The Sony Wireless Noise Cancelling headset is a great, lightweight headset, that wont leave you with a headache and will offer you superb sound that will leave you feeling like you were there live. The noise cancelling feature on the other hand left me desiring more as it lacked the ability to hold up to its predecessors. Lets get the basics out of the way. Out of the box you will find that you will need to provide your own charging block but the usb-c cable is provided. Full charge was accomplished within about an hour time and a full charge so far has yielded me about 40 hours of runtime while still maintaining 30% life left. Through the provided free app you get all the features you would expect to see such as a equalizer, action button mapping, noise cancelling settings and so forth. The first thing i noticed when pulling this unit out of the box was how incredibly light this headset is. I mean it is so slight it almost feels flimsy and cheap like its going to break however the chassis is pretty soft and somewhat flexible. Hours of runtime provide so much comfort that i almost forget that i am wearing a headset. What i really want to talk about next is the noise cancelling feature. So to give some perspective i have 2 other Sony noise cancelling headset so im comparing this feature truly to its predecessors as i feel that's a fair comparison to make. The noise cancelling feature on this headset is average at best and nothing more than that. Yes this headset try's to implement some A.I features to help zone out unwanted noises during phone calls which allows for voice clarity, which works remarkably well and provides better voice quality than my own cellphone in my opinion. However it falls flat on its face in the noise cancelling department. While there is a noticeable change when switching from ambient sound to noise cancelling so much noise pollution still bleeds through. If you are the type of person that likes to grab a book and read while at a coffee shop or maybe on the bus/subway ride home, your going to find that voices bleed through and full conversations can still be heard. While the roar of a jet engine from an airplane or the loud diesel engine from a city bus may be muffled out voices are not. I know enough to know your never going to get complete silence but on my previous Sony headsets voices are heavily muffled and are blocked out so well that it never takes away from me whatever i may be currently doing. I personally feel that the chassis, as light as it is, also serves as its downfall in the noise department. More surface area leads to more sound blockage and less surface area allows for easier sound penetration in my opinion. Even with adaptative sound control on, this did nothing to help the situation. I found that most times i didn't need to use the adaptive feature to turn off my sound controls when someone was talking directly to me due to the simple fact that i could still hear them with noise cancelling on. This is my only gripe with this headset especially since it's being marketed as such. Now the sound quality on the other hand, man that's where this unit really shines. One thing i love about Sony is their attention to detail when it comes to ensuring all sounds come through with crystal clear quality. Now out of the box i will say the default setting is horrible and you will 100% need to use the provided free app to dial in your EQ settings. Once i dialed in my settings to cater to my taste my music popped with such clarity that my current tunes gave me chills as they sounded different when put under a different microscope so to say. My mids and bass came in so well balanced and never took from my vocals. The fact that it was able to balance everything so perfectly with no distortion or drop outs was nothing short of impressive. Sony in my opinion earned their right to call themselves thee top competitor in this market and the headset is a testimony to that. One thing i do wanna say is that for people of heavy bass in the way of hip-hop/rap, keep in mind that the quality is good but it does not hit hard. Your not going to feel the drivers push the bass to the point of causing the speakers to reverberate inside the headset, so just one thing to keep in mind. At the end of the day this headset is awesome and provides some phenomenal voice quality when taking a phone calls or google meets. The sound quality of your music is insanely good once dialed in to your style of listening. The only reason (and i mean only reason) this does not get five stars is the noise cancelling, while still decent, is not the best in its current line up. When marketed as noise cancelling you really need to ensure it doesn't get outplayed by its older predecessors. Other than that, still a awesome buy thats worth it.

Thank you for the feedback, Crasher!
We are so glad to hear that you are loving the lightweight comfort, the amazing battery life, and how incredible your music sounds once you get that equalizer dialed in. We also really appreciate you calling out your thoughts on the noise cancellation compared to our older models. We want these to block out the world just as well as they sound, so we are definitely passing your notes along to our engineering team to look into for future tweaks.
Thank you for choosing Sony!

