The bar really does sound good, but after about 18 months the volume will randomly shoot to 100%. This bar does put out a LOT of sound. So. Much. Sound. Resets and updates have done nothing. Sony will definitely not be the first choice on my next shopping trip.

I am a huge Sony fan. I love their televisions and the PS5. I needed a sound bar for my bedroom because the television volume just wasn't enough. I picked the HT a5000 with the 200 watt sub and the SR5s. Sony has it that once you enter the menu if you have a Sony television, the integrate many of the options in the television menu which was nice. This would include the voice surround levels and base levels. However, when you push the settings menu, it doesn't back out to the streaming provider or the show that you were watching. They actually make you pick the home screen and you have to re-enter the show that you were watching which is quite clumsy and not user friendly. With regards to the sound fields, there is an on and off option and then there's basically three fields. You have the dobie surround and then you have Sony's version of height and then there's a third option. The only one that sounds decent is the Sony vertical height. The dobie surround was horrible. Absolutely unacceptable for such a high price. Soundbar the the base was okay on the sound bar tends to be base forward which is great cuz that's what I like but the system just did not do it for the price. The surrounds which I had the good ones the SR. 5s were barely noticeable on different content of movies and music. The sound bar sounded better on music than movies. However, nevertheless, I ended up returning the unit and gotten a surnace arc.

Hi Psychdoctor,
Thanks for sharing your review and experience with the HTA5000. We appreciate you for being a Sony fan. It's unfortunate that you were not completely satisfied with the soundbar. Your feedback is extremely important to us and is very much appreciated. For optimum performance, it is recommended to install the latest software version of the soundbar.
Depending on the combination of the setting of SOUND FIELD and input signal, surround sound processing may not work effectively. The surround effect may be subtle, depending on the program or disc. To play multi-channel audio, check the digital audio output setting on the device connected to the speaker system.
Thanks again for sharing your review and we hope you will consider Sony for your future purchases.

I thought I purchased high quality soundbard for my Sony TV, however, after nearly 2 yrs of use the Sony HT-A5000 suddenly stopped working. This is very disappointing!
Tacco Posted
Not really worth the money… I had a JBL 900 series sound bar, but wanted to “upgrade” to all Sony products. The sound bar is fine, but for the price tag of almost $1000 without a subwoofer I expect a lot out of the product. I did buy the larger Subwoofer offered coming out to almost $2,000. Took it home set it up expecting to be blown away… I just wasn’t. The JBL is $1000 with sub and I think the quality is better plus you get Bluetooth satellite surround that disconnects from the main bar, all included. Sony products usually don’t let me down but I have to say it’s best to look elsewhere for a quality sound bar that includes all you need rather then piecing it together for double the cost. The 2 saving graces this sound bar has is the dialogue is very clear, and easy to use especially if you have a Sony TV (I do) but if your expecting great movie sound I would go a different direction.

I was highly anticipating the delivery of my new Sony HT-A5000, only to be completely let down. Prior to purchasing this, my 50" XJ90 Bravia TV was sitting on top of a Sony HT-XT1 Sound Bar/Platform. Since my new TV was capable of handling all of the new sound fields, (Dolby Atmos) I wanted to step up. Well, to be blunt, this $1000 sound bar has no depth to the sound whatsoever, and is not worth the price tag. Sounds real tinny even with bass maxed out. My HT-XT1 sounded way better. And Dolby Atmos, I am not impressed. I watched two movies (Dune & Jungle Cruise), and could not hear anything special. I guess to get the full experience, you have to get the sub and the rear speakers. Well, that's not going to happen. Unfortunately this will get packed up and returned to the store.

A little underwhelming considering the steep price tag. Okay volume but no base to speak of. I was expecting a little more from Sony. My 5 year old Sony HT-Z9F Sound Bar with rear speakers and subwoofer deliver a superior sound. Unfortunately I was told this system is not compatible with my new Sony 65" TV. Not looking forward to the added cost of subwoofer and rear speakers. Or added clutter to the room.

Not really worth the price tag they put on these. Sony upsells everything and I have an LG soundbar for 700$ less that blows this out of the water

I was so excited for this because it had a built in subwoofer and 5 speakers. It does take up a lot of space but the sound was not good at all and that shocks me out of sony. I had my volume to 50 on it and it was not giving me what I wanted. I ended up returning this and purchasing the Samsung 9.1.4 channel surround sound system.

Hi Howard,
We are sorry to hear that you had a disappointing experience with the Sony sound system. It sounds like you were expecting better sound quality, especially given the built-in subwoofer and five speakers. There are a few potential reasons why the sound might not have met your expectations, such as the subwoofer volume settings, Night mode being on, or incomplete Sound Field Optimization.
We understand that you had to return the HTA5000 and we hope that you consider Sony again in your future purchases.

Worked great for about 2 years and now stuck on "hello" since im outside the warranty i cant do anything about it. Don't waste your money.
Sounded OK, but did not pass-thru actual HDMI 2.1, only 2.0. So I did not get a few features when passing my source through the sound bar. Going thru the TV then to the soundbar was OK, but then there was a slight delay with Dolby Atmos that I was not able to sync. I returned this for the A-7000

The sound quality doesn't seem to be enhanced with the sound bar. The dialog isn't any clearer than without the bar. I have to turn the volume up to the high 40's and low 50's to hear the dialog well. On my other TV's I can clearly hear the dialog at 18 or much below that.

Hopefully adding the subwoofer will make it better. The soundbar arrived a day earlier than the sub, thanks to a UPS delay. Both items were supposed to arrive today So I decided to try it out without the subwoofer and so far am underwhelmed. It really is no better than my bose cinemate 15 from 6 years ago. If sub does not make it better, its going back, no way worth $1000 more than what I had.
