After reading the reviews and specs, I decided to move from a JBL Charge to the Megaboom 3 (blue because it was $70 cheaper). The sound out of the box was clean, bass sounded decent, highs lacked a little, not very loud but more than I needed, I suppose. Nothing that probably couldn't be taken care on the UE app. However, I could not download the app because it says it was built for an older phone version. After contacting customer service (which was reposnsive and friendly) an app update is needed but not available yet. Before deciding whether to return the MB3, I played it next to my daughters Charge 4, which has been broken in and the Charge had more sound balance. Even though the Megaboom has a 360 degree sound, a solid build and aesthetically pleasing, I think I am going to exchange for another JBL.

Purchased this because I really needed a portable waterproof speaker for the pool and beach. This is definitely a good speaker for that purpose. However the price tag they put on this would make you think it's in the same class as a comparable Bose, JBL, Sony, Sonos...etc... unfortunately it's not. The speaker will get loud but it's doesn't have the same full rich sound as those others mentioned and the low end is non existent at lower volumes. Luckily I got this on sale and had a gift card, so I didnt pay anywhere near the $200 price tag...if I had I would strongly consider replacing it with another speaker from one of the brands above. The biggest pluses, good app integration, waterproof, well built and 360 degree sound.

Megaboom looks nice and well built. As far as sound it's okay hardly any bass. I would recommend spending the extra bucks and getting a bose or jbl bluetooth speaker.

As just a speaker you'd set down on the counter while doing chores or in the shower it'd be worth 5 stars. BUT I specifically bought this speaker with the intention of using the sync mode. I even convinced a good friend of mine to buy one also. We were planning on taking them along on our trips to the river for tubing. First the good: I haven't dropped it yet or anything so I can't speak about how rugged it is. It does feel like it has solid build quality though. It floats in water and can be completely submerged for a short time with no problems. Battery time has been good for me, 6 hrs at max volume per use on a full charge. And the app was straight-forward. As far as sound quality goes, it sounds as good as what you'd except it to sound like for the price but the bass is nothing to write home about. Volume is a little louder than I expected Now the bad: The sync feature was extremely lacking in terms of connectivity. Any distance greater than about 5 feet made at least one of the speakers start crackling or cutting out completely. This was no good considering the distance between 2 people each holding a speaker is about 3 feet from the getgo while sitting on the float tubes. While floating down the river there's a lot of variation in how the tubes are pulling each other so your physical proximity from the next person is constantly changing meaning bad connection in this case. Naturally our goal of putting each speaker on opposite ends of our group was out of the question. After deciding to only use one, we quickly discovered that if there's any interference at all and the speaker loses signal quality, we would have to restart it completely by cycling power. This was despite the speaker still showing as connected on the connected phone and in the app. For context, you're sitting in a tube floating down the river with your phone in a pouch hanging off a lanyard. Every now and again your phone takes a small dip under water for whatever reason and this constantly cut the connection. This is not an issue we have ever had with any other speaker including a homemade one with a very cheap bluetooth receiver. This review applies to both the speakers we had (my friend's and mine). They behaved exactly the same so I'm not sure if they were part of the same batch and maybe defective or something like that but I'm returning mine for sure. He may also not sure yet. Again, good as just a normal speaker as stated in the intro

The Ultimate Ears MegaBoom 3 is a nice any environment type speaker. It is specifically designed to be out in the open and everyone around it to enjoy. It has 360 audio, though it is just standard stereo speakers pointing opposite of each other, so you still get stereo effect. It is waterproof and rugged, great for active environments. It is actually surprisingly light for the size of it. It will float if it falls in water, but don’t expect it to be worth playing in water like the box almost makes it look like a feature. There is a small loop on it that is perfect for a carabiner so you can keep it secured. The design is simple, nothing flashy, not even a big brand logo. Buttons are simple and the giant + an - volume buttons make it so that anyone can figure it out. However, they are a bit awkward to use. Plus, the tone at max volume kind of scared me the first time as it is mutes the audio playing to make a loud beep. As for sound quality, it’s not the worst I have heard, but not the best either. If there is a mix of highs and lows you can hear it flutter. It can’t handle deep lows or piercing highs, but it does alright with trying to make the mids sound like “thundering bass”. If I were just going for pure audio clarity, I would avoid this one. The power brick that comes with this is huge, but at least the plug flips in to make it a bit smaller. The supplied USB cable is decently long, but I’ve already bent the end that goes into the power module on accident. As it look reinforced, it slightly extends beyond that reinforcement making it easy to damage. There is a separate wireless charger that may be different, but I haven’t seen it, but you can see how it is used with the little indention on the bottom. TLDR: if you are planning on taking this outside, around water, in an area where you might be concerned with it falling and getting wet, but want to listen to music, it might be worth it. If you are just using around the house, for the price, there are better.

OK sounding speakers and can connect to multiple speakers at once it nice. I found the sound tiring after a while and the software to link the speakers was cumbersome tedious and not reliable for speakers that have been around so long I would have expected more mature implementation. It just tired my ears defeating the great battery life, portability and water proof. Real shame I ended up returning the 2 I purchased.

