Great look. Great build. Great sound (in the store). Unfortunately when I bought the Bravia 8 it would not complete the installation in the app. Keep in mind that the only way to use this system is with the app. I called in for support and was told to go to the store and swap the unit out. I went to the store and they didn’t have another 8 in stock so I paid the difference for a 9 that was in stock. I took it home, set it up, and launched the app only to run into the same problem. It would not complete the connection. After hours of restarting my router, my modem, my phone with no success I decided that the Sony Bravia 8 or 9 was not for me. I returned the 9 and the subwoofer and went for a Sonos Arc Ultra system. I went home, set it up, launched the app and completed the installation and now have an amazing system that brings movies to life. This is not meant to slam Sony but the app needs help..obviously. Also I want to mention that Cole who works in the Independence Blvd store was great to work with. Go see him if you are in the market for a home theater system.

[Employee of bestbuy] I purchased this soundbar as an "upgrade" from my previous Sony soundbar but it didn't turn out the way I hoped. The Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 9 requires the Sony BRAVIA Connect app. The soundbar sounded amazing the first night after the initial setup. The 2nd time using the soundbar was when I noticed how terrible it is. After turning on a movie, no sound was coming out of the soundbar. The BRAVIA Connect app needs to be turned on when you watch anything. I turned on the app but no sound was coming out still so I turned off the soundbar on the app and turned it back on which caused it to work again. The app will say "Dolby Audio 5.1 ch" when a movie is playing and "Dolby Audio 2.0 ch" on YouTube. The 3rd time using the soundbar, I encountered the same issue again. Turning the soundbar on and off like I did the time before did not work this time. I assumed that I had a malfunctioning piece of hardware so I exchanged the soundbar. After replacing the soundbar, I kept having the same problems with the app. I will turn on the app and play a movie, the soundbar will be connected to the TV but it will keep saying "No audio signals" while the movie is playing. Some times restarting my Sony TV will work, some times turning the soundbar on and off on the app will work, most times the soundbar won't work at all. An update for the app is needed in February 2025 which caused the soundbar to stop connecting. I had to replace the device on the app but it couldn't register the device. After an hour of the device not registering, I started to write this review and wanted to get a screenshot of the error. The error failed one more time before finally working. The Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 9 is a major disappointment. The Sony BRAVIA Connect app is terrible. When the soundbar works, it sounds really great but the stress of whether or not it'll work is not worth it. If I was still within the time frame to return this product, I would. I should have purchased a BOSE soundbar instead.

Hello some1,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are truly sorry to hear about your experience with our BRAVIA Theater Bar 9 (HT-A9000). Customer satisfaction is our top priority, and we strive to provide high-quality products. Your issue seems to be related to connectivity and performance. Here are a few troubleshooting steps that might help improve your experience: Stable Connection: Ensure that the Wireless Playback Quality is set to "Priority on Stable Connection." You can do this via the Sony | BRAVIA Connect app. Select Settings → Wireless Speaker Settings and set the Wireless Playback Quality to "Priority on Stable Connection."
Stable Connection: Ensure that the Wireless Playback Quality is set to "Priority on Stable Connection." You can do this via the Sony | BRAVIA Connect app. Select Settings → Wireless Speaker Settings and set the Wireless Playback Quality to "Priority on Stable Connection."
Speaker Positioning: Ensure that the control box and speakers are correctly placed and not obstructed. Moving the speaker more than 5 cm (2 inches) away from the side of the wall can often help with sound quality. If the speaker is in a corner, turning it about 45 degrees can improve performance.
Software Updates: Check that your soundbar and connected devices have the latest software updates. For details on software updates, refer to the product Help Guide or go to Settings → Software update in the Sony | BRAVIA Connect app.
Interference: Interference between the network connection and speaker connection may occur. Try switching the band of the wireless LAN router to 2.4 GHz and set up the wireless network connection again.

