Great for students
Posted .As a college student, I needed to get a new laptop that was light weight- to carry to and from class, something more up-to-date with Windows 7, and of course, relatively inexpensive. Where do I begin? This laptop is perfect for me, and probably for many of you readers. I'll start off by saying that the keyboard is absolutely outstanding. You can quickly adjust to the keys from what you are already use to, and best of all, the palm rest area (to the left and right of the scroll pad) is not glossy, it's tough to describe, it's almost rigid like plastic, but my point is that it doesn't show any hand marks or smudges. The screen is really impressive, both bright and clear with rather impressive graphics when watching movies. I would recommend a wireless mouse to go with this laptop, the scroll pad works fine, but it is not slick. In other words, you have to be very gentle scrolling your finger across it. I got a wireless mouse for about $7, it really helps out. That sums up the appearance for the most part, now let's talk about more in depth specifications. Right when you take it out of the box it is easy to set up, and the bloatware that comes with all new laptops is really set to a minimum on this one. I was expecting a ton of bloatware that would start the laptop off pretty slow, surprisingly, there were maybe 6-8 things I deleted in about 10 minutes (Bing search bar, wild tangent trial games, McAfee trial, etc) So far so good, and the laptop produces very little heat. I am almost shocked. It's been running for several hours and it's barely luke-warm. And just to let everyone know, I use this computer to write papers for school, internet browsing( e-mail, research, picture uploading, social networking), music playing, game playing (already installed on computer like solitare/poker) and occassional movie watching. If your uses for a laptop are similar to mine then this is the laptop for you. If you're in a need of something holding over 50 hrs of music, movies, 70,000 pictures, playing high-intense quality computer games then perhaps not. Otherwise, you won't be disappointed with this one. And for those who do end up buying this laptop, be sure to have 3 blank DVDs. Once your computer starts up, about 10 or so minutes in, you'll see a notification in the bottom right corner letting you know to create a recovery disc. Great laptop. 5/5!

Don't let the price fool you
Posted .After having the laptop for about 5 days now, I've put the little guy through its paces. It's far more than adequate for an inexpensive laptop. Display: The screen resolution isn't phenomenal, but it is far from poor. I had been looking for a 15 inch display, but after deciding on the smaller I'm not disappointed in the least. The widescreen layout seems to compensate for the perceptual difference in size. The brightness is excellent, and seems to reduce glare by simply powering through it. You'll actually find yourself turning the brightness down at night--unless you want to use it as a flashlight... Keyboard: Honestly, I'm not a fan of a flat key keyboard (it's reminiscent of Apple style keyboards), but the touch pressure seems very good. I'm a moderately "hard" typist, so an increased pressure for keystrokes is right up my alley. The keyboard size is just about perfect for me, and although this is a 14 inch display, the keyboard seems to fit my big clumsy hands very well. Performance: The processor is average, which for an inexpensive laptop is rare. For everything but 3D gaming, this processor seems to outperform the other processor offerings in inexpensive laptops (C and E series AMD, and most certainly the Atoms from Intel). It has no lag loading windows, and I haven't seem it struggle even with 4 large applications running (one of which is notorious for being memory intensive). Definitely use the ReadyBoost feature (using a USB drive to boost virtual memory) as another reviewer stated--it works wonders, and is a cheap way to really enhance performance. Overall, the laptop performs at a decent level, and only gamers will have anything to complain about. Webcam: It's a small resolution, but performs well. Touchpad: No issues, but I generally use a wireless mouse. Speakers: Tinny, and not very powerful--but do yourself a favor and get some cheap earbuds. With headphones you'll probably not pass 50 percent full volume (unless you're in a helicopter, or riding on the engine of a jet). I would say that the speakers are the only inadequate part of the laptop, even though there are two of them. Quality: I haven't found any glaring quality issues with the system as of yet (and I've been over it pretty well), so aside from tastes in color and/or textures, it seems to be a well-made piece of equipment. Overall: So far so good. I'd suggest that anyone looking in the $300-500 price range give this little guy long, hard consideration.

Sleek looking, new keyboard with decent speed.
Posted .This laptop is perfect for home use or travel out as it is ligth weight and with decent spec. I tested it out two days and found it has reached my satisfaction level of basic computing. The memory can be more but 2GB should be enough to cover regular tasks except gaming. The only draw back is that this NB does NOT have the easy memory-opening for adding or removing. Unlike other NB, the memory slot is usually located on the back of the NB and you can just unscrew to get to it. This NB is all enclosed onto its base and I have not yet found the opening to get to this memory slots or HD location. I will still use this NB though as its keyboards is very nice and there are 3 USBs on the sides. NO HDMI. CPU speed is acceptable though.

The little engine that could
Posted .I was in the market for a new laptop after my 6 year old Dell notebook bit the dust last month. I am an every-day computer user who needs it for the basics. i.e. emails, news, surfing the web . I tried the Acer One netbook, thinking that it would suit my purpose. I was not impressed with the AMD e series processor it had, so then I tried out an HP with a little more RAM and HD added and still thought the notebook was slow. I took that back as well and noticed this little little number on display. Let me say this, don't let the price fool you. It is more than efficient when it comes to doing the basics of computing. The intel celeron is what makes this . I was very impressed with its performance and what I like best is that this unit remains cool during usage. The screen size is perfect for my needs. It is almost in between a netbook and notebook. I like the keyboard and I have no qualms with the touchpad. If there is one drawback it is the speakers, but don't let that prevent you from getting this. Most low-end notebooks dont have the best built in speakers. I use earbuds if I am going to watch a movie or videos anyways. One other drawback would be opening up the back to add more RAM, but again, as other commenters pointed out, it's not impossible and you just need a little patience. I find I got the boost I needed with using a flashdrive with Readyboost. It's running like a charm and perhaps down the road I will add more memory, but for now I don't need it. I am really impressed with Acer and there really isn't much bloatware that comes with it and it is easy to remove. My opinion is to download CCleaner after you uninstall what you want, that way you can clean the registry and you also disable many of the needless start up enteries. You will notice a huge difference. So if you are in the market for a great little notebook that won't deplete your wallet I highly recommend this little gem.

RAM Question?
Posted .I just purchased this laptop and am very pleased with it. If you do a little research, you will discover that the new Celeron processors are dual core and are based on the i3 architecture. Intel just disables the hyperthreading feature. Very snappy. Notebook check website puts the p4600 Celeron cpu as faster than the Core 2 Duo's of the same ghz speed. Anyone who owns this or a similar 14" Acer, could you please take a moment and answer this question for me. It would very much appreciated. I noticed there are no panels on the bottom to upgrade the RAM. I just bought this Laptop and was wondering how hard it was to upgrade? Is it just a matter of removing the bottom of the laptop or do I need to remove the bottom, keyboard, track pad, etc like on the Acer netbooks? If you had the time for mild instructions, that would be great. Thanks. PS. I'm very tech saavy and have built many desktops from scratch, but laptops are a different challenge sometimes. Thanks.

Amazing Computer at double the price!
Posted .FIRST: The 1 Star review left by "Don't Buy It" is a hoax. He has never had this computer, so please disregard it. I bought this on Thursday and set it up right out of the box, made the RECOVERY SOFTWARE, and ran it thru it's paces. It is a great little computer. The new P-Series Celeron is amazing, and it is a dual-core processor as well. The WiFi is good, and web-cam works well, and overall, this would be a great traveler for student or business-person. I am truly amazed at this computer in every way. Also, mine had a 320GIG hard drive and not the 250GIG in the ad. Then, I popped off the bottom, put in a 500 GB/7200rpm hard drive, bumped the ram to 8 GIG, and reloaded it and I have a barn-burner. It runs like a top and is fun to work with. The Windows 7 Assessment scores are : 5.7 for processor; 7.1 for RAM; 4.7 for standard graphics; 5.2 for gaming graphics; and 5.9 for Hard Drive. With those kind of scores, good looks, simplicity, great display, fast wireless, pretty good battery time, and nice keyboard, this is a STEAL for $280.00. Please get one before they are gone. It is a wonderful little notebook.

