It could only happen in Detroit. It was in the ashes of this Detroit that Tribe Records was born - a community-driven where artists took control of releasing their own music. Two original founding members, saxophonist Wendell Harrison and trombonist Phil Ranelin, are still active in the Detroit jazz community and act as global ambassadors for Tribe's legacy. In the years that followed, the path blazed by Tribe became a model for generations of independent artists.