This is the worst soundbar ever! Audio dropouts, only very levels of sound, hard to hear dialogue, constantly disconnecting from the TV, I hate that you have to use an app to set it it up. Why can't you stupid, lazy morons back go back to how to use make soundbars? back when you used to make actually good products instead of garbage. I hate the stupid, gimmicky virtual surround sound processing feature Sound Field. It just makes sound worse. Everything actually sounds better with it off. Can we please just get Dolby Atmos without the fake gimmicky virtual surround? I like that you finally got rid of the the truly terrible Vertical Surround Engine. Sound quality is good only sometimes for certain things. I hate that the app forces to also setup your Sony TV with the app. The app sometimes randomly stops working and is terrible. You never use to need to control a Sony Soundbar. I hate how it always asks me to reset up my Sony soundbar with TV every time I turn on my TV. I just want a soundbar like the one I have now that is simple to use and just works but without any stupid sound processing gimmicks and doesn't require an app in order to set up and use and doesn't work and is terrible and extremely difficult to set up.

This soundbar is not deserving of the Sony premium badge. Nothing but constant issues from the getgo. I got distorting flatulance sound coming out of speaker and sw5 subwoofer, as well as cutouts on the rear rs5 speakers. I updated it to the latest firmware and even went through all the diagnostic steps which include resetting my router. I even tried it on another network and again, same issues. Sony pins the blame on my wireless network. However my network is top notch (verizon fios gigabit) with no issues with any other products, including my other soundbars from Samsung and Bose. Sound quality is mediocre at best. Surround effects and atmos bubble is decent. However, dialogue is absolute trash. Simply terrible and worse than some old cheap soundbars that I have used in the past. Bass is non existent and music quality is total garbage. If I could give this soundbar negative stars, I would.

I bought this to replace the HT-S7000 and accompanying subwoofer. I should have returned it when I had the chance. The remote is worthless. There is no display on this like most of its predecessors at this price point. They force you to use their Bravia app. It continuously disconnects from my bar/woofer and refuses to reconnect. Sad. Genuinely sad. The HT-S7000 still sounded better. Even without Atmos.

If you value any sense of audio fidelity and even surround sound imaging this is not the soundbar for you. At this price point absolutely terrible. Bought four soundbars for a comparison. This one, Sonos Arc Ultra, Polk Magnifi Ax and Sennheiser Ambeo Plus. All three on sale far exceed every sound characteristic, from vocal to surround sound. Hard to believe anybody would buy it and you owe it to yourself to try others!

Hi rkmovies, We're sorry to hear that you are not happy with your BRAVIA Theater Bar 9 speaker. This is definitely not what we wanted you to experience. To improve the sound quality on your HT-A9000, you can try the following steps:
1) On the Sony|BRAVIA Connect or Sony | Home Entertainment Connect app, go to Settings → Wireless Speaker Settings → Wireless Playback Quality, and set it to "Priority on Sound Quality".
2) On the Sony|BRAVIA Connect app, go to Settings → Sound Settings, and disable DSEE Ultimate.
3) Ensure that your HT-A9000 has the latest firmware update, which includes stability improvements. You can check the current software version and update it if necessary.
4) If you are experiencing audio sync issues, connect the source device directly to the Home Theater System or Soundbar using an HDMI cable. This can help improve the synchronization between audio and video.
5) If you are using a Bluetooth connection, ensure there are no obstructions between the unit and the connected device. Place the devices closer together to improve signal transmission. Additionally, turn off any nearby Wi-Fi devices that might be causing interference.

Was happy to match this sound bar with my Sony tv, couldn’t use the center option don’t a lot of hissing, trouble shouted everything and just used it without that option. Have to keep the Bass at minimum because speakers can’t handle it and cracks and pops . It is pretty loud but sucks without the Bass