Wonderful notebook.
Posted .I bought this laptop after going into Best Buy with the intent to purchase a Lenovo. Unfortunately, the Lenovo they had out on display wasn't going to be sold until the next day. I needed a notebook pc and did a little browsing after deciding on this Acer Aspire 4339. I settled, but it's exceeded expectations. Sure, most of the performance and productivity can be attributed to how wonderful Windows 7 is, but even then, this is a nice little laptop. First off, battery life is great. Even when the battery icon is low, the computer runs and runs. And when it does run down, the adapter provided gives a nice, quick charge. The display is nice. There is a glare every now and then, but that comes with the glossy screens. Despite this, you get used to it. The notebook runs incredibly quiet. I cannot hear it at all. It's incredibly portable. The 14" screen is plenty for viewing, but small enough for high portability. It has a quick start-up out of the box. Not really any bloatware to deal with, besides a games application that has maybe 30 games (which is entirely uninstallable). The trackpad is a little laggy, but that can be fixed with a simple wired/wireless mouse. The design was perhaps the least appealing aspect of the computer when I bought it. However, after only using it for a day or two, it's grown on me. Like I said before, this is a wonderful notebook. In fact, the only qualm I have is with the manufacturer and not the notebook. I contacted them regarding a RAM upgrade, and they said that don't have the specifications for that. Oh well, 2 GB is enough for most applications.

A great Laptop for a low price
Posted .The Laptop is very great. Do not be nervious about the price you will be very pleased. It is SUPER light weight and a intel celeron dual core procccessor. It is 14" which is just right for me. The battery lasted me a good 3 hours before it had to be plugged in. I was going to chose a netbook but they are not really that great. The screen is not that great and I didn't like the keyboard on a netbook. So I chose this laptop. It is not glossy which I also like. Its not Matte either. I'm not sure what material you call it but it feels great. The Laptop does not feel cheap and feels pretty strong. Also if you travel a lot this will be prefect. It is very light weight to it will not strain your back like those more expensive laptops. The touchpad feels great and the mouse bar is easy to press. It DOES NOT have a number keypad. So if your someone who must have it than try something else. Also it includes Kaspersky anti-virus sofeware so you will not need to buy other anti-virus sofeware. All in all for 279.00 (295.67 witth tax) you will get a great laptop for your money. Do not get a netbook. Those are slow and the keyboard is very small. If you have any questions post them and I will answer.

Q: Questionis this a good laptop for the price and does it come with microsoft word?
Asked by kdot.
- A:Answer This laptop is an incredible deal. Easily the best bargain for a budget laptop that I have seen. Is it a high powered laptop? No. Is it well worth $279? Absolutely. The Celeron p4600 cpu is based on the newest Intel architecture, same build as the higher priced Intel i3 cpu. The difference is that Intel disables the hyper-threading feature on this cpu and sells it under the Celeron name. You're basically getting the newest designed Intel i3 dual core cpu, just with out the hyper-threading and for a lot less money. Slick deal if you ask me. This notebook comes with 2 gb of DDR3 ram, which is the latest ram on the market. 2 gb is plenty of ram for watching videos, using itunes, using MS Word, and browsing the internet. If you are a heavy user or a multi-tasking machine, then you can upgrade the ram to 4gb or 8gb. 4gb will cost about $25 if you install it yourself. 8 gb of ram will cost about $50 if you install it yourself, but only gamers or video editors will need that much and this is not a gaming machine. Even if you upgrade the ram to 4gb, this is still the best deal for a budget laptop. The laptop comes with a 250 gb hard drive, but actually has a 300 gb hard drive in it. The specs say it is 250 gigs, but it is actually 300 gigs. Not sure why, but not going to complain. Again, this is another component that is easily upgrade a year or so down the road if you need more space. The way I look at it, Acer did us a favor by offering us a basic laptop that is very flexible and easy to upgrade. Manufacturers charge a premium for more ram and bigger hard drives. By offering a basic, but very capable laptop, the buyer can upgrade only what they want and for a fraction of the price the manufacturer would charge. If you're even mildly tech savvy, you could upgrade this notebook 8gb of ram and a 500 gig, 7200 rpm hard drive for about $100. You would still have less that $400 into this thing and it would be worlds better than anything else in the price range. But... even if you never upgrade it, this laptop is pretty snappy the way it is. The laptop comes with MS Word, but not the whole MS Office suite. You will need to purchase MS Office if you want more than just MS Word.
