The Tablet that functions as a notebook
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendAbout seven years ago, I bought my first notebook crush; an Acer Aspire 9800 for like $3K. Several people that saw me with that huge computer, complained to me because they felt that it was too big and bulky to be considered a portable notebook. These same people were not trying to hear me out as I tried my best to explain to them that they were basically hating on a replacement desktop computer that thinks it's a notebook. I loved that bulky contraption because although it looked too big to be a notebook, it had its advantages: like a full size keyboard and a 21" screen! Fortunately for the haters, the hard drive recently crashed. I guess I blame myself for that...don't ask. So, now, that I am ready to move on from that first notebook crush, I have decided to look for a nice inexpensive Tablet, but I must be satisfied. Well, I went to Best Buy thinking that I was going to buy a Tablet because I wasn't looking to spend no $700 plus dollars on a computer. But I felt like I'd be really happy if I could get a Tablet with a keyboard and not have to shell out hundreds of extra dollars just for my satisfaction. The Acer Aspire Switch 10 is exactly what I was looking for. It stood out for me out of all those other Tablets; I just kept starring at it. I mean, for just under $350 bucks, I can actually buy a Tablet that comes with a keyboard? And I would be foolish to complain about this keyboard because it is included in the box with the Tablet! Oh, and I have to mention that not only does the keyboard deliver for me but I find the keys to be way more comfortable to the touch than that other Acer notebook that I have been clinging onto for the past seven years. It definitely feels great to know that I can use the Aspire Switch 10 as a notebook with the keyboard or I can even remove the computer from the keyboard at ease and use it as a Tablet whenever I want. I can just detach the Tablet from the keyboard by lifting it up from one corner. I am very glad that I decided to buy this computer because I don't feel like I miss my Acer Aspire 9800 bulky notebook. That's a good sign for me because it's tuff for me to let go of something that I've been with for so long. So, if Acer Aspire Switch 10 has my attention, I know I got the right computer, right now. I wanted a Tablet. Well, I got an Acer Aspire Switch 10 Tablet that acts like a notebook with an included keyboard that is well designed for it. The keys are soft and they don't make too much noise when typing. Also, I didn't expect a full version of MS Office 2013 to be included. How about that? I notice that this computer doesn't come with a Tablet pen. But, hey, if you ask me, I'd rather have an included full version of MS Office 2013 as opposed to a Tablet pen with a trial version of MS Office. Besides, I don't actually need a Tablet pen because the Acer Aspire's touch screen can handle my finger with no problem. There's just one thing I feel that is not so great about this computer. On my old computer, I could use a function key to turn off the display screen backlight to save power. I didn't do that to put the big and bulky Acer Aspire 9800 to sleep. I did that because I still wanted to hear my music playing in the background while the backlight was turned off. For instance, I might have to step away temporarily to answer the front door or something. When I'd get back, I could just swipe the touch pad with my finger and the display screen comes back on with my music still playing. But here's the problem I have with this Acer Aspire Switch 10 when attempting to still hear my music while leaving the computer to do something: Somehow the Acer Aspire Switch 10 thinks that the Sleep hotkey is the same as the Display-Off hotkey. So, when I use the Display-Off hotkey my music stops playing in the background as if I had put the computer to sleep. Basically, I notice that the Acer Aspire Switch 10 goes to Sleep Mode automatically if you do not use the keyboard, the touchscreen, or the touchpad, before the elapsed time that you set under the power settings for Sleep Mode. Why should that be, if you didn't actually tell the computer to go to sleep? I mean, all you did was turn-off the display screen backlight. So, you might find yourself leaving the backlight on all the time or setting Sleep Mode to kick on much later than usual when listening to music or downloading files that will take hours to complete. I'll give you an example of something that happened to me. One time I had a 1 GB file to download. I fell asleep. When I woke up hours later thinking the download was done, I swiped my finger on the touchpad, and to my surprise the download stopped within 10 minutes because Sleep Mode was set to 10 minutes by default. In order for the download to complete, I would've had to set Sleep Mode to NEVER. Dorn-it. Overall, I am satisfied with the Acer Aspire Switch 10. It has what I need right now, a full function Tablet, an included keyboard to turn the Tablet into a notebook, a built in camera and microphone, Bluetooth, an included full version of MS Office 2013, and all this for just under $350 bucks. I'm not going to complain about this product because there clearly is no need to. And, yes, I am satisfied. But, I still got haters. That's fine, cause I'm still keeping my Acer Aspire Switch 10; it passed as my first Tablet/Notebook crush :) Best Buy, I kindly thank you for selling my first and favorite Tablet/Notebook PC.

