No tone control, and almost nonexistent bass compared to the 30 year old Pioneer receiver it replaced. When I contacted Sony they said it didn't need tone controls. They were sadly mistaken. If my TV had RCA jacks instead of HDMI, I'd return it.

Purchased this item in the middle of June, but did not get a chance to connect it until last weekend on July 5. Connection was easy and went very quickly. However, after powering it on, I am supremely disappointed in the lack of power coming from this unit. I removed it and boxed it back up, grabbed my receipt, and started the return process online. Only then did I realize that I had neither a 30 day, 60 day, nor 90 day return. I had a 15 day return window for this unit. I am now stuck with what amounts to be a glorified transistor radio from the 1960s. Incredibly disappointed!

Sound is good, Bluetooth is handy, but when I turn the receiver off, it argues with me. 5-10 seconds later it comes back on. I haven't taken the time to see if there's some setting to correct this, or to return it but it's very annoying.

We do apologize for the inconvenience you're having with the AV receiver. Please try to power reset the unit and try again. We strongly recommend that the AV receiver is directly to the walloutlet.

I didn't install this unit for 2 months after I purchased it and I'm sorry I waited. I finally replaced my old receiver with this one and I got to say I'm not very impressed with the overall sound compared to my old unit. The highs are very weak especially listening to classical music and it's not the speakers, they sounded great with the old receiver. It seems there's not enough control of bass & treble. It's overly complicated for any adjustments. I'm not happy at all.

Hi Disappointing, thank you for purchasing our product. We're sorry to hear that you have an issue with your SONY unit. You can enjoy higher-fidelity sound from all inputs using the Pure Direct function. When the Pure Direct function is on, the display panel lights off to suppress noise that affects sound quality. (Press PURE DIRECT using the supplied remote). Bass and treble do not work when the Pure Direct function is selected. You can adjust BASS and TREBLE using the supplied remote from –10 dB to +10 dB in 1 dB step.

Hi Unhappy, We regret to hear you are having an sound level issue with your Sony receiver. Make sure the volume is not set to “VOL MIN”. Please try to press the VOLUME + button all the way up to see if there will be difference with the sound. Check that all connecting cables are inserted to their input/output jacks on the receiver, speakers and the devices. Make sure you have connected to both the L and R jacks of an analog device, as analog devices require both L and R jack connections. Use a stereo audio cable (not supplied).

Bought to use with record player. Unfortunately the phono preamp in this thing is ridiculously weak. It works fine for digital inputs, but the volume for playing records is completely unacceptable. If that's what you are purchasing it for, look elsewhere, or buy a separate phono pre instead.

This came with box already damaged, but I didn't make a big deal about it. However the reciver went completely dead after 5 months. I'm not sure if I can return it or have it replaced. This was a open box item,however there's no way it should have died on me that quickly. I recommend trying something different than this particular device in that it just stopped working for no reason

The sound quality is not the best an the tuner sucks it doesn't find half the stations and you can't manually tune it. I should of bought a better amp.

I replaced an old Sony that had outstanding sound but was starting to die (after 30 years!) with this one, given my excellent experience with the older model. Sadly I was greatly disappointed. The sound quality is not even in the same ballpark, to the point that when I get over my frustration at wasting money at this one I'll be replacing it. I guess that despite today's electronics advances you still get what you pay for in terms of sound qualilty.

Hi Greg, Thank you for the feedback on your experience with your STRDH190 receiver. This is usually not the case for our home receiver nor the experience we want you to have. To ensure you're getting optimal audio performance with this unit, please try to follow the steps below:
Make sure the VOLUME or MASTER VOLUME knob of your AV Receiver is not set to VOL MIN.
Make sure headphones aren't connected to your receiver or input device.
Press the SPEAKERS button on your receiver and select a setting other than OFF SPEAKERS.
Try switching to a different input source.

Been using for five months. Good for hardwired connections. Easy controls and intuitive remote. The Bluetooth connectivity is awful though. Whether it's connected via bluetooth to my laptop or Android phone, there is a quick but loud static pulse between almost every song, or else a series of R2D2-like tones. I've tried resetting the bluetooth connections, but it hasn't helped. I'll be sending it in for repairs, but it came out of the box like this.

Sony makes nice equipment. I have never had problems with Sony. However, this unit had a problem out of the box. The Left Channel speaker output on Speakers A did not work. Returned this unit. Ended up ordering the Yamaha online from BestBuy. I think this was a one time issue. Maybe Sony needs to work on their quality control process.

I know it's just a stereo receiver, but it should have a subwoofer input and at least 1 HDMI input. You cannot manually tune in the radio stations and the ones that do that tune in are not really clear. I'm mad I threw away the box, otherwise I'd return this.

your sales person (on line) told me that this receiver would communicate with and work with JBL bluetooth speakers (that I also bought from you). It DOES NOT work with these speakers. Your employee misrepresented this product

This is a nice little stereo for beginners . It has a lot of the modern plug in jacks ,but the sound quality is terrible for having 200 watts. My garage stereo has 200 watts and blows this thing away. Plus no loop hook-up for equalizer. If you want good quality sound look for the stereos made from the 70s to 90s.
