The Sonos ray is in my opinion the best, budget based soundbar. The sound quality improvement from the tv speakers is amazing, coupled with the voice enhancement features it is a great purchase. The only down side is the ray does not have EARC or HDMI inputs so you have to either use a IR tv remote or the app. The couple months I’be owned this it has not been a problem.

I believe the Sonos read is the great addition to the Sonos ecosystem only downside being the fact that they cheap out on the HDMI arc for some reason it only has optical, which is an outdated technology realistically still works great but the quality is going to be dampened and you cannot control it with your TV remote. You will have to control it all via the Sonos app, although I have no problem doing it and it’s definitely going to be kept still really unfortunate why they would decide To do that instead of a HDMI even if it was a $30 difference to put that in I would’ve paid more happily.

Excellent sound output for loud sections of tv and movies. With dialogue or quieter scenes, there is a lot of volume adjusting that has to occur, even with speech enhancer mode on. Overall sound quality is good once you can let the bar do its thing uninterrupted

Great product but horrible setup instructions. Delivers exceptional sound. Item should come with install instructions vs forcing us to scour YouTube and Google searches on how to install.

If i could give a half star i qould give this a 4.5. This is a really good starting sound bar with an easy to use app for connectivity and ease of use. The only downside to the sonos compared to the bose, in my opinion is it doesnt have the deep base like a bose. Otherwise i love this and do recommend it.

Does not have a hdmi capability. Would rather get the Sonos sound-bar that’s one step up from the ray if you need hdmi

I'm a huge fan of the Sonos multi-speaker ecosystem. I have eight Sonos speakers around my house, including the original Playbar soundbar on my main living room TV. Sonos speakers are known for their incredibly simple setup and ease-of-use, and the new Ray soundbar is no exception. It integrates perfectly with the rest of my Sonos speakers and sounds infinitely better than my bedroom TV's built-in speakers. However, the lack of an HDMI port on the Ray causes some frustrations that really should be a thing of the past in 2022. ===PROS=== - If you already own other Sonos products or have set up Sonos speakers in the past, then the Ray is incredibly easy to set up. The soundbar can only connect to your TV via an optical cable (included), so there's not much room for confusion. You may need to go into your TV's audio settings and change it to "optical out" like I did. After you've connected the Ray to your TV, you can add the Ray to the Sonos app and pair it with an existing Sonos system if you have one. - The Ray is the perfect size for bedrooms or smaller entertainment stands. It is just over 2.5 inches tall, so you will want to make sure that it won't block your TV screen. Compared to the Bose TV Speaker soundbar that I have in my other bedroom, the Sonos Ray doesn't feel quite as sleek or compact, though it still looks nice. - As expected, the audio quality of the Ray is lightyears ahead of my TV's built-in speakers. Dialogue is crisp and clear. Highs and bass are very rich. Nothing sounds overpowered or distorted. For smaller living rooms and bedrooms, the Sonos Ray delivers excellent sound for casual TV and movie watching. - There is minimal surround effect from this soundbar, but luckily you can pair it with two Sonos One speakers to achieve a true surround sound effect. - The Sonos ecosystem opens up the Ray to a vast library of music content from all major streaming providers. And music from the Ray sounds just as good (or maybe even better than) my smaller Sonos One speakers. The Ray also supports AirPlay 2 so you can easily beam music from your iPhone or iPad to the soundbar. ===CONS=== - The omission of an HDMI port is very disappointing, especially in this price range. I've seen soundbars that cost less than $100 with HDMI ports included. So the decision to not include one here is very perplexing and leads to some inconveniences as noted below. - The volume can only be controlled using infrared (IR) remote controls or via the Sonos app. If your TV or preferred remote control uses radio frequency (RF), it's not going to work with the Ray, and you'll be stuck using the app to control your soundbar's volume. - Sonos also markets the Ray as a "gaming speaker," but not many gaming monitors or computers have optical outputs that will work with the Ray. Most modern game consoles also do not have optical ports. - There is no apparent way to tell what volume level the soundbar is at. The light on the soundbar blinks when you adjust volume, but there's no way of knowing how many levels of adjustment there are or how far you are from max volume. - The status light is front and center above the Sonos logo, which can be distracting when watching TV in a dark room. Luckily, you can turn off the light via the Sonos app. ===OVERALL=== Despite the head-scratching decision to forego an HDMI port, the Sonos Ray is an excellent entry-level soundbar that will delight new and existing Sonos users alike. It has the signature sound quality and multi-room features that have become synonymous with the Sonos brand. The Ray soundbar in particular will open up the Sonos ecosystem to many more people who couldn't justify the pricier Beam and Arc soundbars. Recommended!

