Had none of the packaging, no manual. The sub is scratched really bad, worst part is the metal grill on the front is dented. I knew i should have checked when the box was way too big.

The soundbar sounds good, but it has major issues. The soundbar will randomly switch inputs to bluetooth in the middle of watching a show or movie. The only way I found to stop this is by disabling bluetooth on the soundbar. Now instead of switching inputs the soundbar flashes "Not Used" every 5-10 minutes. Another issue is if you fast forward in a show or movie, the sound will come out of both the tv and soundbar creating an echo. The simplest way to fix this is by rewinding a little and then the sound will only come out of the soundbar. This soundbar has been very disappointing. I purchased this thinking a Sony soundbar would work without any problems with a Sony tv. I was wrong.

i'm using this negative product review after a disappointing experience involving the 'home installation' which was disputed based on what had been specified as 'NOT on order'. This was a second 'call' addressing sound-audio problems i was having involving a receiver and other speakers prewired in room ceiling. I attempted to resolve at store with management saying any misunderstanding was due to bestbuy (i expected the sound bar to be installed ) No-one had any apathy.) After recently spending $700 with Bestbuy I felt some consideration was resonable which came down to $45 additional charge for the install Kent Evans (no more)

Bought this after a Sony rep pushed it pretty hard in the store. I thought it was a bestbuy employee but learned later it wasn’t. I noticed one day I didn’t hear the bass from the speaker and although the sound bar was on and connected through the eARC the sound was coming only from my tv. Looking in the settings and somehow the tv wasn’t recognizing it. Tried it on multiple other tvs and got the same problem. Bought the geek squad warranty and now I have to wait a month or more to be repaired instead of being able to swap it out or return it. Only had bad luck with Sony products unfortunately so do not recommend.

Pros: Easy setup, seems to work fine most of the time* Cons: It decides to switch into Bluetooth Pairing mode without any user interaction on my part. No touching of the remote, no voice control, no touching anything, it just turns off the audio and goes into the search mode. Happens anywhere from once every couple hours to several times in an hourlong tv show. Clearly I am not the first to experience this. The subwoofer also doesn't sound all that great - it will enunciate voices on occasion - so you might hear it every 3 seconds or so.

This subwoofer/soundbar has zero bass. Plus it spontaneously just turns off, completley randomly, on its own. Sometimes it does it 3 times in one hour, other times it doesnt do it for days. For the price, i was expecting a lot more. The Samsung combo i got for less $ is vastly better, with no technical issues and serious bass.

Bought this sound bar to have a better sound quality over the from the sony bravia tv that I own. Sound sucks on this sound bar. The TV sound was bettter then the sound bar. Had the sound bar connected through HDMI and Bluetooth with no sound improvement. Hand to have volume at 35 to just hear the TV through sound bar. Yes sound bar was compatible with TV.

Best Buy installed the sound bar annd Subwoofer, it worked for four weeks. Called Best Buy and was told to contact Sony. They instructed me to unplug the system and it would reprogram its self. After having to unplug the system to have sound we called Sony three times before they instructed me to sent the Sound Bar and Subwoofer to United Radio Sony’s repair company. They could not duplicate the issue. And informed me that we’re shipping it back. They said If I still had the same problem call Sony. What happen to the days when your could return product that does not work?

Wish I would have kept the box and everything so I could return it. First off, the instructions seem straightforward, but they didn’t help when I had to reset the whole thing out the box. After it connected, the first couple days were great. Then I encountered synching problems where the sound wasn’t accurate with what was on our Flat Screen. Then the subwoofer started disconnecting. We don’t have other wifi devices around it. The most annoying thing is that, at least twice a day, when we go to lower or turn up the value, it will suddenly get EXTREMELY loud for 5 seconds. And it doesn’t stop no matter how much we try and turn it down, before it finally lowers the volume. At this point, if we put it back at the volume level it was at before trying to turn up or down, it suddenly sly sounds quieter even though it’s at the exact same volume it was at before. Don’t bother wasting your money. I did this out of convenience because we have a high end latest model Sony flat screen that easily connected. But, now I regret it.

This sounds bar sounds great and was easy to setup, unfortunately it constantly drops out of TV mode into BT pairing mode randomly. Sony tech support tried to update firmware to latest version but it failed each time.

I bought this item using an open box. I selected the excellent option however I did not receive an excellent option. This item came with missing and accessories in the sound bar and subwoofer itself came damaged. I’m a little disappointed because now I can’t trust the process.

Purchased to go with our new Sony Bravia tv but it’s been constant issues. Sound bar is connected through eArc but constantly drops connection to the tv. Recently, the bar randomly goes to blue tooth mode while watching tv. Will be looking for another unit.

Honestly very disappointed with this purchase after using this sound bar for 2 years. The sound quality is ok, but I am mostly annoyed by the functionality of this soundbar. Sometimes it turns on automatically with my Sony TV and sometimes it doesn’t. It often goes to max volume for no reason. Will definitely be switching this out this year, can’t take it anymore.

I'm really bummed about this product. I love the Sony brand and this product has really let me down. It's constantly trying to pair to Bluetooth in the middle of viewing tv. This then stops whatever I'm watching as the TV is trying to switch between speakers. This makes the speakers unusable because it's constantly faulting while watching something. One of the few purchases I truly regret and wish I would've put my $250 towards something else.

Subwoofer started sounding distorted and wasn’t working very well after a month of purchase. I would not recommend this. I may have purchased a device that was defective but honestly you can find better.

1. Check your firmware version:
Make sure your soundbar is updated to Version 1.188. You can check and download it here: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/sound-bars-home-theater-systems-sound-bars-surround-speakers/ht-s400/software/00278020
2. Reset and re-link your subwoofer:
Hold the power and volume (–) buttons on the soundbar for 5+ seconds until you see “[RESET]” on the display. Then unplug and plug back in the power cord.
After that, manually re-link the subwoofer by following the steps in the manual here:

Delivery company couldn't get into the community so they just returned the item, no call of any kind from Carrier nor from Best Buy. States on the order return was received and allow 10 business days for a refund, this is day 11 and no refund, didn't take but a few minutes for the money to come out of the account at the time of purchase, seems wrong to me, and no one has every contacted me about either the delivery nor the refund, i hope Best Buy is not going down to the deep end of bad companies, been a good customer of the years....

Thank you for sharing your feedback about the HT-S400. We're sorry to hear the sound isn’t as loud as you expected. Let’s try a few simple steps to help improve the volume:
1. Make sure the soundbar and TV volume are both turned up. Sometimes the TV volume can affect the soundbar.
2. Check that the soundbar is set to the right input and that the cables are connected tightly.
3. Try changing the sound mode on the soundbar remote (like “Voice” or “Sound Field”) to see if it makes a difference.
4. If you’re using Bluetooth, make sure your device’s volume is also turned up.

6. Try resetting the soundbar. Press and hold the power button and the volume down (–) button on the bar speaker for more than 5 seconds.
