After eight long years, Mudcrutch gives us their second full length album. For those who are not aware, Mudcrutch was originally put together in 1971, before Tom Petty form the Heartbreakers. In 2008, the group reunited with original members, Petty, Benmont Tench, Mike Campbell(from the Heartbreakers), Tom Leadon( brother of Eagles founding member Bernie Leadon), and Randall Marsh. This newest release is a odd mix of country and Southern rock that just doesn't hit the target like I expected. It's a good first listen, but I lost interest after that. Pretty much a disc for die-hard Petty fans.

I love TP and was thrilled when he released the first Mudcrutch album (his first band prior to The Heartbreakers) about 8 years ago. This second release, aptly titled 2, is fantastic. Play it loud on a warm summer day during a road trip and sink it all in. Every song is a gem, no fillers here. The songs are loose and lyrically funny, introspective, and simply a treat to the years. The recording is wonderful as well. No gimmicks, just a band with familiar voices who show what it means to release a great rock album. You won't be disappointed with this purchase!

First and foremost, if you liked the first Mudcrutch album then go ahead and buy this one. You will not be disappointed. It continues much in the same vein as their first release. For those not familiar with Mudcrutch, this is a band that Tom Petty was in before he made it big. The group is a combination of a rock/blues band. The album includes some heartfelt lyrics with a satisfying tune. Be warned, this isn't the Tom Petty show. Mudcrutch really is a band effort and if you are solely looking for a new Petty album then you may be disappointed.

Unmistakably, Tom Petty with a couple of old buddies from way back and a couple of Heartbreaker mainstays. This outing lets TP relax and just play with no lofty expectations. The result is another gem of southern tinged Rock & Soul from another time and era. The "old buddies" Tom Leadon & Randall Marsh bring a freshness to the Petty camp that make this disc a must have for any Petty fan.

Mudcrutch brings a fresh approach to the Tom Petty sound. It's more blues and rockabilly than Heartbreakers music. I think it's some of his best work in years. The first Mudcrutch record was excellent so I'm glad to report this is a worthy successor. A real band effort, each member gets their own lead track. Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench join Petty on these projects, a reunion of their band when just starting out. This is great stuff. Highly recommended.

While this has songs written by others, its definitely Tom Petty. I was pleasantly surprised when I happened on this little gem when shopping for new music to round out my collection. I will buy anything that Petty is involved in, whether its solo, Heartbreakers, Wilbury's or Mudcrutch. I have always been a big fan from the first listen of Dam the Torpedo's. The guy is a prolific song writer and a huge talent, buy it!

Tom Petty returns with a new Mudcrutch album, and it is pretty dang good. Petty is one of the few current artists that can attempt different projects and make it great. The difference between Vinny Dombrowski (Sponge, CRUD, and The Orbitsuns) is that this could easily be mistaken as a Heartbreakers record...and that isn't a bad thing.

I really enjoyed Mudcrutch's previous album but I think this album is a improvement over it. The best songs on this album are Dreams of Flying, I forgive it all, hope, Hungry no more, and Save your water. This is a good album that comfortably mixes genres from country, folk, and rock, and the playing is excellent throughout.