Thank you for your review and we are thrilled you enjoy Ray's form factor and sound quality. Ray is designed for smaller TV rooms and for secondary TVs in a bedroom or office. Optical really shines in these situations because it's nearly ubiquitous on all TVs in the past 15 years, and it's fairly plug-and-play. Given its use of Optical, Ray can use any IR remote to control the soundbar's volume, which covers cable boxes, streaming device remotes, and most TVs. If a TV remote outputs RF or Bluetooth, some manufactures offer the ability to turn on IR functionality within the TV settings. Thank you again for your review and we hope you continue to enjoy your Ray.

Really good soundbar for your average living room TV setup. Love the quality of the sound and the small design. If I could change one thing, I’d add an HDMI (ARC) port in the back so I can control the volume with my TV remote.

Love Sonos! Great design, even better sound. Using in the bedroom, perfect size! Go bigger for the living room or basement theater! I also own other Sonos products! Had trouble syncing the remote with my tv, not all compatable, had no trouble with my other device, all tv's must not be compatable

Great simple sound bar, packs a punch for the price and size. Easy to set up. The only annoying thing is that the volume can't be adjusted by your Apple TV, so you are back to using remotes. Quite a small issue, but worth noting.

Kind of no frills but I think that’s reflected in the price. So what’s “missing”? No HDMI input, optical only, but that suits my use case. No voice assistant, no microphone…that’s ok I use Alexa and she’s already in the room. No visual feedback for volume level…again no HDMI so I get it. It’s S2 only, oh lord how I tried, so be warned but it sounds awesome and suits our needs.

Good sound for the price considering it’s a Sonos. Would’ve kept it, but it won’t control the volume on your tv through an infrared remote. There is a remote that specifically controls it (Sold Separately), but two remotes for one TV doesn’t suit me. But you can control it through the awesome App.

The quality of the Ray Soundbar is wonderful, however, it does not come with a remote, and only communicates with IR remotes. The new tv I purchased the soundbar for doesn't have an IR remote, so I have to use an app on my phone to control it. It also only has an optical connection, not a HDMI, which doesn't support Dolby Atmos, which is also on my new tv. I should have done my research, but took the suggestion of my salesperson. I will be using it on another tv in my house as I missed the return window. Great product, just not able to use it the way I planned.

I recently had to replace all my stuff and I desperately needed sound for my computer. My previous speakers were a 2.1 logitech system but this time I wanted to try out a sound bar and I was kind of intrigued by the Sonos brand so I decided to try this one out. The overall sound coming out of this speaker is very decent for the size. I have it sitting under my monitors. I use them as the main sound output for my gaming computer. They sound great but somewhat hollow. What it really lacks is in the highs. Bass is decent but not room shaking. I do not have the optional subwoofer but plan to get one in the future. For movies the speaker provides a very good experience. Music is decent but I think the models higher up will be better if you can afford it but that's a significant jump in price. My unit was a open box item and overall I'm very satisfied. The Sonos app is cool but I really never use it with my phone. It's connected via optical audio to my computer. If you can find this speaker open box I deffinitely recommend it or if you can find the Beam which is the next model up in open box it's not much more than a new Ray model.

The sound is very good. Easy setup and integration with Apple Music. I received this a day before my tv and couldn’t wait to get everything connected. It connected well through the optic connection and sounds great. BUT IT DOESN'T WORK WITH MY REMOTE!!! I don’t have a IR remote. Won’t work. I grabbed a old IR remote and that controls the volume. So I’m back to the two remote challenge. I’ll put up with it because I love how it sounds.
