After about 30 days I have to say the sound quality, comfort and length of charge is great. They don't take a long time to charge either. However, like the first pair of these that I tried and returned, they randomly turn off during songs or while watching videos, and I have keep turning them back on. The % of battery left seems to be irrelevant. Gonna have to go talk to someone at the store now.

Hi RobertP, thank you so much for the great feedback on the sound, comfort and battery life of your Sony - WH1000XM4! We're sorry to hear about the random shut-offs. That's definitely not normal. Since it happened with your first pair too, it might be a settings issue. Here some steps you can try to resolve it:
1- Disable the Automatic Power off setting by Opening the Sound Connect app on your smartphone, then go to system > Automatic Power Off > Do not turn off
2- Make sure the firmware is updated, you can also check this on the Sound Connect App
3- Initialize the headphones to restore factory settings, here are the steps on how to do it:

My goal is a pair of Bluetooth headphones that I can pair with my laptop and my phone and listen to audio from both at the same time mixed together. E.g. working on my laptop with some music on low and quickly watching a video on my phone or even taking a call. I really don't need the headphones to try to be smart and auto-pause audio when switching, I can do that myself, but if it works well then I'll take it. I was primarily interested in the WH-1000XM4 headphones for their Bluetooth Multipoint support and supposed "simultaneous connections". Turns out simultaneous means the Bluetooth connection is established ("connected") but not necessarily carrying any audio over the connection. You must still swap the audio from one device to the other but at least the headphones tries to make sure that happens well. e.g.; 1. Ensure both devices are paired in the Sony app under "Connect to 2 devices simultaneously" (see attached image) 2. Start playing youtube.com audio on device1, put tab in background. 2. Start playing audio on device2. Expected: head both audio streams mixed together into one stream presented through headphones. Actual: A) (best case scenario) device1 audio is paused automatically and device2 audio starts playing. B) device1 audio remains playing and you do not hear device2 audio. At this point I don't think I really want headphones that support BT multipoint. I want headphones that establish two separate Bluetooth connections and then mix them together. Rumor has it the B&O Beoplay HX do this but good lord $499? Having said that, the feel on these headphones is amazing. I enjoy it more than my Sennheiser Momentum 3's (which also only support simultaneous connections and not simultaneous playback). Not sure I really like the swipe gestures on the right ear cup to control volume up/down, playback forward/back, and pause. I don't like that there's no physical button to toggle between ANC on/off/hear-through, you have to use the app or their software-based "adaptive sound control" feature. Audio quality is just fine but I'm currently comparing these to Sennheiser Momentum 3's which I would rate higher.

I've had the Sony M4s for about a year and this is the second time that they broke at the hinge. It practically fell apart just as I was about to wear them. I have never once dropped them and took great pride in caring for my product as they are quite expensive. As a bass lover, the sound is impeccable and features are great, but overall the quality of the product is flawed for the hinge to break twice in just under a year. For the price point, the quality is very underwhelming and for this reason, I would not recommend.

The sound quality and noise canceling features are top notch on these headphones. I use them mostly when I travel, which is usually 3-4 times a year. On my flight today, I took the headphones out of the case and a piece fell off. The other side is cracking, and ready to do the same thing. I am so disappointed as I have only had them for two years, and use them maybe 4 times a year. Durability is poor. Couldn't imagine what would have happened if I used them more frequently.

Hi Shana,
We appreciate your feedback regarding the comfort of the WH-1000XM4 headphones, but we sincerely apologize that you are experiencing sound leakage. Sound leakage is typically caused by an imperfect seal around the ears, which not only allows sound out but also compromises the noise-canceling performance. Please try slightly adjusting the position of the earcups over your ears to ensure they sit flush and completely cover them, as even a small gap can allow sound to escape. If repositioning doesn't help, checking the condition of the earpads for wear or damage may be necessary, and our support team can assist you with earpad replacement options if needed. Thanks for choosing Sony.
Best regards, Eliab

I thought I’d give them a try when I got there. They have alright sound but when receiving calls people have told me that it’s not the best quality. I think I may have gotten a dupe product or something different. I don’t have a car, so I wasn’t able to return them within the return window, however if I could change them with the right product, I.