I really like seeing Sony offer a pair of over-ear wireless noise-canceling headphones in the new WH-CH730N for under $200. Sony has always been a company I've associated with quality audio products, and the WH-CH730N gives you a way to get into Sony's wireless noise-canceling headphones ecosystem without spending several hundred dollars, and after spending some time with them, I think Sony did a really good job balancing the features, comfort, and price. The first thing I noticed about the WH-CH730N is how well Sony balanced the overall size and weight. They don't feel overly bulky on my head, but they also don't feel like Sony cut corners just to make them lightweight. They have a good fit on my head, and the adjustable headband gives me plenty of room to get the right fit. I think the headband should fit most head sizes without an issue. Once adjusted, the earcups sit comfortably around my ears and create a good seal, which is important not only for comfort but also for getting the most out of the noise cancellation. The earcups and headband both have soft cushioning, and one thing I've really liked is that I haven't had an issue with them getting excessively hot or sweaty while wearing them for longer periods. Some over-ear headphones can get pretty warm after wearing them for a while, but that hasn't been a problem for myself with these. I liked to see that the headphones can fold up and swivel and lay flat on your chest, making them much easier to take with me on the go. When folded, they don't take up a ton of space and should fit into most backpacks, laptop bags, or travel bags. My one complaint is that Sony doesn't include a travel case. Since these are clearly designed with portability in mind, I think a basic hard or soft case would have been a nice addition to protect them while they're in a bag. It's not a deal breaker, but it's something I would have liked to see included. The active noise cancellation is another area where the WH-CH730N shines really well for the price. I wasn't expecting the same level of ANC that I would get from a much more expensive flagship pair of headphones, but for a sub $200 pair, Sony has done a really good job. The noise cancellation does a good job reducing the constant background noise around me such as fans and random background noises and makes it easier to focus on whatever I'm listening to. I also really like how easy it is to switch between Noise Canceling and Ambient Sound. It also has a NC/AMB button on the right earcup, that allows you to switch between the two modes without having to change it in the app. The ambient sound works really well when you need to hear what's happening around you or if someone is trying to talk to you while I'm wearing the headphones. There is one thing I should note: people with larger ears should be aware of. If you have slightly larger ears, I noticed that the ANC microphone inside the earcup sticks out slightly, rather than sitting flush with the speaker housing. Because of that, my right ear will occasionally rub against the microphone. It doesn't happen all the time and it hasn't made the headphones uncomfortable overall, but I did notice it after wearing them for a while. So, if you have larger ears, it's something to keep in mind because the way your ears sit inside the earcups could make a difference. Sony also did a good job with having physical controls. The power button doubles as the Bluetooth pairing button, so when I want to connect the headphones to a new device, I can simply hold down the power button to put them into pairing mode. There are also dedicated volume up and volume down buttons and a play/pause button, so I'm not relying on touch controls. I personally like having physical buttons because they're easy to find by feel when I'm wearing the headphones. The NC/AMB button can also be customized through Sony's app, including setting up double or triple-tap actions to launch a supported music streaming service. It's a small feature, but I like having the ability to customize what the buttons do instead of being locked into Sony's default setup. Battery life is another strong point. Sony rates these for up to 50 hours of battery life, and that's with noise cancellation enabled. Actual battery life will obviously depend on how I use them and what features I have enabled, but having up to 50 hours available is impressive for headphones in this price range. I would also recommend downloading the Sony Sound Connect app if you pick these up because that's where you really can get the most out of the headphones. The app allows you to adjust the EQ, customize different settings, manage the ANC and ambient sound, change button functions, and configure other settings. The custom EQ is a feature I appreciate, because I customize the sound profile to my liking. If I want a little more bass, some more treble, or a different overall balance. Pros Lightweight design Comfortable over-ear fit Soft earcup and headband Great active noise cancellation Physical buttons Up to 50 hours of battery life Custom EQ in the app Cons No travel case ANC microphone inside the earcup can rub against larger ears Overall, I think the Sony WH-CH730N is a solid choice if you're looking for a pair of over-ear wireless headphones with ANC without spending $400 or $500. I really liked how lightweight and comfortable they are, and just how good the ANC is. Sony did a great job of balancing the price to performance and you're getting a lot here for under $200. These feel like headphones that could easily compete with more expensive models while still being affordable and I highly recommend them.

Thank you for the detailed review, Ian L!
We are so glad to hear that the lightweight design, breathable ear cushions, and solid active noise cancellation are giving you great value for the price. It is also awesome to know that the physical control layout and that massive 50-hour battery life are keeping things convenient for your daily listening.
We totally hear you on the missing travel case in the box and the feedback about the interior ANC microphone potentially brushing against larger ears. We are passing your notes along to our product and engineering teams to keep in mind.

The first thing that surprised me about the Sony WH-CH730N headphones is how light they feel. They almost disappear on my head, which makes them much more comfy for long sessions and travel than many over-ear noise-canceling headphones that have more tech inside. They fold farely compact for travel and are supposed to last for 50 hours of playback with noise canceling on, so they are built for people who want to wear them for extended stretches rather than take them off after an hour. I don't know where the battery life comes from because they are so so light. Sound and noise canceling The sound is quite good for headphones at this value level. These are not audiophile headphones, especially with ANC engaged, but they deliver an enjoyable, generally balanced presentation instead of trying to win you over with exaggerated bass. That works well for the music and content I listen to, where clarity and balance matter more than having every track turned into a bass demonstration. I was happiest using a very mild curved EQ: a small lift to the lows and highs while leaving the mids essentially centered. Sony’s Sound Connect app provides EQ controls, so it is easy to tailor the sound without making the headphones feel unnatural. The active noise cancellation is sufficient and useful. I took these through an airport, and they did a good job reducing the general roar and background noise, which meant I did not have to turn the volume up just to hear my content. Sony does a respectable job for this class of headphone. Still, voice reduction was less effective than I would have liked. That is where the more sophisticated processing in Sony’s higher-end lineup likely earns its price premium. ANC is very very subjective. Sometimes ANC can make you dizzy when traveling in planes and trains, so be sure you try each brands' ANC yourself. Ambient mode needs refinement Ambient Sound Mode is useful in principle because it is meant to let you hear announcements and conversations without taking off the headphones. Sony provides adjustable ambient-sound levels and voice passthrough for that purpose. In my experience, though, I heard a whine at certain passthrough settings. Lowering the level made the whine go away, but that also reduces the usefulness of ambient mode in the exact scenario where I need it most—walking through an airport and trying to hear boarding, gate changes, or a group number. It is not a fatal issue, but it is the clearest performance compromise I noticed. Real buttons are a win I am very, very, very very very happy Sony used actual buttons. Volume, playback, calls, noise-control functions, and assistant access are handled with tactile controls rather than making everything a swipe or tap gesture. That may sound like a small thing, but it makes a major practical difference. I do not enjoy touch controls on headphones, particularly while traveling, wearing a hood, or trying to make an adjustment without taking the headphones off. With physical buttons, I know what I am pressing and get consistent feedback every time. This is one of the strongest parts of the overall user experience. The missing case There is always one thing, and here it is the lack of a travel case. These foldable headphones are clearly meant to go places, yet Sony does not include a protective pouch or case. For a modest increase in price, I think Sony could have included at least a basic hard or semi-hard case. It would make a real difference for protecting white headphones in a backpack, carry-on, or work bag and it would complete the purchase. Overall I am impressed with these. They are extraordinarily light, comfortable, nicely balanced for everyday listening, and equipped with ANC that genuinely helps in noisy spaces. The physical buttons are excellent, and the long battery life makes them a very practical travel and daily-use option. The tradeoffs are appropriate for the price: voice isolation is not flagship-level, ambient passthrough can have an annoying whine at higher settings, and the lack of a case is a frustrating omission. But if you want comfortable, balanced, lightweight Sony ANC headphones—and do not need premium-tier noise processing—these are an easy to buy. RECOMMENDED!

