No, it makes the ice cubes and when they melt if not uses the melted water to make the cubes again continuing the cycle. It is insulated like a cooler so the ice doesn't melt too fast. It works well for me and one other person. I think it would be good for up to 4 people, but it just depends.

This item is designed for indoor use. Please note that portable ice makers on the market do not keep the ice made frozen inside the unit. Our portable ice maker makes ice and is stored, as the slowly melts the water drips down to the water tank for continuous ice making.