Hi SamaraL, We're sorry to hear about your headphones. For optimum performance, make sure that the software version of the headphones is up-to-date (via the Sony Headphones Connect app). These steps may also help when using the mic function of the headphones:
-Re-establish the connection between the source device and the headset.
-When using a video calling application on a computer, switch the Bluetooth connection to HFP or HSP with the computer. During a video call, sound quality may become low due to the conditions of the communication line.
-You can also check the settings of the app that you are using for mic sensitivity if available.
For your concern regarding the right color. you may reach out to your dealer. Hope this helps. Thanks and regards ,-Craig

These are my first $100+ headphones and no electronic device I ever purchased has failed to live up to its price and expectations like 1000XM4. For this premium price, I was not just expecting premium sound quality but also premium bug-free features. It would be fair to call them recycled 1000XM3 with poorly developed new features. Let me break down my experience so far. Sound Quality -------------------- Excellent. I'm amazed by how well balanced these headphones are. You will probably have to adjust the EQ settings to get the maximum out of them for certain types of music. It has trademark Sony Bass which does not feel overpowered and it can get pretty loud (but definitely not the loudest headphones ever). Noise cancellation is top-notch but I did not feel a lot of difference between my friend's XM3 and my XM4. Battery ---------- Good but..... So Sony advertised that these headphones can go on for 38h without NC and 30h with NC. What they did not tell you was that you will have to turn-off all the additional features to go that far. Even with everything turned off, I have never been able to get more than 20h from these headphones. Charging is OK but they claim to offer 5 hours of charging with 10 minutes of charge. This has to be the biggest scam of this century! 10 mins of charge would probably last 1-2 hours with music. Connectivity ------------------ Nice. It is really good to finally see dual connectivity in these headphones. You can seamlessly switch between listening to music on your laptop and then switching to your phone to take a call. Connecting to multiple devices is easy but not bug-free. Many a time the Sony app on my phone will not be able to find the headphones but I found it easier to connect them to PC. My guess is that the mobile app (like many other features) is probably buggy. The range is quite decent and you can roam around within 30 ft without any issues. Calling ---------- Trash. Though Sony added more mics to XM4, the calling is still pretty bad. I understand calling has never been a forte of wireless earphones/headphones but I hate to see that my $30 Chinese Bluetooth earphones have better call quality than $350 XM4. These are notorious for picking background noises when you are on call and I wish there was some sort of ambient noise cancellation for the mic. Other Features --------------------- Design - There is literally no upgrade when it comes to the design of XM4. I mean wouldn't you be disappointed when your friend with XM3 walks up to you and just says, "Oh, I see you also got the XM3. Hmm, nice". And you're like these are XM4 and they are like "Whatever, they just look like XM3 meh". Touch/Swipe control - Oh boy, it is such a hit or miss. I have still not figured out a way to do things with 100% accuracy. Sometimes I will just keep tapping to pause the music or swipe to change the music but nothing really happens. Did I mention how slow the gesture recognition is? Wear detection - A big hit or miss. Sony shows how bad their software is with this feature. I'm pretty sure the hardware sensors, accelerometers are good but their Machine Learning models have not been trained well to detect the action. When it works it feels like such a charm but when it does not work it gets very frustrating. Comfort - Good. You can easily go 4 hours without feeling the fatigue. Sony added 15% more cushioning and I do not know how big a difference that has made. I have average-sized ears and I feel that they start putting pressure on my ears after 3-4 hours. 360 Reality Audio - An amazing feature which I will probably never get to use. Case - LOL, the case looks so not premium. Not that it matters too much but it would be nice to have a leather or a case with a premium finish for this price. Side note - When I think about NC headphones I also think about people sitting around me. Just like how I do not want to hear them when listening to my music, I do not like them hearing my music either. It was sad to see that everyone around me complained about the sound leakage from these headphones.

They're okay... Battery life is great, I charge them maybe once a week. Sound quality is good -deep clear bass, with clear highs and lows BUT not as loud as I would like. Connection to my mac and phone is not good - every couple minutes the headphones will break up for a couple seconds. This got very annoying. The app is pretty clunky and the the touch controls on the headphones are subpar. Overall I can't say I recommend these headphones if you are an Apple person.

First, the good. The sound quality is incredible. ANC works great, audio sounds fantastic and crisp out of the box. Setup is simple (as long as you are using a single device; more on this in a moment) with either a phone or a computer. The headset is lightweight and easy to wear for hours at a time. Now the bad: The touch-sensitive buttons are bad. They regularly just didn't do anything. They're unintuitively designed and feel like a bargain-brand implementation of what is considered a high-end function. The headset mode vs headphone mode is also not great. There's no way to control side-tone in headset mode, which means that the great noise cancelling function is all but useless when using it as a headset (like meetings and phone calls). Also, not being able to turn the headset on while charging is ridiculous. I am an extremely heavy user (like 6-10 of active use per day), so charging while using is critical to me. Using the headset with multiple devices is great if those devices are computers, but terrible if one is a phone. If you get a phone call while using it on a computer, the phone call takes over (without the ability to override this that I am aware of). Then to reconnect to the computer the only way I've got it to work is to turn the headphone off and on again. When I'm in the middle of a meeting, this is not ideal. If you care about audio quality above all else, it's easy to recommend, but overall usability makes this difficult to recommend to most people, especially for the premium price.