Headphones are good quality but 2 major issue with accessories listed here - 1) No USB C charging cable included 2) Headphone jack included instead which is completely useless especially with iPhone. I am surprised how can headphone box read “made for iPhone” when latest iPhone models do not support headphone jack? That is the question to Sony and feedback to bring these headphones up to speed in terms of accessories compatible with latest iPhone models and advertise honestly per the specifications. Satisfied with headphones themselves but not with the package holistically. Thank you!

I enjoy listening to music, so my collection of headphones has grown over the years. Now I get to add this new Sony WH-CH730N pair to my rotation. Here are some pros & cons, with the full writeup to follow. Good: Easy pairing 3.5mm port (no charge needed) Multi point pairing Bluetooth sound profiles Good bluetooth audio sync with TV Great TV audio clarity / Decent base EQ settings for TV Noise cancelling / hear through modes Weight Call Audio / Zoom Physical Buttons Battery Life Comfort Meh: Smaller ear cups 3.5mm port audio quality Sony App After unboxing the WH-CH730Ns, I found them to be very light, had good adjustments for head size and the ear cups can be turned flat and inward for ease of carry. I found the ear cups to be good, but on the smaller side compared to other Sony models I have. Also, in being so light, they also have a feel that reminds me of other less expensive Sony headphones - not at all like the XM5s. After charging them fully before first use (I do this for everything), my S26 Ultra noticed the headphones and prompted me to make a seamless pairing and then I used my already installed Sony SoundConnect App to manipulate a lot of the features that I’ve listed above. Pairing in general was never a problem, regardless of what I was connecting to. I noticed the 3.5mm jack on the side of these headphones, so I decided to see how it sounded connected to my MacBook Air’s headphone jack. There isn’t a power need using that port, however I found the sound pretty muddy - like I was outside the door to a concert, vs being in the same room. Running it through a DAC, I was able to EQ it to sound better, but the natural 3.5mm sound to me, wasn’t great - but would do in a pinch. When switched over to Bluetooth with no software EQ, it was much better and I found the native EQ (no EQ) to be sufficient in most situations, but the EQ style names seemed odd to me - not Rock/Jazz/R&B, but “hard/soft/clear.” Enabling DSEE helped with some sound enhancement for the music and made it a little less muddy, which you can tell for sure compared to the wired port that can’t have that “electronic” feature. Using the SoundConnect App has its benefits, though I was getting prompted to update firmware of the WH-CH730Ns but couldn’t ever figure out how to actually do that. In device settings, it can be a bit overwhelming to see all of the options but going through them individually shows just how much customization there can be. Quick access to Spotify, Youtube Music, Google Assistant, etc are all able to be made the way you like it. Physical click buttons made navigation of volume up/down music play/pause and power on/off easy and with quick access to NC/hear through, you don’t have to fiddle with an App to make changes. With multi-point pairing and watching TV with these headphones, my show would pause when the headphones cut over to play a notification sound from my phone. Not sure this mode is really worth it for me. But back to TV listening, I found the native bluetooth EQ to be perfect for any show - good clarity and sound all around and the timing was always in-sync; I never saw a delay in words or anything that made me need to reboot/re-pair the headphones. Also, I could wear them for hours without needing a break due to fit, them being too warm or the top of my head hurting. I found the noise cancellation to be pretty good and caused me to miss a few calls (was paired to my computer) – and the hear-through style mode also met my expectation for doing a good job, given I have used hear-through / ambient settings in both headphones and earbuds alike. As for call clarity, I used them on a few Zoom meetings that were recorded and was able to play it back to hear how I sounded and wow, they really do sound good. Using the noise cancellation for focus and the microphones do have the ability to drown out the sound of me typing loudly on my keyboard and tapping on my desk all while talking … I was and continue to be really impressed here. Lastly, battery life. Yes - huge battery life. I watched TV for almost a week at night without having to charge them and brought them wherever I went throughout the day. Recommended!

We are so glad to hear the WH-CH730N have earned a solid spot in your rotation with their incredible battery life, lightweight comfort, clear TV audio, and surprisingly great microphone performance for Zoom calls. It is awesome to know that features like multipoint, easy Bluetooth pairing, and physical buttons are making your daily listening smooth and effortless.
We also really appreciate your candid notes on the 3.5mm wired sound quality, the ear cup sizing compared to our higher end models, and the firmware update prompt inside the Sound Connect app. We want every part of the experience to feel top tier, so we are passing your notes along to our engineering and app development teams to keep in mind for future updates and designs.

