2 years in, still a solid multi-device solution!

This is a long-term review as I have owned and used this controller regularly for 2 years now. My most favorite feature is its inter-connectivity as I have been able to easily use this controller on my PC, Nintendo Switch, and phone and switch seamlessly between them just be moving the dipswitch in the back accordingly. The controller using a USB C connection is great and it's infinitely better in durability than the older micro USB standard. The overall button quality is good, although the analog sticks are inferior in control and responsiveness to modern Xbox controllers imo, but they're still very usable and good. Not the biggest fan of the D-pad, but I also haven't used it too much admittedly. Has gyro capabilities, but only when it's being used as a Switch controller I think and also think it cannot wake up the Switch. Its layout where the analog sticks are pretty close to the primary buttons on the right side can lead to some hand discomfort after long game sessions, but using claw grip has helped me here. Its overall build quality beats any third-party controller I've used in the past, although it's not as nice as first-party controllers. This controller is durable as after two years of regular, almost daily use, wear and tear is noticeable only on the analog sticks (see image). The controller is still completely functional though, just kind of ugly/gross due to my corrosive hands lol (perhaps covers for the analog sticks are something to consider). Battery life is very good as I can use it for multiple days before needing to charge it. It can be a little finicky with turning back on when trying to turn it off but this is kind of a nitpick. Overall, a really good, reliable controller with great connectivity that has withstood the test of time and has been well worth its price (bought while on discount). Highly recommended especially when on sale!

    Almost perfect-

The ergonomics are better than most other controllers at this price point. Triggers are precise, haptic feedback is strong and can be adjusted whenever with the Ultimate software app. The controller can be modified for a specific console/application too which is decent, though I kept mine stock. Anything you can think of tweaking with/on the controller can be done. Works perfectly on PC and Android, both wired and wirelessly. I would've given it five stars if it had no input lag when being used with Nintendo Switch. Barely had any when I used it with Xbox, which was easy to get over. It's very noticeable when playing fast paced SW titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, or Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Oh, and if you're into rhythm games on Switch like Project Diva or VOEZ I'd recommend using your joy-cons instead. I'd still highly recommend this controller for the affordable price tag, ergo, & build quality.

best 3rd party controller on the market

this controller connects to android and PC by bluetooth without issues. the face buttons and shoulder buttons press down nicely. the D-pad is a little bit mushy but is still the best for 3rd party. the start and select button are well placed unlike some of the newer controllers today. the controller is comfortable to hold for my small dude hands and the battery seems to last forever without charging. the biggest con is that the software does not work on windows 10. i was initially able to connect and update the firmware, but the software could not read the controller months later. i'm decently tech savvy and i have tried everything and it just won't connect. there are some other cons but some are my personal preference. the PSX color scheme looks great, but i wish the y x b a letters were printed on the controller itself instead of the buttons. i think they were trying to style it like the PSX, but the letter colors do not match the shape colors of the PSX controller. also, i believe there is no real warranty. it says 1 year warranty but i've read complaints that 8bitdo will have the customer ship the controller back to china for service. it won't be worth it shipping it there so it completely negates having a warranty. despite the flaws, i give this 8bitdo controller a 5/5 review because it is the best 3rd party controller on the market.