The Ultimate Ears MEGABOOM 3 portable speaker is decent, but not outstanding. The design is sleek and the waterproof/dustproof feature is a plus. The sound quality is good, but not exceptional. The battery life could be longer. Overall, it's a decent option for those in need of a portable speaker, but there may be better options on the market for the price.

We bought 2 Megaboom 3s for the PartyUp feature and water resistance (have 2 Fugoo Style XLs - LOVE the sound/bass, but can't connect multi speakers). Sound wise, they are pretty good overall, and get nice and loud. The highs and mids sound clear and concise. No complaints on that end. Bass is just OK, if not lacking a bit. Bass is pretty hollow sounding (especially compared to our Fugoos), but not so bad that it's a deal breaker. "Megaboom" really doesn't quite fit this speaker, given the lack of bass 'boom' we're getting from these speakers. The build quality of the speakers is quite good. They are solid, and look pretty sharp. Buttons work as they should. Love the water resistance, since we use these mostly out by our pool. If there is one negative to these, it's the inconsistent Bluetooth and PartyUp feature. If using 1 speaker, it connects (to my phone/source) fine, and range seems to be decent. But...when I connect multi speakers (2 Megaboom 3s, and sometimes adding a Boom) and use PartyUp to connect/sync them, the range and connections get pretty spotty. We have to keep the speakers way too close to the source than we'd like, or they will start dropping the signal. I know Bluetooth in general can be unreliable at times, but this has been a bit frustrating, and we weren't expecting the signals to drop so bad. Hopefully with a firmware update, issues like this will be fixed in time. With that said, they are nice speakers. Just don't expect big tight bass, and connections when using PartyUp could be inconsistent.

had it for a month or so now, big sound, too much bass / boomy but I guess that's in the name. I did use the app to adjust and made it a little better. I had the smaller one before and the sound was better, but I wanted to fill a bigger room and use it outside where this one does better. I would have bought the Bose but I wanted the waterproof and higher durability

The speaker’s build quality and branding are definitely a plus, but the sound quality is nothing too impressive. The bass was definitely prominent, but the mid and highs were kind of muddied together. Especially when you are watching shows, it is hard to hear crisp voices so it is sometimes hard to understand. I think I liked the original boom better because I liked the sound quality a little better.

Bought this to use for Mother’s Day BBQ. Speaker sounds great especially with the settings you can play with in the app. Unfortunetly, the sound isnt great when you are more than 5 ft away. The bluetooth range is not as great as advertised. After 3 feet away I would experience connectivity issues. Now who knows if I recieved a defective speaker or not but not a great experience. The worst part was it was advertised to last long after a full charge and the speaker died after 4-5 hours of us. Not sure because I kept it as max volume the whole time but it was fully charged after purchase. I returned it and may just go with the regular Wonderbooms which I have had a great experience with.

Let me say that this is a decent speaker. The sound is decent overall, but nothing to write home about. Around the same time I got this speaker, I also purchased a refurbished JBL Xtreme 2, and to sum it up there was no contest. Now, I am by no means a picky audiophile, but I do know my electronics. The UE lacked in overall balance, tending to have a sound profile that was too "bright," treble heavy for my taste, and the bass was severely lacking in my opinion. As I said, this is not a bad speaker at all; I just expected more. Now the JBL Xtreme 2 is listed as retailing for about $300, but I believe the jump in quality of sound is well worth it. Plus, there are always sales on JBL products if you can hold out a bit and keep an eye on their website. I ended up returning this speaker in the end and keeping the JBL Xtreme 2, and haven't looked back. There are tons of options out there that are a better value than this UE speaker that are just as rugged and portable.

The speaker was loud for its size without having a lot of distortion. I was unimpressed that I had to download 2 separate apps to manage the speaker. Both apps wanted subscription payments for full use and in-app advertising. The sound was clear but hollow-sounding compared to competitors like Bose or Sony with speakers in the same price range and size. I returned this speaker and got a Sony.

Unfortunately i was disappointed this time with UE. Didnt hear the Mega in this unit. I found my original UE Boom was very close in sound. So i returned this because there is no sense in wasting money on something that is so close to a smaller one. Might be good for indoor use

We appreciate your honest feedback about the Ultimate Ears MEGABOOM 3. While it's great to hear that the speaker has impressive sound quality, we understand your disappointment in not experiencing a significant audio upgrade compared to the original UE Boom.

I was so excited when I purchased this speaker and then the disappointment ensued. The sound quality is satisfactory. Battery life isn’t great. Connectivity is solely via Bluetooth. I was just hoping for better performance from this speaker. I think there are better options available in this price range.

I had just purchased the smaller boom and saw this one on sale for same price. I returned it because I preferred the sound of the smaller speaker. I previously had Bose color link and I do like this speaker better and I like that you can join multiple speakers.

It's great to hear you enjoy the multi-speaker functionality and find the sound quality superior to your previous Bose speaker. We'll be sure to pass your feedback on to Ultimate Ears!

As a Bluetooth device, it’s perfect no complaints. However, my primary reason to get this one is because under its specs it says it has an aux input, it doesn’t! I’m not sure if it’s been corrected but I’m the Best Buy description, it’s says aux “YES” included, but to my surprise, nope nothing. Didn’t bother reading others reviews, I should have, it would have save me the trip to return it. Other than that, it’s great working speaker!