I've had the chance to use the Sony WH-CH730N headphones for about two weeks now, both at work and during a trip to Paris, at the gym, and around the house. So, I can say I have been able to see how they fit into my everyday routine. With that said, they performed better than I expected. DESIGN AND BUILD - First off, let me say how surprised I was by how lightweight these headphones feel. It was such a treat to pick them up for the first time. Wearing them for long periods was just as good, and they didn’t feel heavy or press too harshly against my ears. True to traditional Sony design, they are simple and modern, just like other Sony headphones I’ve seen. (These are my first pair, though!) The ear cushions are soft and comfy, making long listening a breeze. I didn’t have any issues wearing them on my recent flight to Paris, at the gym, or just at the office doing some work. I appreciate the physical buttons for volume, playback, and active noise cancellation, and of course the USB-C charging port. There is also a 3.5mm analog audio jack, which makes it easy to connect them the old-school way to computers for sure connectivity, or if you just want to save on battery life. NOISE CANCELLATION - When it comes to ANC, these headphones block out enough background noise for me to stay focused on whatever I’m doing or listening to. The Ambient Sound Mode is also great for adjusting how much voice and ambient noise passes through, so I can stay aware of what's going on around me without taking the headphones off. Probably one of my favorite features. It reminds me of my Apple AirPods Pro. SOUND QUALITY - When it comes to sound, I would say it is warm and balanced. Call quality is about the same, with voice coming through clearly both ways. It is worth noting that the Sony Sound Connect app is almost a must for personalizing your experience with the headphones. You can control noise, ambient sound quality, and EQ settings. The EQ presets aren't that great, but you can customize your settings as you see fit. Overall, out of the box, these headphones are not going to be super bassy if that is something you are searching for, but you will have to tweak the EQ to get to where you want. If you want super bassy headphones, Beats are definitely where it’s at. BATTERY - While these are rated between 50 and 75 hours of use, depending on your use of ANC, I can say that these probably meet that. I have not kept a timer on my usage, but I have used these for a couple of days, off and on, through various activities, and they have kept up with my lifestyle with no problem. OVERALL - For the price, the Sony WH‑CH730N strikes a great balance between looks (which, let's face it, is super important) and performance (sound, ANC, and battery). If you're considering picking these up, I think you'd be pretty pleased with them. I have!

I have been very pleased with these headphones! Sony has once again delivered a set of headphones in 2026 that are within the reach of the average consumer and offer many excellent flagship features, such as high-end active noise cancellation (ANC), great ambient audio, and even some smart features sure to interest many users! The set I received is pink, more of a rich, matte rose gold that is bound to please buyers interested in such colors. These headphones were packaged in very environmentally friendly paper and cardboard, with nearly every element appearing to be recyclable and not full of materials that will take thousands of years to decompose in a landfill. Setup was extremely easy, with a standard Bluetooth connection to my iPhone 14 Pro establishing immediately upon turning it on after selecting it in my Bluetooth settings. Since I already had the Sony Connect app installed on my phone for my Sony ULT 7 Tower Speaker, the app recognized these headphones immediately, which gave me advanced controls I will discuss soon. I will cover a couple of the most important elements first: the listening experience and external noise-filtering features. The audio quality on this headset is fantastic. The natural EQ balance out of the box on these is bound to please most users of the target audience who are looking for a good headphone experience at a reasonable price. The bass is not bone-jarring or over-emphasized, nor are the trebles ignored or exaggerated. The sound is just balanced and pleasing. I found my usual playlists of mixed modern artists like Ed Sheeran, Shaboozy, and Alex Warren to be pleasing to listen to and engage with. Some of my more bass-heavy playlists with artists like Skrillex and Bass Hunter were enjoyable in the Heavy EQ mode selected in the Sony Connect settings, but these headphones definitely did not cover the full range of bass the songs can produce. Overall, the listening experience is what I would have expected from a headset at this price in the best intended way. The headset's noise-filtering features are among its most interesting, particularly if you decide to utilize the full scope of control that the Sony Connect app offers. The adaptive sound control is really cool and can switch between ANC and ambient based on your location, and it even adapts to you over time. The ambient sound control I appreciated most as it can allow voices in while suppressing noise, which is perfect if I am doing something like using my leaf blower intermittently and my wife calls out the door with a question. The headset is very lightweight and is so comfortable that it almost disappears while I am wearing it. The ear cups fit nicely and are breathable while forming a good seal, allowing ANC to work best in conjunction with physical noise isolation. I have had this headset for less than a week, and after the first charge and hours of listening, I have barely gotten past 85% charge! We are in such a great age for wireless headphones, and the fact that the battery can be topped off so quickly is a huge win. Altogether, I think that this headset is a winner. Whereas competitors in its price range, like the Skully Candy Active, might focus on the bass-heavy experience at the expense of a lot of other handy features, I think that this headset has a certain elegance and balance to it that is bound to please most users. Altogether, I give this headset an easy 5/5 stars. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy your purchase!

These Sony - WH-CH730N Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones are perfect for what they are supposed to do. That would be filling a role between Sony's entry line ANC Headphones and Sony's higher-end ANC heaxphones. And to fill this middle-weight void, these do a great job. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to test countless headphones. Everything from $50 value phones, clear up to $700+ flagship headphones. While these certainly can't compare to the higher-end units, and of course, it would be unfair to compare to the lower units, these a re a great choice. If you are looking for a fairly priced, consumer-tuned, ANC, comfortable set, with outstanding battery life, I reccomend. Sound quality is, as mentioned, consumer-tuned. Nice bass, bright mid's, crisp highs? Check. ANC? This is where Sony always just beats out most of it's competitor, (in that value band, of course), and again, these are an excellent choice. While the ANC does not compare ti higher end units, it shouldn't. For day-to-day use, travelling, gym, reading, the isolation is quite good. The ANC is tight, right, and bright. Battery life, as advertised, is great. I did not take a stop-watch to the review, but Sony has always been pretty spot-on, and I have no reason to doubt the claims. Phone call quality was excellent. I tested on my bike, while walking, and while driveing, and all environments were met like a pro. The user on the other end had no idea I was on a wireless unit. As for comfort, these are well desinged, quite light, and breathable. These would be perfect for long flights. As a closeout note, this unit, when combined with app, can provide a very nice spatial audio. It does a freat job at nearing even higher priced units in that regard. End of the day, I would reccomend to a friend!

