Great preamp with useful I/O options and versatile sound sculpting. I’ve been using a Shure SM7B into a Cloudlifter CL-1 into a Focusrite Clarett interface for the last three years. I recently decided I wanted something with more guts, a preamp with more gain and flexibility for future mics. I also wanted to simplify my signal routing. My mic input was still on the low side without cranking up my audio interface’s gain. When using my mic for regular voice chat (Discord), sound was lackluster. My solution was loop audio back through a Pro Tools session and send the processed vocal to Discord. This meant always needing to open Pro Tools and keep a session running when I wanted people to hear me. I will no longer need the added complexity. I send the output of the preamp straight into my audio interface and speaking level has enough gain to transmit cleanly through Discord. I was able to unpack, plug in, and rack mount my WA73-EQ in minutes. I loaded up a recent Pro Tools session and instantly went to work recording some vocal takes and comparing to before. This thing can add punch or color. It’s subtle, yet deliberate. I cannot wait to further dial in my settings for regular use.
