The Valencia Lotus Tambourine is a 10-inch handheld percussion instrument designed in collaboration with percussionist and educator Layne Redmond for world percussion and traditional Middle Eastern musical applications. It features a pre-tuned Renaissance drumhead, an Acousticon shell, a molded internal handgrip, and five sets of heavy-gauge German silver jingles arranged in a traditional double-row configuration. The pre-tuned drumhead eliminates the need for routine tuning adjustments and serves as the primary playing surface for striking, tapping, and rhythmic articulation. The molded internal handgrip supports instrument control during performance, while the lightweight construction and traditional round format make the tambourine suitable for music education, cultural music studies, rehearsals, ensemble participation, and live performance activities.
Created in collaboration with percussionist and educator Layne Redmond, the Valencia Lotus Tambourine incorporates design elements intended for traditional tambourine performance and world percussion applications. This artist collaboration provides musicians, educators, and students with an instrument suitable for cultural music studies, ensemble participation, rehearsals, instructional programs, and live performance settings.
The pre-tuned Renaissance drumhead serves as the tambourine's primary playing surface and eliminates the need for routine head tuning adjustments. This design keeps the instrument ready for rehearsals, classroom instruction, practice sessions, and performances while supporting common techniques such as striking, tapping, rhythmic articulation, and accompaniment patterns used in percussion-focused musical activities.
Equipped with five sets of heavy-gauge German silver jingles arranged in a traditional double-row configuration, the tambourine supports a variety of rhythm-based playing techniques. The integrated jingle system accommodates shaking, striking, tapping, and accent patterns commonly used in world percussion, ensemble performances, music education programs, rehearsals, and cultural music applications.
The integrated molded internal handgrip provides a dedicated holding area that supports instrument control during practice, instruction, rehearsals, and performances. This design helps players maintain a secure grip while performing traditional tambourine techniques, making the instrument suitable for extended participation in educational programs, recreational music activities, and live performance environments.
The Acousticon shell supports the mounted Renaissance drumhead and integrated jingle system within a traditional round design. Combined with its Aqua wood-stained finish, this construction creates a handheld percussion instrument suitable for traditional Middle Eastern musical applications, world percussion studies, ensemble participation, music education, rehearsals, and performance activities.
