Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis star in this David Cronenberg remake. The special effects are very good but also absolutely disgusting at times, so hopefully you have a strong stomach if you're going to watch this!

David Cronenberg combines his trademark affinity for gore and horror with strongly developed characters, making The Fly a surprisingly affecting tragedy.

hands down the best remake ever to a movie. David Cronenberg's best film in my opinion is a remake of the 1958 sci fi classic The Fly where a Scientist switches heads with a fly in a teleportation accident. this version however, is about a scientist played by Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, Independence Day), who invents teleportation pods to revolutionize ways of getting around. he becomes involved with a reporter played by Geena Davis (Beetlejuice, A league of their own, Thelma and Louise), who is covering his story but also falls for him. during one test on himself, a fly gets trapped inside the machine and becomes infused in Jeff, slowly turning him into a grotesque fly creature. creepy atmosphere, great direction and top notch gory special effects. also contains some deleted scenes and an unfinished alternate ending. must see.

THE ORIGINAL 1958 RELEASE OF "THE FLY" WITH DAVID HEDISON, REMAINS THE CLASSIC VERSION OF THE STORY OF A SCIENTIST EXPERIMENTING WITH 'TELEPORTING' THAT, UNKNOWINGLY, HAS A HITCH-HIKER, A COMMON HOUSE FLY, ENTER HIS TELEPORTING CHAMBER AS HE STARTS TO TRANSPORT HIS BODY ACROSS HIS LABORATORY TO THE RECEIVING CHAMBER ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM. THE RESUTS ARE A PHENOMENON HE CANNOT REVERSE. THIS 1986 RE-MAKE VERSION WITH JEFF GOLDBLUM, USES THE SAME STORY-LINE BUT ADDS THE MODERN DAY REQUISITE OF 'MORE HORROR' AND 'MORE GROSSNESS'! BOTH ARE EXCELLENT FILMS AND CHOOSING YOUR 'FAVORITE' OF THE TWO CAN BE DIFFICULT. MY SOLUTION . . . I BOUGHT BOTH VERSIONS FOR MY COLLECTION AND NOW CAN ENJOY BOTH, EQUALLY AS WELL, IN THEIR OWN RIGHT.

David Hedison, the original "Fly", in the 50 ' s movie, is an old family friend. His first name is actually Albert, by the way. I personally haven't seen him in years. The last time being at his mother's wake and funeral. That was back in the 60's, if I remember correctly. So of course, I always loved the original movie! Most people did. It is regarded as "classic" sci-fi. That's why I really wanted to hate this remake but I couldn't! The movie is wonderful! Jeff Goldblum is great, as the "soon to be loony toons" scientist! The special fx are extraordinary, especially for the time and the story is so much better than the original! Highly recommended, for any sci-fi aficionado!!!

The Fly is a film that delves deeper into the viewer's subconscious than may initially be anticipated. Starting off comfortably within the realm of general science fiction, the film eventually spirals into a emotionally jarring and existentially pessimistic journey that will likely hit viewers harder than they anticipate. The blu-ray transfer of this film is excellent and I recommend The Fly quite highly to anyone with an interest in science fiction, horror and/or Franz Kafka.

Except for the excellent performances by Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis, the story was marginally interesting. Worth seeing it for the aforementioned performances.

The Fly is a remake of a Vincent Price classic of the same name. This is a rare occasion where the remake is better than the original. This movie uses practical effects and nails the grossness and realism it is going for. Geena Davis is wonderfully great in this movie and do I even need to talk about Jeff Goldblum. Jeff Goldblum is always the best part of anything he is in. If you are a horror fan and have not seen The Fly, do so ASAP!

The film looks absolutely incredible and doesn't show its age at all on this Blu-ray. The film itself blew me away, with amazing practical effects that look more realistic than the best CGI and a bizarrely interesting story with two terrific leads in one of my new favorite films. For me, it stands alongside John Carpenter's The Thing as one of the great examples of how high quality a horror movie can be.

The Fly is a great movie that has become a classic. Not to mention that the original 1958 version is a classic itself, Jeff Goldblum and Gena Davis both give outstanding performances. The physical visual effects still hold up 34 years later. Watching it in Blu-ray format made it all the more better.
