22, A Million, is the third record by Justin Vernon's alter ego Bon Iver. On 22, A Million Vernon varies his sound a bit. He goes beyond the stark sound and fragile voice of his earlier work, filtering his voice to sound like a benevolent robot or alien and even adding beats to 33 "God" and 10 dEAThbREasT, evoking Lost In The World, which he did with Kanye West. But 22, A Million is hardly a hook filled pop CD. Like Bon Iver's previous CDs, it's often slow and sprawling. It also is like the earlier music in its remarkable beauty. Much of 22, A Million is stark and personal but it has the fascinating feeling of a loner reaching out for contact.

This is an excellent and innovative album by Bon Iver. The tough part though was locating it at Best Buy. Online showed several copies were available at the Tempe store but the Tempe employees (when I could finally track one down) were unable to locate it in the store. Not surprising given how little effort Best Buy seems to make in maintaining their music and movie departments. Ultimately, after 40 minutes of searching in vein I left and later found it at their Phoenix store.

Justin Vernon and his band Bon Iver (plus Volcano Choir and Shouting Matches for that matter) are tremendous. But unfortunately this album didn't work for me. Some of the songs are terrific, but the production falls short in that it's too minimalist and processed. Clocking in at just over half an hour, the album also feels a little too lightweight for something that's been on the burner for over 5 years. Not bad by any means, but I hoped for more.

The first release was achingly awesome, but...

...now the pretentious recordings only sound like my speakers have been blown out. I understand his collaborations with James Blake have influenced what I'm sure he calls a progression. Listen, I love James Blake, but this is just feedback and noise. I won't be buying the next release until I have heard it first. I suggest that, if you haven't heard it yet, you should check out this one before you buy...!

Bon Iver is one of my favorite bands. This album is not for everyone, and it seems like people either love it or hate it. I happen to love it. Every bon iver album sounds dramatically different from the next and this one is no exception. I would call this an abstract piece of musical art. Justin Vernon is a genius.

This album is not a quick study, but slowly reveals itself over subsequent listenings. It is a collection of heartfelt pieces like Bon Iver"s previous releases, and unlike anything I have heard. This makes for great listening for many years to come. What more can you ask for from an artist?

Bon Iver fan. This one is different from the stripped down songs on "For Emma Forever Ago". More electronic/processed sounding...blips and bleeps. I like it though! Justin Vernon is spreading his musical wings I suppose. Kinda short...maybe 31 minutes. But that's OK.

Bon Iver's new work, 22 a Million is in my opinion their best work Justin Vernon has put together a complex set of melodies that have you moving from what feels like Electronica to Folk music and it all works together. I highly recommend this CD
