Smart People (MOD) (DVD Movie) [1979]

Driven by a clever script and fine performances, SMART PEOPLE is set in the land of academia, a place where both Lawrence and Vanessa have taken refuge and plunged themselves into as escape from the external world. In spite of their high IQs, both father and daughter are equally clueless when it comes to navigating relationships. This becomes obvious as Vanessa develops a line-blurring relationship with her uncle, and Lawrence stumbles in romancing his doctor. If Vanessa wants a shot at happiness and Lawrence wants to make things work in his love life, both will have to adopt new attitudes or risk further alienation. Starring Dennis Quaid, Sarah Jessica Parker, Ellen Page, and Thomas Hayden Church.

Director Jules Dassin (Night and the City) combines the best of film noir, crime caper and romance in this little gem starring Lucille Ball, John Hodiak and Lloyd Nolan. Ace Connors (Hodiak) is a con man on the run, chased by determined cop Bob Simms (Nolan) who is trying to convince Ace to turn in the bonds he has stolen in exchange for a reduced sentence. When Simms catches up with Connors, the con man talks him into taking a train ri

When Lawrence Wetherhold (Dennis Quaid) a widowed and self-absorbed professor falls for his attractive former student (Sarah Jessica Parker), his all-too-predictable life suddenly turns sunny-side up. That is until his freeloading brother (Thomas Haden Church) and his sharp-tongued overachieving daughter (Ellen Page) speak up, making "chaos" the word of the day. Delight in the clarity, comedy and conundrums of the lovable yet dysfunctional family in this lighthearted comedy.
