I bought the Pearl Roadshow drum set for my 12 year old who started playing percussion last year in the middle school band. He was very happy with this surprise Christmas present. I let him assemble the set all on his own and tune the drum heads and he did a great job. The color is absolutely stunning, by the way. Once he gets some lessons and learns how to really hit the drums, we will start replacing the cymbals and drum heads for better quality ones but these are great for a starter. The only issue I have is that the set was missing the tripod for the throne. I sent a message to Pear and they said they could not help me. I called Best Buy and after a very lengthy conversation and my rejection of having my 12 yr old dismantle the set, take it back to the store and order another set and have him spend another 2 hours assembling it (really, for one part??) I was told that Best Buy would contact their source and get me the missing part. I was to hear back in 24-48 hours. That was 12/26 and I haven't heard from anyone. You can't play the drums without a throne! I had to go and buy another throne elsewhere so this purchase didn't go to waste. Great drum set - not so great customer service.

I bought this kit to get back into acoustic drums...(I've had electronic kits for the last decade or so) I read many reviews about the roadshow series of drums and followed their lead: 1- Replace the beater drum heads immediately (toms, snare and kick). For this particular kit you might want to look into a riser plate for the bass drum too (it's only 18") Keep in mind the rack tom and floor tom are small so you are going to have a hard time getting a low end sound out of them. The biggest downside is the included cymbals. Budget to replace them. They are pretty bad brass cymbals. Not bad for a starter set, but you will grow to hate them quickly. Overall the bundled hardware is pretty darn good for the price. The picture I uploaded has many mods to the kit I mentioned before: new heads, bass drum riser, extended legs for the floor tom, an additional cymbal stand (as well as Wuhan Western Hand Hammered Cymbals) The double kick pedal is not included in the set either. If you are considering this kit, check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVbvlA9C08k The guy does a bunch of mods that might not be necessary depending on your situation, but some of them are almost mandatory.
