Vol. 52 Rockabilly & Rock 'n' Roll From The Vaults Of Mar Vel' & Glenn Records Mar Vel' and Glenn Records, labels run by Harry Glenn from 1949 in Hammond, northern Indiana, not far from Chicago, specializing in country and rockabilly. In the 1950s and early '60s, Glenn produced a selection of high quality rockabilly and R'n'R recordings. Among his most famous artists were Jack Bradshaw and Bobby Sisco. For the 52nd edition in our tag based CD series 'That'll Flat... Git It!', producer Nico Feuerbach has compiled the very best tracks from the extensive catalogs of Mar Vel' and Glenn. Our Chicago music expert Bill Dahl wrote the detailed liner notes for the illustrated booklet. We have carefully remastered the historic recordings from the best available sources according to Bear Family standards. Although the town was situated just east of the Illinois state line in Indiana, Hammond's taste in music was well removed from that of nearby Chicago. Hammond served as homebase for a platoon of country and rockabilly performers, and Harry Glenn was right there to document it all on from 1949 on with his feisty Mar Vel' and Glenn labels. His diskery's enduring slogan InchHits of Tomorrow Recorded TodayInch may have been a tad ambitious, but Bear Family's latest entry in it's 'That'll Flat... Git It!' series underscores it's importance as Glenn released more than his share of classic rockabilly and rock and roll. This is raw boned juke joint music at it's finest, served up by local performers working the rough blue collar barrooms of Hammond and Calumet City, Illinois and laying it down in the studio just the way they did every night no frills and plenty of thrills.
