During the First World War, Lance Corporal Shofield (George MacKay) and Lance Corporal Blake (Dean-Charles Chapman), two young men in the British army, must venture deep behind enemy lines to deliver a critical message that could prevent the massacre of a British battalion in a trap laid by the enemy. At the bidding of their superior officers (Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch), the young privates put their own lives on the line, as it could mean the difference between life and death for 1,600 of their brothers in arms, including Blake's own brother (Richard Madden). Directed by Sam Mendes.~Maggie Sadler
I wont knock this because my pre order showed up several days after promised. I could have just gone down the street to best buy and grabbed it on release day. No biggie with that whole pandemic thing going on. I'll let an extra 3 to 4 days slide, but I learned my lesson. If i want a disc to feature on release day, I'll just grab it from the store myself.
The movie is a real looker on 4k. Details galore here. I would not say that it is Dunkirk/The Shallows level of picture quality, but it definitely comes close. The HDR doesnt do a whole lot for the feature, which is mainly due to the color palette, but there are some chapters that will really pop more than others. The audio on this disc is a beast and can be used to show off your display and hopefully drop a few panties here and there.
As usual these Best Buy steel books are solid. Steel spine, and the discs are held firmly in place yet easily accessible and removable.
Also as usual, comes with a code for adding to your digital libraries such as Vudu, Amazon, Google, etc. Also came with a redemption code that gives you an option to download a free movie from Universal Pictures or to enter a drawing for a $100 gift card. The movie selections weren't very interesting so I opted for the drawing. All based on agreeing to receive promotional emails. No biggie.
Rated only 4 stars because the marketing and/or design people (or whoever) really missed an opportunity when designing this steel book. The character Lance Corporal Schofield carried with him a tin cigar canister he used to hold pictures. It's just about the size of a steel book case, and they really should have designed this steel book to resemble that tin canister.
The film looks and sounds excellent, of course. Haven't gotten around to any of the special features yet, but there are several, including two separate commentary tracks.
This should have received the Oscar for best picture. Absolutely fantastic movie. Great story, and the cinematography was amazing. Picture and sound quality were exceptional on the 4K disc. Beautiful SteelBook as well.
4K UltraHD version hits home, taking full advantage of Dolby Vision HDR and a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. An instant classic, this film lives up to critics' high praise as it takes the viewer on a heroic journey and amazing tale.
This movie was AMAZING and I feel so lucky I was able to see this on the big screen when it was out. The 4k is Beautiful and the steelbook is GORGEOUS. DEFINITELY my pick for best picture (that went to PARASITE which was also AMAZING) And the fact that the director made this from his grandfather's memoirs on the war is just amazing in itself. ❤
This movie it’s excellent from star to end. With a great cast and visually entertaining; a story that will move you. Got the Steelbook cause was the only exclusive offer around for the movie is nice and embossed and pictured inside. Glad the film won some nominations but it deserve it the best picture which it didn’t won.