Hi MarkG,
While it's good to know it can get loud, we're sorry to hear about the lack of bass at higher volumes and there is hissing noise when connecting the BRAVIA Theater Bar 8 and your Sony TV with the Center Speaker Mode enabled. We would like to discuss this with you further to ensure proper connection and settings. In the meantime, we highly recommend downloading and installing the latest software for the TV and Soundbar. These updates include key features, applications, bug fixes, and feature improvements.
You may hear a hissing sound when using the TV's Acoustic Center Sync function. If this happens, in the area where the power cable comes out of the back of the TV and the area around other external devices, make sure to keep the cables of the Acoustic Center Sync device away from those cables.
Note: Due to the nature of electronic devices, you may hear a slight noise when you're very close to the TV speakers. This is not a malfunction. When watching TV from an appropriate viewing distance, this should not be audible. Additionally, there may be cases where the audio signal of the content being played contains components that sound like noise.
If the issue persists, reset the speaker system by following the steps here: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/sound-bars-home-theater-systems-sound-bars-surround-speakers/ht-a8000/articles/00250225

The Bravia sound bar sounds good, but the Geek Squad (and I) were unable to get it to reliably control the sound, both on/off and volume. And we tried replacing the Sony Bravia TV, too. Their assessment was that the sound bar (and we actually tried two of them) was defective.

For the price I have gotten better that was less expensive. The sound quality was very poor. I had to max out the volume just to compete with a lower level sound bar. I would not recommend this product. I had to return it and get something better.

The poor Overall Rating is not due to the product itself, it reflects the poor (or non existing) customer support from Best Buy. I ordered an Open Box product which was categorized as being in "Excellent" condition. According to the Best Buy website, Open Boxes ship with all parts that belong to the product. In my case, all hardware (wall fixtures and stands) as well as the cable that allows to use the TV as center speaker were missing. When I called support, I was told that yes, Excellent means all parts should be there but if not, the Best Buy policy is not to do anything - it's the customer's problem to fix, they are not willing to do anything. I spoke with a supervisor as well, same poor answer. I understand that mistakes can happen, but a company interested in customer satisfaction would be willing to correct their mistakes. So if you are looking to buy the bar, make sure to get it from a company that stands behind their promises.

I purchased this from Best Buy in Nov 2024. Earlier in 2025 I started experiencing a sort of “brick mode” from the soundbar. Sony has failed to properly diagnose the issue now 3 times. When the soundbar has been shipped to Sony it was no longer bricked, and they shipped it back. It was working for 1-2 weeks upon receiving it back and then bricks again. As of this review it has now bricked for the 4th time. Sony has indicated exchange is likely, but I would not be surprised if this happens on the new one as I have read of several orher users experiencing the same exact issue. Good luck!

Worked great for about 1 month with our Sony Bravia TV. Great sound, I was impressed. But then, it became very muted when I initially turned on the TV, and now I have to turn the TV off, and back on to get it to work. Of course, it is too late to return. I reinstalled the soundbar, didn't help. Now what?

We are truly sorry to hear that your BRAVIA Theater Bar 8 stopped working after only a few months of use. We understand your frustration, especially when comparing it to other premium systems, and we want to help you get your home theater back up and running.
Before considering other brands, we recommend trying a power reset: unplug the unit for at least 60 seconds and then plug it back in. If it still doesn't power on, you can perform a factory reset by holding the Power button on the bar itself for more than 10 seconds.

Hi JenniferM,
We're sorry to hear about your experience with the BRAVIA Theater Bar 8 and appreciate you sharing your feedback. We understand how frustrating it is when the in-store sound quality doesn't match your home setup.
It sounds like there may be an optimization issue between the soundbar and your Samsung TV. The Theater Bar 8 is designed to deliver incredible sound, and we have a few recommendations to help enhance your audio experience:
1. Use High-Speed HDMI: Ensure you are using a high-speed HDMI cable between your TV and the soundbar to guarantee full compatibility with the latest sound formats. You can use the one that is included in the box.
2. Activate Sound Field: On the soundbar remote, press the Sound Field button. This outputs sound with the full surround effect, significantly increasing the sense of presence.
3. Perform Sound Field Optimization: Use the BRAVIA Connect app, go to Settings > Sound Settings > Sound Field Optimization. This process will fine-tune the surround effects for your specific room.
If you continue to experience issues or would like personalized assistance to ensure your new soundbar is set up for the best sound, please contact our dedicated technical support team here:
