Based on reviews and my trust on Sony, I purchased the Soundbar and the subwoofer Sw3. So far the only good thing was that the sound is louder. Instead of wowing me, this Soundbar has only disappointed me. All I have noticed are the issues after owning for less than 24 hours: 1. Without the rear speakers, the soundfield is just a marketing gimmick similar to how they did with Z9F. I had purchased it 2 years back and then returned as the vertical soundfield wasn’t effective. 2. The up firing speakers sounded great when the soundfield optimization was being tested. For Netflix movies that have awesome Atmos effects, the sound was barely noticeable to be vertical. 3. The Sounbar alone has literally no bass. Don’t understand how Sony could even advertise it or sell it as a standalone Soundbar. 4. Connecting with A80j Tv which is supposedly one of the ideal model for this Soundbar has so many issues at startup. The TV cannot detect the soundbar because the soundbar takes a lot of time to start. Once it starts manual switching to it isn’t possible either as somehow the TV cannot connect to it anymore. This happens if the TV controls the soundbar which is the default feature and a selling point of using 1 remote and Sony products as TV and Soundbar. 5. The connection to the subwoofer that I purchased isn’t stable unless I set to give priority to connection over sound quality. This is even when the subwoofer was 2 feet from the bar. 6. Turning on voice mode does make the dialog clearer but other sounds are washed away. 7. Music sounds horrible even on YouTube. I know that I have the knowledge of a good Soundbar as I have a JBL 9.1 which is now 2 years old but is way better than this one.

Hi TgAur,
We regret to hear that you are not satisfied with the HTA5000 soundbar. Your feedback is extremely important to us and is very much appreciated. For optimum performance, make sure that the software version of the soundbar is up-to-date. Please refer to this link for more information:
https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/sound-bars-home-theater-systems-sound-bars-surround-speakers/ht-a5000/software/00272343
Depending on the combination of the setting of SOUND FIELD and input signal, surround sound processing may not work effectively. The surround effect may be subtle, depending on the program or disc. To play multi-channel audio, check the digital audio output setting on the device connected to the speaker system. For details, refer to the operating instructions of the connected device.
Additionally, you can adjust the sound settings of the soundbar to tailor-fit the sound quality to your needs. You may refer to this link for more information (refer to "Adjusting the Sound and Volume Quality"):
https://helpguide.sony.net/ht/a5000/v1/en/index.html
For connection issues when using the optional subwoofer, the troubleshooting steps on this link may help resolve the issue:
https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/sound-bars-home-theater-systems-sound-bars-surround-speakers/ht-a5000/articles/00200429
For optimum performance when connecting a Sony TV, make sure to use the supplied HDMI cable of the soundbar. Check that the cable is connected properly and secured.
Resetting the soundbar may also help resolve those issues. Please refer to the steps on this link:

I’ve had this product for just over 2 years. It worked great for the first 2 years. I had no issues with it until one day it stopped working. I couldn’t get it to do anything but flash hello. I tried everything Sony customer service recommended with no change. Now it won’t even turn on. I took it to an electronics specialist who said that there is nothing they can do to fix it and diagnostics cot $85! I have even called and emailed Sony and because it’s outside of the year warranty there is nothing they can do. This soundbar is trash. Don’t waste your money. You’ll be just as disappointed!

I would like to warn others about this product. I have read from Sony's forums and Reddit -- and this seems to be a common issue. Suddenly my sound bar (HT-A5000) stopped working, and looped the "HELLO" welcome on its little LCD display. I think perhaps it may have received an update to its firmware or software, which essentially put it in such a boot, "HELLO" loop. Power cycling did nothing. The sound bar did not respond to the remote or to its capactive touch buttons. A hard reset would require combination of buttons (power and volume down for 5+ seconds), however since it is capacitve touch it requires the software to work, which it doesn't, thus it cannot be reset to factory defaults. I have a Sony subwoofer that only works with Sony soundbars... Sony's warranty range is 1 year after purchase.... this occurred 1 year + 1 month after purchase.... This has proven to be a waste of too much money, for a device to suddenly brick. I have a support case with them, but likely will be fruitless. If I could, I would return it and shop around for a sound system that is more reliable, not closed ecosystem, and that has a physical factory reset switch. Lesson learned. I really liked Sony's products prior to this experience, I have a Bravia x85 TV -- really nice TV with very little processing power (perpetual latency when using on-board OS/apps/etc.) -- literally had to enable a hack-y configuration that allows only 4 simultaneous processes to run. Anywho, this review is about the soundbar. I strongly recommend avoiding this product and other Sony soundbars (I have read this issue/same exact symptoms on other Sony models - HT-A7000, and more). Avoid even if there is a bundled "deal" -- I regret falling for the Best Buy sales pitch.

The soundbar itself is amazing! I found it elsewhere and no have one and I love it. Deep bass, great Atmos experience! However…. I ordered one from Best Buy recently through the Best Buy app. It’s was labeled “excellent condition” I have made purchases for open box before and haven’t really had any major problems. This one being excellent, was supposed to have all original parts and accessories. Occasionally there might be a replacement that is acceptable., But generally open box excellent has all original parts and accessories. This one showed up after waiting over a week with a Sony TV remote that was not compatible with the sound bar itself. The original sound bar remote was nowhere to be found. Somebody just stuck some random Sony TV remote in there, assuming it was geek squad. Very disappointed with that experience as I had to return it and order it elsew. But I do want to say now that I have one, the A5000 is perfect for my size living room. I love it.!