The Sony WH-CH730N Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones are impressive. I didn't know what to think when I was opening the box because the packaging was surprisingly generic, but there was typical Sony quality sound packed inside. Though wireless, the headphones come with a standard right angle 3.5mm cable, should you desire to connect that way. Also included, is a "reference guide" - not to be confused with a User Guide. To get product user information (if you don't want to search online), you will need to download the Sony Sound Connect app to your phone because the software is only available for mobile devices (Android or iOS). However, you can still connect to your PC via bluetooth. And you are able to connect to two devices simultaneously, which is what I am doing, so that I can switch back and forth. They are charged via USB-C but a cable for that is NOT included, nor is a headphone case of any kind. I have plenty of USB-C cables on hand. Charging is very fast and Sony claims a full charge will last up to 50hrs with Noise Cancelling on and about 75hrs with it off. Pairing was very easy on both devices (iPhone and PC). The headphones come in pairing mode, but if you press the power button for about 7 seconds, you can manually put them in pairing mode if needed. That's it for setup! I find these headphones to be extremely lightweight, weighing in at ~207g, and quite comfortable for extended wear with the foam ear cushions - my ear actually goes inside a "cup" wrapped with the cushion, and the rose pink color makes them fun to wear. The sound is exactly what I would expect from Sony - and it got even better when I changed the equalizer settings in the app to better suit my taste - I enjoy less bass but more treble. There are pre-set modes for the equalizer as well as a choice for custom settings but all of them can be modified. When I got it the way I wanted, I cranked up the volume to see if there would be distortion and there was none! There are also settings for Adaptive Sound Control which you can set to automatically change if you are inside, outside walking, outside running or even in a vehicle. The noise cancelling feature works very well and is changed with a press of a button. I prefer noise cancelling on when I am home, but otherwise I really want to hear some ambient sounds - even if just for my safety when outside on a walk. When I receive calls or make calls, the multi-function button makes it super easy to do and the call quality on both ends is really very good. Another really cool feature is using the multi-function button to access my voice assistant - in my case, it is Siri. I ask her a lot of questions and I can tell her to play music and she automatically opens Spotify and plays my "liked songs" playlist. That same button is used to skip one song forward or back. And when I'm done using them for the day, I fold them up and put them in the drawer. Overall, I love these Sony WH-CH730N Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones. Could the sound be improved? Of course, if they were trying to make a higher-end headphone. But that's not what they are doing here. The sound is very good - I can hear the treble and bass and it is clear, with no distortion even at very high volume (PSA - don't turn them up too high. You don't want to damage your eardrum). These have added features like the user friendly equalizer and noise canceling. I can wear these for hours day after day without needing to charge them. They are very lightweight and so comfortable. I would highly recommend the Sony WH-CH730N Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones to anyone looking for some good headphones.

Hi BBReviewer!
Thank you so much for the wonderful review!
It is truly wonderful to know that you love the lightweight comfort, clear distortion-free sound, and color of your new Sony WH-CH730N headphones. We are glad that the multipoint connection makes switching between your phone and PC seamless, and that the custom equalizer settings let you dial in the treble exactly how you like it.
We have also noted your comments about the generic packaging and the lack of an included charging cable or carrying case.
It’s a pleasure having you as a Sony customer!

When I got these headphones and was holding the box, my first thought was, is anything even in there. The box was so light, LOL. But after opening it, I realized that Sony went with a minimalistic approach in packaging, which in my opinion was a great idea. I hate trying to go through unnecessary things that I will eventually just lose or throw away. Inside, you will find the headphones, a usb-c cable and a small pamphlet. The headphones themselves are just wrapped in a soft cotton cloth, no case. That was surprising. Most headphones will include some kind of case but there was none included. Setup was easy. Download the app and turn on the headphones, your phone should automatically find the headphones. Now, for me, the most important thing about over the ear headphones is comfort. These pair are comfortable. I can wear them for an extended amount of time without fatigue. I don't get that sense of pressure on my head like a clamp, like I do with other headphones. The sound is absolutely incredible. Out the box, I was blown away about how great these sound and I know over time, it will get even better. And in the app, you can customize or use the presets. Speaking of customizing your eq, Sony gave you a lot more control of the sounds then most over headphones. So if you are particular about your sound, these headphones are for you. The ambient sound feature is probably the best I've ever used in any headphones and trust me, I've had a lot. The sounds coming from the outside is so natural and doesn't sound like it's recording, while your music or phone calls still comes through clearly. Call quality was near perfect. Even in the noisy gym, my caller never had a problem hearing me and even stated they didn't know I was in such a noisy environment. Now to the part I wasn't impressed with. The noise cancellation was a 7/10. It does not come close to the other high end headphones. It does not block out as much noise but I will say, I also don't get that pressure feeling when I activate it. That's what I always hated about noise cancellation, that pressure in your ears. I also don't like that the app has limited features and again, no case. All in all, I think Sony hit it out of the park with these headphone at this price. It gives you premium features and a very reasonable price and the Sony name, you know it's quality.

