About This Item
The Coasters occupy a unique niche in the history of Popular Music in that they were just about the only act to successfully straddle the divide between 'serious' R&R/R&B/DooWop and novelty repertoire. The court jesters of Rock & Roll, they cut some of the most remarkable, innovative and enduring discs of the era, sold millions of records worldwide, and were briefly the most popular vocal group in the world. The appeal of their records is both timeless and ageless, and their zany, carefully-crafted vignettes have been covered and revived by dozens (hundreds, perhaps?) of other artists over the decades. This compilation of classic Coasters cuts is drawn from EPs issued in the US, the UK, France, Sweden and Spain between 1958 and the early 60s. It comprises a prime selection of A-sides, B-sides and LP tracks, and features most of their signature hits. Album Tracks 1. Riot in Cell Block Number Nine 2. Framed 3. Loop de Loop Mambo 4.
