Exactly one month after purchasing this item, it unexpectedly stopped working. Knowing how sensitive these drives can be, I always try to handle them carefully and avoid any unnecessary impact while running. Unfortunately, I mistakenly placed another drive on top of this one while transferring photos from one of my numerous backups, which ultimately caused it to fail. Despite only paying $55 for it, I truly did get what I paid for.

I bought this external drive to back-up my desktop files. It worked perfectly the first couple of times, then the app began displaying an error message stating that I did not have permission to access the drive/files I was trying to back up. I tried everything I could to resolve, including opening the app as an administrator and searching for solutions online. Nothing worked. This has basically become junk, and I will have to buy another external hard drive. It will definitely not be a WD.

I asked for help buying a backup drive for my laptop and the WD My Passport was recommended to me. I bought it, but I can't use it as a backup drive because it is incompatible with Windows 11. W11 sees it as a portable drive, not a fixed drive and therefore won't use it for backup. I'm totally frustrated!!

I wanted storage for my photos. I was unable to put any photos in it. It asked me to download the software. The software seemed to promote upgrades. When I tried to access the software it crashed my browser. I kept trying to make it work. No help from WD. I returned it too late for a refund. The first one they sold me was $45.00. The second one that the salesperson told me didn't require software was an additional $10.00. The second one did the exact same thing as the first. I have a $55.00 store credit with no other brand available at this time.

Very disappointing. We found out after buying it that the new version no longer has the function to allow regularly scheduled full backups, unlike our older Passport. The functionality has gotten worse. We expected improvements over time, not a decrease in usefulness.

The product most likely is fine. However the sales person over sold and took advantage of us. For that reason Best Buy and Geek Squad most likely will not enjoy our business very often.

This storage was something an employee referred me to that it works great well he forgot to mention if I didn’t have a computer to back anything up it would be a problem. So my boyfriend lost all his games and the storage no longer works without a computer to back everything up!

this is an up charge a geek squad employee did, as they falsely informed me about my computer. Then damaging it beyond repair, management offered me an open box computer as a replacement for half the cost, then resended that offer to only $400 to purchase a new computer. They would not match the specs of my damaged property. management and supervisors at Best Buy don’t seem to care about their customers only their bottom line of having me purchase new product.

After wasting time waiting for hours for my files to be transferred, multiple files were corrupted and not able to be deleted. Had to remove all the files and returned it back to the store. I won’t buy this brand again

The last couple of trips to Best Buy have been less than positive. I got the feeling that I was continuously being given an upsell ALL THE TIME. Had to put my computer in for repairs and was told I needed to purchase this to get information off computer and would be told if everything was ok. NEVER heard anything until repair center called to see if I would approval a $900+ repair bill. OF COURSE, I had no choice ... yes. I still do not know if my information was saved and STILL waiting on something OTHER THAN asking me to pay for something else. I am still in the 4 - 6 week window as was first told, but felt I would hear SOMETHING!!! I am not happy and will investigate other sources for my computer needs as soon as I get my computer back.

This drive is difficult to install on a Mac Pro. Although the device was installed successfully, it would not import photos or files from my MAC to the external drive. I am a new MAC user, so perhaps an experience user might not have had such difficulty. However, I called Apple and they were not able transfer the files either. All the drivers were installed and there was no error message. Hence, we could not figure out the problem. Apple referred me back to the manufacturer of the device. I will phone them tomorrow. If I am able to transfer the files, I'll update this review and give it more stars. I used a different external drive for years and it worked perfectly. We'll see. Stay tuned.

You were unsuccessful with recovering my external hard drive that seized. I paid over $1,000 for you to work on it but in the end, I still do not have my recovered files. The process also took a long time (6-8 weeks). So here I am, a couple months later, $1,000 poorer and still no recovered external hardrive.

I do not use it. I came away from Best Buy with two of these things. One in a blue box, one in a orange box. What am I supposed to do with two? Should I return one for a refund or what? No one has contacted me about my visit to Best Buy. Agent Leia was minimal in her presentation and information.

A salesman suggested this drive for a MAC. He said that It is a plug and play. Well, I plugged It in and got the play part was to down load some software from the drive to the Mac. Ok I did that. Next was to format the drive to the MAC standard. The program need something from the internet and got a message that the web site could not be found. At this point I quit the dance and took the drive back.

This product sucks.... it crashed in six months of having it..... thank God i had a backup.... paying more to retrieve my files, three times more than the thing cost is a no for me.... find a samsung hard drive
