About This Item
This brand new 1/72 scale diecast model of the Northrop YF-23 Black Widow II Stealth Fighter Aircraft, serial number #87-0801, PAV-2, represents the 1990 United States Air Force prototype. Part of the "Air Power Series" by Hobby Master, the model features a detailed exterior, true-to-scale detail, an opening canopy, detachable ordnance loads, a pilot figure, and comes with a display stand. Crafted from diecast metal and plastic for durability and a realistic feel, it measures approximately 11.25 inches in length with a 7.25-inch wingspan. The YF-23 PAV-2, nicknamed the “Gray Ghost,” was developed for the U.S. Air Force’s Advanced Tactical Fighter competition and first flew in 1990, showcasing cutting-edge stealth technology, high-speed performance, and long-range air combat capabilities. With its diamond-shaped wings, V-tail configuration, and internal weapons bays, it could carry three AIM-120 AMRAAMs and two AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles while maintaining stealth. The prototype demonstrated supercruise capability and superior stealth characteristics compared to its competitor, the YF-22, influencing later aircraft designs such as the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II. Although it was never selected for production, PAV-2 remains a pivotal artifact in aviation history. This meticulously crafted model captures the futuristic lines, stealthy elegance, detailed paneling, and accurate markings of one of the most advanced fighter prototypes ever built, making it a centerpiece for collectors and aviation enthusiasts.
