I first saw this movie at the theater upon its release. For the most part it has aged well, some spots not so much. The main plus of this edition is the addition of 17 minutes of footage which makes it the definitive Version. Bill Murray decides to be all that he can be -- and it ain't pretty -- in this hit comedy. John Winger (Murray) is a quick-witted but unambitious loser who comes home after getting fired to discover that his car has been repossessed and his girlfriend is leaving him. With no idea of what to do next, John and his best friend Russell Ziskey (Harold Ramis) impulsively join the Army, more as a practical joke than a career goal. John and Russell find themselves in basic training under the hard-nosed and impatient Sgt. Hulka (Warren Oates), who is stuck with an outfit of goofballs, including overweight Ox (John Candy), naive Cruiser (John Deihl), perpetually stoned Elmo (Judge Reinhold), and the appropriately-nicknamed Psycho (Conrad Dunn). The platoon succeeds in impressing the generals spite of themselves, and John and Russell even find time to romance two pretty female MPs, Stella (P.J. Soles) and Louise (Sean Young). However, when John and Russell commandeer a high-tech military vehicle for a European weekend getaway with the girls, they happen into Soviet territory and stumble into an international incident. Special Features include a commentary track and a two part documentary featuring interviews with the cast (including Bill Murray).. It's a real treat to see Murray, John Candy & Harold Ramis in their younger days and there are many laugh out loud moments. The Steeelbook itself has a very colorful, eye-catching look and is one of the Project Pop Art Limited edition series.

A comedic spin on Army life from the talents of Saturday Night Live. This was made during the early days of Bill Murray and Harold Ramis, directed by Ivan Reitman. It tells the story of two guys, who are going nowhere, decide to join the Army. From there, they experience the trials and tribulations of basic training. Barely passing their performance, the band of Army misfits are shipped to Italy on a secret mission. They are tasked to guard an armored carrier that, eventually, will be used to infiltrate a Soviet base. Later, upon returning to the US, the heroes are awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. It's a highly enjoyable film.

Remember seeing on the big screen but not the extended cut which is much better. Had to get the steelbook before they are gone.

This was a huge step up from the previous DVD I had. No DNR, mostly crisp picture (I'm sure the 4K version is better), and decent use of HDR colors. The artwork on the outside of the steelbook is very nice, however, was disappointed to see nothing whatsoever on the inside cover.

In one of Bill Murray's comedy movies of the '80s, we have the Blu-ray Steelbook edition. Artwork is pretty nice considering it is just the Blu-ray edition. We don't have a digital copy with this one though, but perhaps in the future we will get a 4K edition with a digital copy. The Blu-ray does have the extended version of the movie. The movie looks and sounds good for 1981. I believe Bill Murray did CADDYSHACK before this one in 1980. I recommend this one!

This movie is a classic. Heck, it's one of the ones that made me decide to join the military (others being Top Gun, Full Metal Jacket, Hamburger Hill, Platoon, and of course watching Hogan's Heroes as a kid). You will be hard pressed to find any other movie with such suspense, intrigue, drama, oh and of course laugh till it hurts comedy. this is Bill "BFM" Murray at his all time best. Forget Caddy Shack and Ghostbusters, this is what a legend looks like. If you have never seen this movie, go watch it right now. If you have seen it, go watch it again. If you are watching it right now, stop it, rewind, and watch it from the beginning. It's that d@mn good.

National anthems stripes! You have the mix of some of the best actors from the 1980s. John Candy, Bill Murray, Howard Ramos, and so many more make up a ragtag bunch of recruits that join the army. This movie has so many funny scenes and so many crazy antics it's got to be in anybody's collection. Throwing the fact that this is a steel book edition makes it even better.

If you haven't seen "Stripes" then you don't know what you have been missing. This is Bill Murray and Harold Ramis at the top of their game. Supporting players are (a very young) John Larroquette and John Candy. How can you go wrong. This version is to cash in on the steelbook craze, but it is inexpensive and the film is great so you really can't lose.

My review isnt of the movie because everyone knows its a Bill Murray classic. I am reviewing the steelbook and it is amazing. I like when Steelbook art is creative and not just generic shots from the movie. These pop art steelbooks are all amazingly creative.

Another classic that gets the Blu Ray treatment. Felt like I was watching it for the first time. You can even watch the extended cut of the movie with the additional scenes highlighted by a small star on the top corner of the image!
