Rhinestone - DVD

Like a cheerful harmony sung slightly off-key, this 1984 musical comedy pairs Dolly Parton's effortless warmth with Sylvester Stallone's granite-jawed earnestness for a culture-clash that knows it is silly and embraces it. Parton plays a savvy country singer who wagers she can remake a hard-boiled New York cabbie into a convincing Nashville crooner, sending the pair on a headlong journey south filled with character lessons, gentle satire, and toe-tapping songs. Directed by Bob Clark and featuring Richard Farnsworth, the film cheerfully insists that reinvention is possible if you're willing to laugh at yourself along the way.
