The light optic impact pattern inside the bowl increases the inner surface area, allowing Pinot Noir to open up faster and reveal its characteristic peatiness, plum, cherry, earth, and violet aromatics with greater clarity than a smooth-walled bowl achieves. The tulip-shaped bowl with a slightly flared lip highlights the grape's irresistible sweetness, perfectly balances its naturally high acidity, and gracefully de-emphasizes alcohol — creating what Riedel describes as a "perfect picture" of the wine. The bowl specifically supports the characteristic peatiness and plum-forward flavors that define great Pinot Noir, from compact fresh New World expressions to layered Old World Burgundy complexity.
