Been waiting to pull the trigger on this product, and Best Buy finally lowered the price to what I was willing to pay. I really liked this movie, but be aware that it's not for everyone. It's creepy, slow-burn horror where it seems like nothing happens until the last 10 minutes or so. But if you've ever been alone in someone else's house, you know how creepy it can be!

This is the first Ti West film I saw and I instantly became a fan. It's still my favorite of his too. It's simple but a very well made, very suspenseful throwback horror flick. It looks great and does so much for being so simple.

This film has a lot of style and should be way more enjoyable, sadly nothing really happens until the last 10 mins.

Fans of 70's/80's horror will appreciate House of the Devil, not because it forces a retro vibe on you a la Rob Zombie, but because it manages to do so without being obvious. You could probably trick the average Hollywood movie goer into thinking this is an older movie. Don't get me wrong, it's not a great movie, but it is very very good. IMO, much better than Ti West's "Innkeepers", which everyone seems to like and I hate. I prefer the look of film, grain and all, as opposed to something that looks like it was shot on a camcorder. HOTD definitely captures that "film" look of the past. Despite the dated look, the Blu-ray looks great. It is light on extras if that's important to you.

I watched The Innkeepers, another Ti West film, before deciding to check this one out. West does not disappoint. He somehow achieves that creepy, eery feeling that the horror films of old managed to cast on the audience, without an overabundance of gore and torture. I said this in my review of The Innkeepers as well, and it holds true here. If you knew nothing about this film and saw it on TV late at night, you would probably think this movie was made in the early 80s. That's how accurate and spot-on West's portrayal of the time period is. He wrangles up a great group of actors, including some cameos that horror aficionados should appreciate, and the lead actress is phenomenal. The suspense builds and builds, and West prepares you for one heck of a crescendo. I will leave it at that. The best part about this film is its ability to surprise you. The ability to lull an audience into a false sense of security is a bedrock principle in successful horror stories, and this one knocks it out of the park. High recommended, especially at the current $9.99 sale price!
