Various Artists - Music of America: Leonard Bernstein - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

A master juggler, Bernstein balanced his flair for conducting the classical repertoire with his expansive thirst as a composer, embracing everything from symphonies and operas to Broadway musicals and Hollywood film scores. This set carries out it's own balancing act, pairing songs from West Side Story, on the Town, Wonderful Town and Candide with crucial classical works like Serenade for Violin and Orchestra and Chichester Psalms. You'll hear Leonard Slatkin's recording of Songfest and encounter Hilary Hahn, Benny Goodman, Marilyn Horne and Bernstein himself!