I bought this along with rhe SA-SW5 and was underwhelmed. I was replacing a 10 year old Samsung Curved TV and soundbar with sub. The audio had to be around 37 after auto tuning to be at rhe same level as my old one at 15. The audio was really muddy, the highs werent bright and the lows were meh. The inability to really tune the eq was a giant drag as well, with some work the sound was better but not worth the money. I did the HEAT bank shoot out test and the sub was 10/10 but the reat of the audio was meh. Atmos is really cool but the speakers let down. I ended up pulling my HW-F850 from 2013 out and hooked it up, it was such an obvious difference my wife asked why I had bought the Sony, so its goimg back.

Hi Trevor,
Thank you for the review and we do apologize for the inconvenience. If the soundbar is still with you, please allow us to help you and turn this into a better experience. On the Soundbar remote control, press the NIGHT button to turn off the Night Mode setting. If that does not work, reset your soundbar and try again. Here's the link on how to.

1 month after the 1 year warranty expired this thing completely bricked. Flashing hello. Unplugged, all cables swapped, Bravia TV reset, ps5 reset, changed all settings. Nothing. The sound quality is pretty diassapointing too tbh. Others have had the dame issue. Definitely not worth more than $300 and even then it's probably not going to last long.

The soundbar quite working with less than 2 years use, of which it was only used for one or 2 evenings a week. The soundbar is stuck on the HELLO screen. Do your research, and just buy another brand!!!!!! This will absolutely be the last Sony product that I ever buy!!!

Bought this in Aug 2023 was working good then 1 day it stopped connecting to TV . Now it is stuck on screen, saying "HELLO" and won't reboot as per Sony and Best buy advice . Spoke to Sony and the repair is on me, since warranty is over the year. Others have same problem as on their website. Never again for Sony products

This soundbar has to be the main cause of syncing and switching issues. When trying to switch between inputs. It does not see devices that are already powered on. If I'm watching the dvr and switch to chromecast, then go back to the dvr, I have to turn off the dvr and turn it back on for the soundbar to be able to see it. A real PITA. I considered not running the hdmi for the dvr through the soundbar, since it does not see the dvr. Hoping that won't cause a lip syncing issue when I have to run an optical cable from the tv to the sound bar

Hi Mez70,
Thank you for the review and we're sorry to hear what happened the connection of your soundbar. Do you have the right type of HDMI cable needed to transfer audio/video signals between your TV and other devices? There are four types of HDMI cables but we recommend using the HDMI 2.1a or HDMI 2.0 to 2.0b. You may find this article helpful on how to resolve your issue.

It works good when it works. I have to completely reset my Sony soundbar every 2 weeks. It completely freezes up & stops working & says no input signal. The only thing I can do is reset it by holding down power & volume down buttons for over 5 seconds. Only then will it start working again. Very frustrating to have to keep doing this. I updated software already. Had it over a month & have had to do it 5 or 6 times already. Too bad I can't return it now!

I do not like this soundbar at all. The treble on this is too high and there isn't a lot of options to change it. I have it paired with the Sony RS3S rear speakers along with the Sony SW5 Subwoof. I've tried everything in the book to get it to sound right, and i could just never get it to my liking. Pricewise it is definitely not worth it for me, especially with the options that you are given. I plan to replace it with the Sony A7000, and i hope that it's a whole lot better.

Hi Zink, Thanks for sharing your experience with the Sony HTA5000 sound bar. We're sorry to hear that you are not getting the best out of it. Just to make sure, there are settings in your device's Settings menu which you can configure depending on your preference. To ensure that you are getting the most out of your HT-A5000, make sure to run Sound Field Optimization so that the soundbar can calibrate its performance to your environment, and that it sounds like it was engineered to be in your room.

Would not recommend. 14 months after purchase and now out of warranty, the unit has frozen in the HELLO mode. No help from Sony but luckily I've been a Best Buy Total Tech Protection customer for a few years. I had to take the unit to my local BB store where they've sent the unit to their regional repair facility. I was informed that parts were on Backorder with an eta two weeks out. This is all on Sony. I bought this soundbar along with a Bravia XR 75" TV. Best Buy people sold Sony hard but coming from Samsung I'm highly disappointed in Sony.

When I first got this for the first two months it was really good. For the past six months I've had nothing but problems with this and the Sony SA-SW3 200W subwoofer where they just keep disconnecting from one another. As of today they will no longer even link to one another. I will never buy another Sony product every time I do it's always something wrong with them.

Been a Sony guy all my life but this was a huge disappointment. Bought the full boat, bar, subwoofer and rears to go with the Sony A90J OLED for the easy pairing. that worked, but nothing else did. As soon as I tried it, I realized this was a bad mistake. Thought it was me so I hooked it up three more times from scratch. Not me. This was either a lemon or Sony just got this one wrong. Took back to Bestbuy who were great and returned without question. Did notice there were a couple other SW5 woofers on the open shelf. Future tip, look there first. Bought a Bose from website. Exactly what the doctor ordered. Stay in your lanes.

After 18 months, the speaker is not working and displays Hello on the display. Contacting Sony, they requested I send it for repair to a location in New York since it’s outside the one year warranty window. It was a nice speaker but for several hundred dollars, this needs to last longer or the customer service should be better.
