      I recently bought a camera and the one-year protection plan. I took my camera on a 3 week vacation and it malfunctioned the first day. I couldn't take a single picture with the zoom lens. When I got back in town, I went to return my camera. Unfortunately, it was just past the 30 days so I was unable to get a refund. However, with the 1 year protection plan, Best Buy agreed to either switch and give me the same new camera or I could take the purchase price and use that money towards a different camera. I chose to get a different camera. Somehow, I was also able to get the 1 year warranty for the new camera without an additional cost. Overall, I'm glad I bought the warranty because I would have been out hundreds of dollars on a broken camera.

      I extended Geek Squad Protection on my Canon G9X camera in June. I know I put portable gear through tough use and am glad I got it as in August the camera stopped working while climbing 14ers. I brought it in to get it fixed. About 2 weeks later (I was getting frustrated by the wait time) Geek Squad trashed the broken device and replaced it. My only complaint is that I thought the contract would roll over to the new camera. It didn't, so I'll have to buy protection again. And will!

      My Cannon camera 's zoom lens quit after about 2 1/2 years. I had no problem returning the camera for repairs. It did take a long time 4-5 weeks ( as I remember) to hear back from them. The camera had been recalled. They gave me a full refund of the camera price. Since Cannon recalled the camera it would have been nice if they would have refunded the protection cost as well. Guess that would have been expecting to much. Still if you use the camera as much as I do getting the protection is a great idea. I bought it again on my replacement Cannon SX60

      Yes, when my camera slipped out of my hand and landed lens first on a random rock on a dirt trail, my first thought was "Thank goodness, I purchased a warranty"! In reality, redeeming the warranty was a bit more difficult than it should have been, but that was because the Geek Squad person I worked with was not familiar with the process. In the end, I, thankfully, was able to replace my camera with the same model.

      More robust than the TG-4

      Overall Olympus has the best imagery of all the waterproof point and shoots - the RAW is great but requires post processing to use in lightroom and other standard photo editing software. Biggest issue is the closure mechanism. They are small and easily undone. I've toasted two of the cameras while surfing - deeply disappointing. I've since moved to TG-870 which has a much more robust closure mechanism. Also the pano feature is whack and useless on TG-4.

      This is average. Most products don't give out prior to the one year...as witnessed by me when my camera quit functioning after the year was up. I think it would be useful in that first year unless you have a great credit card that will cover your product. Otherwise..I rarely buy these protections unless I am buying a product like a dishwasher, refrigerator, washing machine (anything that has water running through it).

      I have used the Geek Squad over the last few years on three different computers and have always been impressed with their professionalism, attention to detail and desire to resolve problems. I have taken my computer in to the store, and used their 24/7 on line services. Both have been great. The online services are particularly useful when I am out of the country and have problems with my computer.

      The protection plan is probably a lot better for other peoducts. I have a camera and every time it has to be send out to the repair and checking center it cames back with different issues. I do not like this at all. There should be a repair center close to us and the cameras shouldn't have to b sent out across the country for it.
