      Geek squad is a joke and Best Buy in store worse

      We purchased Sony alpha 7ii camera in 2016 with 2 year accidental damage protection plan. We gave it to Best Buy secaucus ,NJ store for cleaning while our camera still had protection plan . A month later I get a call from Best Buy saying your camera is ready for pick up, we go to the store and notice the camera hasn’t been cleaned at all, it’s even dirtier then when we left it there. The customer service rep helping us noticed the camera wasn’t sent out for cleaning at all and it was just sitting in the store for a MONTH. We were asked to give it back for cleaning but we had to leave for a trip and by the time we came back our service plan was expired. We went back to the store to activate our service to give it back for cleaning however now the stores refuses to activate the plan and recommends calling geek squad. I have been back and forth with geek squad for last 4 weeks and they keep blaming each other for the issue. I just need to get my camera cleaned, I didn’t know it was such a big deal. Best Buy customer service is going down the drain.

      Why wouldn't you get this? Technology is advancing constantly. Products wear out if used frequently. We are human and tend to misplace, break, or loose items. These comments have one thing in common, and that is the need to find security that you will have a replacement for any of these reasons above. **note - that you COULD get a newer model to replace your old item (after 1-3 years) ONLY IF it is damaged, unrepairable, un-replaceable, and that model is out of stock. NOT just because you want the newest thing in the market** Best Buy offers the best warranty that can guarantee you coverage if your item even has any damage on the (example) screen! Other business manufacturers will NOT offer you that coverage! They only warrant specifics. And with Best Buys customer service, you don't have to wait for long; they immediately assist you with your needs and send you on your way without a long wait time! Don't quote me, simply ask a Best Buy representative on what their warranty covers, and you'll see why it's a great deal to pay a little more for its security. It feels great to know you are investing in safety for your "special" item.

      Great service but issues with implementation

      (Insurance plan for a high-end mirrorless camera) This insurance plan has a great upside for photographers who will be outside and in the elements. Fair warning though, while the staff and service from Best Buy is impeccable, the actual sub-contractor who does repairs can be spotty. I brought in my camera to specifically get only a basic wet-sensor cleaning done and after two weeks I received the camera back with dust still on the sensor and the entire camera memory erased. With higher end-cameras where the user can customize settings and download applications, the contractor's consistent use of a factory reset can lead to hours of tedious work to reset the camera as desired. The staff at Best Buy however were more than helpful in rectifying the issue and ensuring they receive top marks for customer satisfaction.

      I had bought a Nikon 750 camera and loved it up to the day I accidentally dropped it while it was in an unzipped camera backpack. That was a very sad day. I took the camera to BestBuy Geek Squad and it was sent it immediately. The only catch is that you need to call the store to schedule an appointment. It was gone for 2 weeks when I was contacted and notified that it was not repairable. My only complaint was that I was given an email from Geek Squad to provide more information to the repair person before the repair could be made. I had called the provided number and got the run around for about 2 hours. Finally, I was put in contact with the repair company and they gave me the details. From there, it was easy. I stopped by the Best Buy store, got my initial purchase amount refunded and then was able to purchase a new camera. Thank you Best Buy.

      I purchased this plan when I bought my Canon DSLR camera. I never needed to use it for repairs, but it also included free professional cleanings for my camera. Right before this plan expired, I decided to send my camera in for a cleaning just to take advantage of it. Plus, there were some black spots visible in the eyepiece that wasn't dirt on the lens, but something inside, possibly on the mirror. I dropped my camera off at the nearest Best Buy and it was delivered back to my home in less time than I was originally told. No more visible dirt in the eyepiece. These plans are like extended car warranties. They are rarely worth the expense, so it's hard to recommend purchasing one. In the case of the camera, the free cleanings alone probably make it worth it.

      I bought this as protection for my camera which included cleaning. I sent it away only to receive it back with spots still on my photos. I had to send it back a second time and there was miscommunication with how long it would take for me to get my camera back as an issue had to be escalated. I was quite frustrated as I missed out on using the camera during a trip overseas and struggled trying to get my point across to the people I was speaking to on the phone about the issues that I was having. It was resolved and I'm happy that I bought it but I think there's quite a bit of room for improvement with the Service and how they support you with it.

      Use your camera outdoors, then protect it

      If you take an expensive camera on a trip, use it at a sporting event, or even let your kids use it, consider getting the protection plan. With accident coverage, it goes way beyond the normal factory warranty and covers against dropping, liquids, almost anything that might happen. If it cannot be repaired, the coverage will give you credit for what you paid towards a replacement. And you can take your camera in once a year for cleaning at no charge. They also will replace a battery 1 time at no charge. The cleaning and battery replacement will cover the cost of the plan alone.
