By the end of the 1980s, R&B and soul were very much a part of pop culture. However, it was the UK group The Pasadenas who paid the most honest homage to the origins of these genres, with their music drawing on 1950s doo-wop, 1960s Motown and 1970s funk and R&B. The single InchEnchanted LadyInch, for example, was an ode to Smokey Robinson and could easily have been mistaken for the real thing. The album's biggest hit was InchTribute (Right On)Inch, which took Europe by storm in the summer of 1988. The album was also a huge success, selling over a million copies.