... these are incredible. Simply incredible! I have had the privilege of reviewing a fair share of headphones over the past three years with the Best Buy Tech Insider Network, and I will say the Sony WH-CH720N wireless headphones are the best I have reviewed for a multitude of reasons. Before I jump into the good stuff, I want to talk about the weight. For starters, I was pretty surprised by how light the package was in the mail; I thought it was a pack of batteries with a bunch of bubble wrap in the box. To my surprise, it was the latest Sony headphones to be released in 2024. Putting these wireless headphones on was even better. Most of the time, headphones are heavier to account for better bass response and audio quality, but Sony has managed to kill two birds with one stone. Not only are they lightweight and breathable, but the audio quality is off the charts. I typically use YouTube Music, but I decided to push the limits by using my Amazon Music Unlimited subscription for the Ultra HD and 360 Reality Audio. I played Teezo Touchdown’s “How Do You Sleep at Night?” and Maxwell’s “Urban Hang Suite” because they have a ton of panning and are both super dynamic mixes. The song “Ascension,” in particular, starts with bongos and hi-hats that surround you in ways that feel like standing in the middle of an intimate live concert. Instruments in the high, low, and mid-ranges have equal amounts of effectiveness with a truly immersive spatial soundscape. And we have only covered the sound quality. What also makes this piece of tech so impressive is the amount of features in the Sony Sound Connect app. The large variety of equalizer options (from heavy, clear, hard, soft, game, manual, to custom 1 and 2), Bluetooth connection quality settings, voice assistant options, noise canceling, listening modes, and more are an audiophile's dream. So, while these sound great out of the box, there is still so much room to personalize such great headphones. What is most surprising to me out of all this is that this is the mid-tier version. Even though I am reviewing this unit, I am super excited to go out and buy the higher-end unit because I cannot imagine the ceiling since I have already touched the roof. Thanks to the price point and the sound quality, I would definitely recommend these. 5/5

Thank you for the fantastic feedback, Drew B!
We are so glad to hear the lightweight design, immersive spatial sound staging, and the options inside the Sound Connect app are hitting the mark for you. Testing them out with dynamic tracks like Maxwell and Teezo Touchdown is such a great way to put those drivers through their paces, and it is awesome to know they held up like a champ.
We completely agree that getting this kind of performance out of our mid-tier lineup leaves a lot to look forward to upstairs, and we appreciate you shouting out the value.
Thank you for choosing Sony!

Sony's WH-CH730N is one of the most fully featured headsets for its price point and an excellent set of headsets for someone who is not a super serious audiophile or someone who has a child they want to get an affordable set of cans. Sony manages to package most of its high-end tech into these headsets at a great price point that often means sacrificing some features. The biggest surprise is that these headphones manage to add Active Noise Canceling into a sub-$200 pair of headphones. This is really a great surprise and the performance is similar to the former flagship 1000XM3 that are a few years old now. The headsets are super light and over the ear design and they are comfortable because they are not heavy and the memory foam on the head and earpads is sufficient. The design is clean and the buttons are easy to navigate. They are not touch activated they have physical buttons unlike the higher-end XM1000 series, which is fine because not everyone likes those touch and gesture buttons. These headsets are supposed to last 50 hours but with ANC that is considerably less. The Sony Sound Connect app has some neat features like the higher end units that allows you to allow location services so it can tell where you are and it also learns your routine so that the noise canceling automatically kicks in depending where you are. ANC is a must-have for anyone who rides on airplanes or trains frequently, even car rides or noisy environments they can help a LOT. Personally I have to have them on airplanes or it is hard for me to sleep or concentrate. The sound is good, very bass heavy and there is a basic equalizer you can set via the app. The headsets also have the ability to take a call hands-free and allow multi-point bluetooth connection. Pairing to my phone and laptop is great as I can use them at work and flip between my work laptop and my phone seamlessly. Sony did cut some corners however. These fold flat which is awesome, but they don't have a case. They also don't have a USB-C charging cable which is odd to me. They do have a 3.5mm jack to connect to devices with a wire. So overall pretty barebones. This pair will end up going to my daughter as it is perfect sized for her, has all the features but I'm not worried about giving her something super expensive she might destroy or lose as her first pair of headphones.

Hello TechBuyer,
Thank you for choosing Sony!
We're excited to hear that the WH-CH730N offers an impressive combination of features, comfort, and value. We appreciate your detailed feedback on the lightweight over-ear design, memory-foam padding, physical controls, Active Noise Canceling, bass-forward sound, app-based equalizer, hands-free calling, and multipoint Bluetooth connectivity. We’re especially glad to hear how useful the ANC is for travel and noisy environments and that switching seamlessly between your phone and laptop has worked well for you.
We also appreciate your comments on battery life with ANC enabled, the location and routine-based app features, the fold-flat design, 3.5mm connection, and the absence of an included case and USB-C charging cable. It’s wonderful to hear that the WH-CH730N will be passed along to your daughter as an affordable, comfortable first pair of headphones. Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful and well-rounded review.

The Sony brand has become synonymous with high quality headphones (with questionable naming conventions). Still, when it comes to audio, the Sony WH-CH730N are quality headphones. Outside of that, they have their issues. Starting with the opportunities for improvement, while I understand the value of lightweight headphones, (which, Sony advertises this headset comes in at 207g) there is sometimes a conneciton, right or wrong, made with weight and build quality. I say that to say, these headphones feel like they were built out of cheaper, weaker materials. No, you don't buy headphones to bend them backwards, but any bend of the headband makes me feel a little nervous regarding durability. When it comes to what most people care the most about with headphones, the Sony - WH- HC730N largely fit the bill. The noise cancellation is solid without decreased overall volume, which is an issue I've had with some noise cancellation headphones. The bass is heavy, without being overly bass heavy. That's without using the Sony Sound Connect app and it's equilizer. Using the equilizer provided less than ideal results, but that could be due to my lack of skills with that specific feature. The standard audio presets seemed to work well with music. Watching entertainment from streaming apps the audio seemed even better. As someone who's normally not huge on watching entertainment on my phone (outside of perhaps an airport/airplane) the audio quality using these headphones made my foldable phone a. lot more appealing as a streaming device. Yes, the audio quality on the Sony - WH- CH730N is great. As someone more accustom to heavier, more "solid" headphones, the build quality feels a little questionable to me. It may not be an issue for others, and ultimately we're here for the sound, right? With that said, I'd easily recommend these for most in the market.

