This TV gets insanely bright. I thought the TCL QM7 was bright (which I had prior to this), but this is a completely different tier. Highlights genuinely pop in a way I haven’t seen on my previous sets. The main thing I was chasing was contrast and deep blacks, and even with only early impressions, it’s delivering. For context, I have an LG G5 in the living room, a Samsung S90D in the bedroom, plus a few OLED monitors—so I’m very familiar with what “true black” looks like. This is the closest I’ve personally seen to OLED-level blacks from a non-OLED TV. I tried to stress the black levels using the Sony OLED fireworks demo, and only when I cranked brightness and raised gamma to unrealistic levels did I see a tiny amount of blooming. In normal viewing it hasn’t been an issue. We also watched parts of Dune: Part Two, which has some tough dark scenes, and I honestly couldn’t tell much difference in black levels going back and forth between this and my LG G5. What really stood out was how the top and bottom letterbox bars stayed inky black, even during super bright desert scenes—something my QM7 didn’t handle nearly as well. Last thing: the bezel and overall profile are excellent—very “gallery-style” looking and more premium than I expected. This is the best mini-LED TV on the market, and I'd argue, as an owner of an 83 G5, the best TV on the market - period.

Going from OLED for the last four years to the TCL had me a little nervous. But once I turned it on for the first time and adjusted the color levels and black level, I became a believer. The blacks are near as if not as deep as they are on an OLED, and the colors pop so much more. The tv is easy to use, and easy to adjust. The menus are more common sense than high tech, not that they aren't lacking for options at all. This has become the new center piece in my living room for sure, and the price compared to the large OLED's is the final nail in the coffin. Outstanding.