I don't usually write reviews, but the experience I've had with these warrant writing a review. Buyer beware. Pros: (when they work): Unmatched noise cancellation Decent call quality Most comfortable pair of headphones I've worn. I often use them 10 - 12 hours a day in the office. Great app and features Really good sounding with music, with customizations through the EQ. If you have a device that supports LDAC, higher quality wireless audio Great battery life Cons: Quality, Quality, Quality! It took three pairs of headphones initially before I got one that worked correctly (the first two pairs failed within the 30 day return window). My 3rd pair has recently developed a nasty bug that requires a warranty replacement. That's 4 pairs of headphones *in one year* I work in an open office plan, and these are my go-to headphones for comfort, noise cancellation and making calls. If they weren't soooo good when they work, I would have abandoned these long ago. Prior to owning these, I used the Sony WH-1000xm3 headphones for almost two years. That entire time I didn't have any issues, and they were still in great shape after 2 years. I wish Sony could figure out the quality issue on these. When they work, they are the greatest wireless headphones I've every used. However, when they glitch they aren't using even if they were provided at no cost. It's the Best and Worst experience all in a single pair of headphones.

I have been a sennheiser fan for a very long time and have owned each momentum model (wired and wireless) and have tried many other brands of wireless and found few that match sennheiser. This review is about Sony, so I decided to try something different and ordered the XM4. They are great noise cancelling headphones, great features, very comfy and nice looking. I fired them up and was surprised at the lack of clarity, crispness and sound stage. I tried to eq them and they sounded a little better. So they impress me as great noise cancelling headphones that can sound OK and have solid build and great features. There are a safe bet if you fly a lot and need maximum ANC, but the Bose 700 offer equal ANC and sound much cleaner with nice bass. There is something magical about the sennheiser sound that makes you want to listen to music when you should be doing something else or asleep. I am an old guy but like good rap and the bass on the m3 is perfect, rock the same, the richness of the sound and the majestic sound stage are just a cut above any other ANC headphone I've listened too and I've tried them all. The Sony m4 is a excellent noise cancelling headphone with great features and comfortable fit for a fair price, but if you really like music, give the momentum 3 a spin, you won't be sorry because they will take you a happy place that will make you a more content person, I promise.

I purchase these headphones wanting the spatial audio feature. These as told by the Best Buy geek squad has 360 audio and not spatial audio and they are not the same thing. These headphones seem to focus more on the noise cancellation which work’s absolutely fantastic they muffle so much noise even before you ever even turn on the noise cancellation function. But again that isn’t why I had bought them. The 360 audio only work with 7 different music apps that they recommend to you and (it might work with more was too frustrated to look into all of what other apps, but it has you picking from the 7) which you have to actually pay for a subscription so if your trying to get these headphones for the spatial audio feature go with beats instead. In conclusion they are wonderful if noise cancellations is what you are looking for but do not provide the spatial audio AND.. they give you this short little baby sized cord to charge your headphones with I used my remote as reference but like come on it’s not even a foot long

I’ve been a Bose and Apple guy. Then I bought Sony. I’m a fan of Sony. But the Bluetooth connection on this headset keeps dropping. It’s not as intelligent as Bose when automatically switching between my phone and fire tv. The touch controls were annoying, I had to disable it so now I can only control the volume via my phone or tv - but worth it to remove the annoying feature. Sound quality is better than Bose but not by much (q35). It’s tighter than my Bose and pressing on my ear so I have to take a break when wearing. Noise canceling is better in Bose. Great to wear if you have glasses.

Hi Rion,
We are glad we could earn you as a fan and that you recognize the superior sound quality of the WH-1000XM4 headset! We apologize for the issues you are experiencing with the Bluetooth connection dropping and the multipoint switching not being as seamless as you'd like; this is often linked to the "Prioritize Sound Quality" setting, and we recommend changing it to "Prioritize Stable Connection" in the Sony | Headphones Connect app to improve connection reliability. Regarding comfort, the clamping force is a design element for optimal acoustic sealing and Noise Cancelling performance, but we are sorry to hear it feels tight. Your decision to disable the touch controls is a valid way to customize your experience. If the disconnection issues persist after changing the setting, please ensure your headset firmware is up to date, or contact Sony Product Support at 1-800-222-7669 for dedicated troubleshooting.
Thanks for choosing Sony.
Best regards, Eliab

They are good everyday headphones but their price is not appropriate considering they are 2 generations behind. They are good at being convenience headphones - good battery life, weight, durable, ANC, connection chaining. They aren't the best sounding headphones in this price bracket if thats what you want
