The Sony ULT Field 1 definitely gets loud for its size, which is great if you need strong volume in a small, portable speaker. It’s compact, easy to carry around, and feels well built. However, the overall sound output wasn’t quite how I liked it. While it can push volume, the audio quality didn’t feel as balanced or clear as I was hoping for. It’s not bad, but it didn’t fully meet my expectations in terms of sound profile. Overall, it’s decent if you prioritize loudness and portability, but if sound quality is your top priority, you may want to compare it with other options.

Great sound, very loud and clear. Only thing wrong with this speaker is that it can’t retain a charge and operate once the battery dies. You have to charge it for a while before it stays on and charges again.

Hi Babyteeth1,
Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding the sound quality and volume of your Sony ULT FIELD 1. We are glad to hear you are enjoying the audio performance, but we certainly understand your concern regarding how the speaker handles a depleted battery.
Based on the official Sony technical specifications for this model, the behavior you described is actually a standard operational feature designed to protect the long-term health of the internal battery. When the battery is completely exhausted, the speaker requires a baseline level of charge before it can stabilize its power output for playback. Even when connected to a power source, if the battery level is at zero, the device must prioritize charging for a short period before it can remain powered on for use.
To ensure you get back to your music as quickly as possible, Sony recommends using a USB AC adapter capable of delivering an output current of 1.5 A or 3.0 A. Using a lower-powered charger, such as a standard computer USB port, may significantly extend the time required before the speaker can be operated.
We hope this clears things up. Thank you for considering Sony!
Best regards,
Dominick

I actually returned it not because I thought is was a bad sounding speaker but more-so because i needed a bluetooth speaker that could produced the sound I wanted without relying on the DSD functionality of my Sony NW306 DAP to provide the sound image I was looking to enjoy. ULT Field 1 wasn’t that speaker. There aren’t a lot of portable bluetooth speakers that produce DSD decoding and so when your looking to find a speaker that outputs sound from a SONY DAP your choice are limited. The alternative is to really to know your music library formats, sample rates, and other nuances of digital music to find a speaker that provides the soundstage for the type of music you enjoy. I think this speaker might work for more modern forms of music composition like hip / hop, rap and other modern approaches to pop music but it doesn’t work well if your genre listening tastes leans more toward traditional r&b, real singers, jazz and other music formats before the Swift and Queen Bee music revolution. If all you want is powerful boomy loud bluetooth speaker, then this is the speaker for you. If you want something that even marginally scratches the surface of a balanced and warm soundstage of audio reproduction attempting to be audiophile in character and engineering, this is not the speaker for you. Can you get a decent sounding bluetooth speaker for less than, say $150? Sure you can and this may very well be it for the listening ear of some. I just think there are better bluetooth speakers with or without DSD decoding for the price that offers similar functional aesthetic of the ULT1 with better sound quality. Depending on your needs, this is great speaker but I’d say shop around and check out some of the more thoughtful online reviews of bluetooth speakers that don’t simply play popular music in reviewing bluetooth speaker performance, especially if you are pairing your speaker with a DAP and not just your desktop computer, a smartphone and or a device that doesn’t have a dedicated digital amplifier for sound.

Hi Zero, thank you for your honest review of the Sony ULT FIELD 1. We're very glad to hear it's been a great companion for your outdoor activities like camping and hiking. We understand, though, that in louder environments like a busy shop with equipment running in the background, it might not deliver the volume and power you're looking for. In those cases, we'd recommend checking out the ULT FIELD 5 or even the ULT FIELD 7. These models are built to deliver stronger sound output and could be better suited for environments with higher background noise. We appreciate your feedback and hope you'll find a model that fits your needs perfectly. I was completely shocked and disappointed at how terrible the bass sounded on this Bluetooth speaker. The passive radiator sounds like it is going to blow out if there is any type of deep base in your music. The equalizer adjustment helps absolutely 0%. I'm a huge Sony fan I love the noise canceling headphones that I own and the base on them sounds amazing. What on earth happened to this Bluetooth speaker and why is it so highly rated? I am completely confused by this.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for your honest feedback on the SRS-ULT30, JesusC. We're glad to hear you like the speaker and its overall sound quality. The SRS-ULT30 is part of the ULT POWER SOUND series, which is designed to deliver powerful bass and an open sound profile for an immersive listening experience.
We understand your comments about the bass sometimes feeling excessive and reaching the speaker's limits. The ULT30 features a tuning focused on delivering impactful bass, and some music genres or settings can emphasize this further. Compared to the ULT 1, the ULT30 offers a similar speaker setup but is tuned for a more open and room-filling sound, while maintaining that signature deep bass. We appreciate feedback like yours, as it helps us continuously improve our products to meet the diverse preferences of our listeners.
If you ever prefer a more balanced sound or wish to adjust the bass, consider experimenting with the settings via your device's equalizer or Sony's sound adjustment apps, which can help tailor the audio to your taste.
Thank you again for choosing Sony and taking the time to provide your perspective.
Best regards,

Hi ClarenseA,
Thank you for your feedback about the sound quality of our SRS-ULT10 speaker; it's great to hear that aspect is clear. We're truly sorry however, to hear you're experiencing disconnections with it, especially as a valued Sony customer with many of our products. That's certainly not the experience we want you to have.
Let's try a few troubleshooting steps that often resolve this issue:
-Unpair the SRS-ULT10 from your device's Bluetooth settings, then restart both devices, and try pairing them again from scratch.
-Try connecting your SRS-ULT10 to a different Bluetooth-enabled device (like another smartphone, tablet, or laptop). This will help us determine if the issue is with the speaker itself or with its connection to your primary device.
-Perform a factory reset. Please check the instructions provided in the following link: https://helpguide.sony.net/speaker/7862/v1/en/contents/TP1001477490.html
If after trying these steps the disconnections persist, please don't hesitate to contact our technical support team at https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US&category=headphones
Thanks for considering Sony products and for letting us know about this issue.

I have owned quite a few bluetooth speakers by Sony over the years and usually they always made me happy but, unfortunately, this ULT Field 3 speaker does not. The aesthetics are good. It has a sleek and simple look with the buttons on the top. The build quality feels very good and the removeable strap is great for when I am on the go. I have the white color and it looks great. The charging port is located on the back behind a rubber door. It uses a simple USB type C connector for charging. The battery life is pretty good. Lasts quite a while, even when using at higher volumes a bit. The setup was pretty simple, I just downloaded the app and then connected the speaker to my phone. These good things are all things I expected and always enjoyed about Sony bluetooth speakers. Now, the sound. The sound is honestly not great. I feel that it lacks clarity and definition. When using the equalizer in the app, I am able to adjust the highs and mid range easily but the bass just lacks a lot. I used the bass boost or ULT feature and it just made it sound terrible. The bass was muddy and overly boosted. It drowned out the highs and mid range. With and without the EQ and ULT sound enhancements, it just sounded bad at mid to high volumes. I am very disappointed with this speaker. For something that is at the $199.99 price point, this should sound so much better. Overall, I think there is much better for the same price.