I was honestly expecting a little more from these Sony WH-CH730N headphones. They are really lightweight, which I do like because they don’t feel heavy on my head. The connection was also super easy and pretty much seamless. I didn’t have any issues getting them connected, and the Sony app has some nice options that let you adjust different settings and customize the sound. The noise cancelling is decent. I use them at the gym and they do a good job of drowning out some of the background noise, which is nice when there are a lot of people around or music playing. They definitely help, but I wouldn’t say the noise cancelling is anything that really impressed me. My biggest issue is that the headphones just don’t feel as good quality as I expected. They’re lightweight, which is a plus, but they also feel a little cheaper because of that. I guess I was expecting more from Sony in that area. The other thing that really bothers me is how hot my ears get while wearing them. After having them on for a while, my ears start getting sweaty, and that’s not something I want when I’m at the gym. It’s also annoying when I’m just cleaning around the house and want to listen to something for a longer period of time. I end up wanting to take them off instead of keeping them on. I do like the app, though. It gives you some good options and makes it easy to change the settings. The connection is also one of the better parts because I didn’t have to fight with it to get everything working. Overall, these are just okay for me. They work, they’re lightweight, they connect easily, and the noise cancelling does a decent job, but I wasn’t really impressed with them. The lower-quality feel and the fact that my ears get hot and sweaty are the biggest issues for me. I think they could be good for someone who wants a lightweight pair of headphones for basic everyday use, but personally, I was expecting a little more from these.

Hello AsiaLovely1,
Thank you for choosing Sony!
We're excited to hear that you appreciate the lightweight design, seamless connection, easy-to-use app customization, and the gym-friendly noise cancellation!
However, we are genuinely sorry to hear about the issues you experienced regarding the build quality feeling less durable and the heat buildup causing discomfort during longer listening sessions. This is certainly not up to the quality standards we strive for, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We truly value your honest perspective, as it helps us build better gear for your workouts and daily routines.

Having tried a lot of other noise cancelling, over the ear headsets in the past few years, I came into this review expecting to say the same thing I normally do. That being - ehhh; they’re alright. The good news is that I was pleasantly surprised by their performance at just what I need - blocking out the outside world, and also in how they handle the day to day work stuff like conference calls. There is a pretty comprehensive feature set here, but one of my favorites is that when you install the Sony Sound Control app you unlock the ability to customize the EQ settings or use the multiple available presets. This headset can get impressively loud, but without some adjustment you’re not going to love the sound - especially depending on your musical genre of choice. A quick adjustment here and there means you’re not just getting the highs and lows, but the filling sound that you’d want and expect from over the ear units. My only reason for rating four stars is that as much as Sony thinks their buttons are intuitive they just aren’t. I don’t know that any company has really gotten this right, but the buttons are all pretty nondescript and it’s hard to remember the tap tap tap that’s required on one when you’re trying to do something. I found myself just reaching for my phone instead. All in all I’d say if you want a good mid-price set of noise cancelling headphones that outperform in both volume and noise cancellation, these are worth a listen!

I think Sony has done a fantastic job creating great every day headphones. The CH730N’s are the perfect in between budget and flagship sound and noise canceling while still being stylish, comfortable, and delivering great sound and noise canceling features. For these headphones, Sony created a light weight design that comes in sleek and stylish with only a few tradeoffs to get there. The ear cuffs housing is low profile so it doesn’t stick out from the side of your head which I really like. While made of mostly plastic, likely to achieve the light weight feel, It doesn’t look cheap, and the beige color that I have is stylish and works in any setting. I can appreciate the soft squishy ear cuffs which help with skin fatigue when wearing for hours. Buttons are intuitive to reach. I find myself using my thumb to push all the buttons, like gripping a ball with my fingertips, I just find it easier to reach the buttons this way. They’re tactile and response, although, I find the play/pause button between the volume up and down takes a while to not accidently press when searching for the volume. These do fold up and will probably slip easily in a string bag or the pocket of a backpack. Unfortunately it does not come with a case in the box so if you’re concerned with them getting bumped around, bent in ways they shouldn’t be, you may want purchase a hard case to put them in. They do lay fairly flat when just turned in, so that’s an option as well. There’s a lot to talk about when discussing features. You get great entry level noise canceling with these headphones. I found that, while not as strong or robust as Sony’s WH-1000 series headphones, it does a great job of toning down the outside sounds. If you need to dial in and get focused on a task, I feel like this is perfect for that. However, it’s not as strong as headphones where ANC is a focus, which I feel like requires additional microphones and processing which adds to the weight and diminishes battery life. Sony’s sound app is easy to navigate and customize settings and features. One of my favorite things that Sony does is provide a 10-point EQ for a heavier level of customization for your favorite sound profile, along with several presets. You can also adjust how much ambient noise comes through; basically how strong would you like your noise canceling to be? Ambient sound is not just ANC off; it uses external speakers to make sounds around you more natural. You can also choose not to use either ANC or Ambient sound if neither of these matter for you, leading to increased battery life, up to 75 hours! If you do use ANC, you’ll still get an impressive 50 hours. If you manage to use the batteries up and need to keep going, 3 minutes of charging will give you up to an hour of playback time. A few other impressive features is the multi point connection is on point. I have both my laptop and phone connected. I like to watch videos on my laptop but usually play music from my phone so switching back and forth depending on what I’m doing is as simple as pressing the play button on the device. Also, depending on what you’re listening to and from, you can turn on DSEE which helps upscale audio to bring out quality that is lost in compression. Finally I don’t want to leave out how these headphones sound. I think for the average listener, which is where I fall, will be very happy with the sound listening to music, movies, and videos. If you have an ear for details, you might find these to be a bit lacking on the low end. The bass, while there, isn’t quite as punchy as I’d like. You can tweak the EQ to make the bass stand out more, but doesn’t quite carry the same umph as a more premium headset. As for the other frequencies, I do think they’re just a tiny bit blended, but honestly you have to be nit picky for it to make a difference. I think these are a good buy if you’re looking for a work-horse headphone that has awesome battery life, low profile look with physical buttons and active noise canceling that helps lock in and get focused or you want to get lost in the sound. I thought that the lack of a case and average bass and ANC might be a turn off for some but there’s something to be said for excellent battery life and being enough that is probably just fine for the masses, which I think offsets the cons.

