes. Examples include Aperture-Priority, Macro, and Manual modes.)
    • Panorama Mode: true
    • Scene Modes: Beach, close-up, dusk/dawn, panorama and more (Exposure modes with predetermined optimal settings for capturing specific scenes. Examples include Landcape, Portrait, and Sports modes.)
    • White Balance Modes: Auto, daylight, incandescent, fluorescent, cloudy, flash, preset (Settings that calibrates how the color white is rendered in an image/video, reducing the appearance of unnatural contrasts caused by various light sources.)
  • Lens
    • Lens Mount Compatibility: Not Applicable
  • Flash
    • Flash Modes: Automatic (The flash feature emits light to increase the brightness of a subject in dimly lit environments. Common modes include Auto and Red-Eye Reduction.)
    • Integrated Flash: true
  • Display
    • Display Type: LCD
    • Screen Size: 3 inches (Size of the screen, measured diagonally from corner to corner.)
    • Screen Resolution: 460K (Screens come in a range of resolutions (measured in pixels, horizontal x vertical). The higher the resolution, the greater the picture quality.)
    • Viewfinder Type: Optical (A viewfinder is the part of a camera (or attachment) that allows you to see and focus a scene in frame. Optical viewfinders let you view the scene directly through the lens. Electronic viewfinders display the image on a screen in its approximate final form.)
    • Touch Screen: false (Touch-screen devices make navigating more intuitive. Using a touch-screen display, you can do things such as tap to select, hold and drag to move items, swipe to scroll, and pinch to zoom.)
    • Varying Angle Screen: false (The camera's screen can be flipped out and adjusted to rotate, tilt, and/or swivel.)

Q: Battery Charging

A: Battery can be charged when exhausted or when the yellow flashing light comes on, however charging a fully charged battery could cause damage to the battery. See the Reference Manual for more details.

Q: A senior (84 years) wants a camera that works only in "auto" (like a smart phone camera) Will this work that way or do you have something very simple

A: The COOLPIX S7000 is set for AUTO right out of the box. The user would have to go into the menus to change to another mode. In addition, the S7000 has various automatic Scene Modes, including an automatic scene mode where the camera recognizes the scene you are trying to photograph and automatically changes to the correct Scene Mode.

Q: Date printing on photo

A: The COOLPIX S7000 allows for either a just the date or both the date and the time stamp. It is the user's choice via a menu setting.

Q: Does this camera have an electronic viewfinder

A: No, you have to use the viewing screen on the back. However, that works very well in all of the light conditions that I have dealt with. My father-in-law prefers the larger image to squinting through a view finder, though I am a little more old school.

Q: Does image stabilization compensate for shaky hands of the photographer?

A: The camera worked wonderfully under all conditions, including shake hands! Also, when I subject was moving it captured it perfectly with no blurry image.

Q: How long can a video clip be?

A: Individual movie files cannot exceed 2GB or 29 minutes in length even when there is sufficient free space on the memory card for longer recording.

Q: I am having issues with the camera freezing up and does not respond to the on/off button. In order to close the lens I have to remove the battery. Replacing the battery does not help, I've tried. What do you suggest?

A: Take the memory card out of the Nikon COOLPIX s7000 and take images to see if the freezing issue stops. If it does try using another memory card in the camera. If the freezing issue continues please contact Nikon Support for further assistance.

Q: does this camera support smart phone remote and does it also control thetelephoto function. do these cameras ?

A: The Nikon COOLPIX S7000 has built-in WiFi which allows you to connect it to a compatible smart device. The Nikon WMU app has to be installed on your smart device before you can use the remote options. These options will allow you to use the camera to take images that transfer straight to the smart device or use the smart device to trigger the shutter on the camera. Images are then available as they are written on the memory card within the camera. Telephoto zoom can be controlled by using the W/T function button displayed on the bottom tray of the app when you are taking an image with the smart device.
