The hardware is very good, my wife's computer sped up substantially with the SSD. However the software made available with the drive is junk. I had to use 3rd party software to clone the HDD. The other app, which I have appropriately forgotten its name, was good for nothing and causing system problems, the solution, uninstalling the two pieces of junk.

I purchased a 500 GB and a 1 TB used the same line off the power supply, nothing. The 1 TB worked from the start. Try the 500 on a second computer nothing. Exchanged the bad on for another same story. Decided to give it on more try. The 3rd one worked the way I expected the first two should have.

Bought this hard drive on sale at BB to upgrade a current functioning SSD and planned on connecting it via a USB to SATA adapter that I have and have used successfully for this purpose in the past for cloning an image of the current drive including the OS and data. After researching when the drive was not recognized, I discovered that for some unknown and unexplained reason that these Samsung EVO SSD drives are not recognized via USB even when using Samgsung's Magician software. I returned to Best Buy for a refund and will use a different brand. My last SSD was a SanDisk and it was easily cloned with the old HDD OS via USB. I found this online: The Samsung Magician will not support the 860 EVO SSD, if it is connected via USB. Once the drive is installed and connected through the SATA port of your motherboard as designed, then the Samsung Magician will have full communication and give you all of the drives information and features.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re not fully satisfied with the performance of your 870 EVO SSD.
If you haven't done so already, you may want to use Samsung Magician to run Performance Optimization, ensure that your motherboard supports SATA III interface, check that all performance related settings are set correctly (cached enabled, AHCI enabled), and be sure you have the latest version of the driver.