We totally hear you on the missing carrying case in the box, the lower-end bass response, and the buttons taking a little getting used to avoid accidental presses. We are passing your notes along to our product team to keep in mind.

The Sony WH-CH730N punches well above its weight class, balancing flagship-level conveniences with everyday comfort and serious battery endurance. Noise Cancellation & Ambient Sound Dual Noise Sensor ANC: Equipped with dual microphones on each ear cup, the active noise cancellation easily blocks out AC hums, coffee shop chatter, and commute drone. For this price tier, the isolation is remarkably effective. Ambient Sound Mode: Offers 20 fine-tuned adjustment levels alongside a dedicated Voice Passthrough setting, letting outside noise and conversations filter in naturally without needing to pull the headphones off. Comfort & Design Featherlight Build: Tipping the scales at roughly 207 grams, the chassis never feels heavy or clamps down aggressively on your head. Long-Session Ergonomics: The thermo-foamed ear cushions provide soft padding that makes all-day wear a breeze. Travel-Ready: Unlike earlier iterations, the foldable frame packs down small for tossing into a work bag or carry-on. Tactile Controls: Physical buttons handle media playback, volume, calls, and voice assistant access cleanly. While there is a slight learning curve to locating each control by touch, their tactile response is second nature once memorized. Sound Quality Dynamic Range: Audio delivery is crisp, balanced, and expansive, handling low-end rumble and bright highs cleanly without muddiness. DSEE & 360 Audio: Built-in Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) upscales compressed tracks to restore lost high-frequency detail, while 360 Reality Audio compatibility delivers a wide, immersive spatial soundstage. Call Quality Precise Voice Pickup: Dual beamforming microphones use AI-powered noise-reduction algorithms to isolate speech in noisy settings. Wind Resistance: Integrated mesh screens cut down on wind buffeting, keeping voice calls clear during windy outdoor walks. LE Audio & Connectivity Next-Gen LE Audio via App: Accessing LE Audio requires toggling connection settings inside the Sony | Sound Connect app. Switching the app's Bluetooth connection quality to prioritize low latency engages the LC3 codec, significantly cutting audio lag for streaming and gaming. Seamless Multipoint: The dual-device Bluetooth pairing works effortlessly, automatically switching between a laptop video call and incoming phone calls with zero connection drops. Battery Life: Packs a massive 50 hours of playback with ANC enabled (up to 75 hours with ANC off), backed by a 3-minute quick charge that restores up to 1 hour of listening time.

The last Bluetooth headphones I got were the Skullcandy Crusher 3.0. They sounded nice, but I was seriously disappointed by the design. After growing weary of handling them gently, I was back in the market for some new Bluetooth Headphones. I work from home so I was looking for headphones that have a standard level of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), and I didn't really see a need to get flagship level ANC. I was also looking for Over the Ear style ear cups. This brought me to the Sony WH-CH730N. In the box, you get the headphones and 3.5mm audio cable. There is no charging cable included. The headphones are wrapped in a cloth in the box, but there is no bag or case. However, I did find that they do fold up very nicely which is handy for when I do travel. On the left ear cup you get the power button, USB-C charging port and 3.5 mm audio jack. It also has an indicator light for power and Bluetooth. On the right ear cup, you get the volume up and down, a multi-function button and the Noise Cancellation, and Ambient noise passthrough button. I really appreciate physical buttons. The headband is metal based and I'm thankful it isn't cut in a way to cause a failure point like the Skullcandy Crusher 3.0 were designed. The pivot on the forks are very generous and fit very nicely to my head. It's what also makes this Sony headphones very comfortable even after a couple hours. Battery Life is reported to be 50 hours and after a few days, they seem to be holding up very well. They reportedly will charge pretty quickly where 3 minutes of charge can yield 1 hour of playback. Pairing these headphones to my phone was very easy. I already had the Sony Sound Connect App on my phone and these were recognized very easily. The Sound Connect app gives you some customizability for the multi-function button, EQ, EQ presets, and some basic immersive 360 sound. The sound out of the box was very pleasant, but I think I was missing just a little bit off the treble. Phone calls were handled with easy. However, if I use them for my work meetings, I would really like a way to use the multi-function button to mute. Instead, I have to use my computer for mute control. I actually like the Hard preset EQ. It has a little more bass and ticks up the treble a little bit. If you're looking for a premium headset without jumping into a flagship headphones, the WH-CH730N is a serious contender. They are comfortable, give you clear audio and provide a very nice ANC without having to pay double for the Flagship model and give you a long battery life.