Tablet is Good but Win8 still needs work
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI've had this tablet about 3 months and I've been using it heavily. I've managed to get everything I need done while only having to open up my full size laptop or turn on my Galaxy Note 8.0 on a few occasions. It's a good tablet with some quirks. Pros: Screen and resolution are good. Everything is nice and sharp. Touch responses are accurate and fast. The tablet dock is awesome and the ability to "switch" it around and use it in different configurations is great. Full Windows has its perks for sure. The things I used to have to turn on my full-size laptop are almost gone. Working in MS Office on this device is not bad either. Undocked the tablet is light enough to comfortably hold for a good amount of time before your hand gets tired or you start getting uncomfortable. The battery is pretty amazing and I've been able to watch 2 full movie with using HDMI-out to my TV and still had over half the battery left. Windows does a good job in integrating the "touch environment" into the PC world. The tablet and OS itself is pretty intuitive and you won't have a hard time adjusting if you are already familiar with Windows 7 or 8 desktops. Dual stereo speakers are also nice sounding. Cons: Now for the bad. Space space space space. Microsoft and vendors still need to work on being more up front about how much space is yours to use. I bought a 32gig open box, and my struggle is maintaining space on the device. If you try to use it out of the box without added some type of external storage to the device you will quickly become frustrated. First thing I did when I bought the device was install Office and went to the Market to find the apps that I had installed on m 16gig Android tablet. I found some of them and a few small games I wanted to try. After installation and updates I had about 5gig free. After I synchronized my email and OneDrive I had about 4gig. Doing some Bing searching I found some sites where people give you some tips on how to free up some space. You'll definitely need to buy an micro-SD card for extra storage, there is absolutely no way around it. After some tweaking and uninstalling of bloatware I have managed to keep a steady 8gig free. The next few cons are also Windows 8 related. 1.) Screen timeout on Metro IE, 2.) 2gig Ram is just enough for the conservative user, 3.) App ecosystem is pretty light, but on the Brightside full flash gives you access to apps and games not available Android or IOs., 4.) If you have a Google account it won't integrate smoothly with Windows 8 Metro. To sum it up, I feel that Win8 still has a little ways to go, but it's getting there. I wouldn't feel comfortable give this device to my mom expecting her to be happy with it. It has solid performance and if you are looking to try out Win8 and start making the migration this is a good step. I'm hoping this device will get the free Windows 10 upgrade when it comes out.

The best cheap 2-in-1 hybrid tablet
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThe Good... Very bright IPS display. Colors look good, easy to read. It's only 1366x768 which is a negative for tablet mode, but a pro for laptop mode (no DPI scaling needed). Build quality is surprisingly solid for a device this cheap. Much better than the ASUS T100. Faux aluminum back almost feels like aluminum, doesn't show fingerprints or feel slippery. Neither tablet nor device creak or flex. Typing on the keyboard feels as good as one can expect for a keyboard this size. Feels better than the Lenovo Yoga 2 keyboard, also found it slightly better than the ASUS T100 too. Front facing speakers sound good. The Bad... Battery life is mediocre. It only has a 6000 mAh battery (the ASUS T100 has an 8000 mAh battery) and it barely seems to get 7 hours. That's not terrible, but for something with a Baytrail processor it should be a bit more. Also, despite having a dedicated charging port, it charges fairly slow. Windows button behaves odd. Despite me praising the seemingly solid build of the tablet, I do have one odd issue. It could be just my unit. But sometimes when I'm holding the tablet on the bezel, no were near the Windows button I feel the tablet vibrate and it acts as if the Windows button was pressed, taking me back to the Start screen or the previous app. I can't seem to duplicate the issue, it's random while holding it and seems to happen when I'm holding the bezels in landscape, ie my hands as far away from the Windows button as possible. Strange issue. Also sometimes the Windows button stops working all together. After waiting a few seconds and trying again it usually works then. The Ugly... The trackpad is just brutal. The trackpad works fine when you want to use it, it's just a problem the rest of the time when you don't mean to use it. I'll be typing and the mouse goes shooting off somewhere. It seems there is no accidental touch detection in place. There is no included trackpad software, it just uses the Microsoft drivers, and Acer has no trackpad drivers on their website for this device that I found. I can toggle the trackpad off with Fn-F7 and use the touch screen or external mouse. Summary... It's a very good device overall. But obviously something this cheap will have some flaws and sacrifices. Battery life, limited storage, overly sensitive trackpad. But for anyone looking for a very cheap Windows tablet and netbook, I think this may be the best you'll find for now. It's definitely superior to the ASUS T100 in every way except battery life.

Great laptop replacement!
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendAfter my last laptop died, I wanted a hybrid to replace it, and this has done pretty well- it's Acer's first try, so there are understandably some bugs, but for the price I can't complain! A couple things to keep in mind; -it's memory is a bit small, so you will definitely want to add a 32 gig micro as card -I am still very reliant on CDs/DVDs, so I had to purchase an external burner

Best bang for your buck
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis is one of the best Netbook/Tablet combo around. The tablet disconnects from the keyboard very easily no fumbling just pull on one side and it's free. It also can be turned around to sit on top of the keyboard. It has Widows 8.1 full version no stripped down junk or jelly beans here however it's a 32 bit operating system and not 64 bit as Best Buy, states on their web site . It's very fast for a product of this nature and is sturdier than most of the others I have seen. Also the price can't be beat it has the most reasonable price for a combo such as this one. I have seen most of the others on the market as I have been shopping for a good one for a long time and the others are way over priced and most of them don't even come with a full version operating system. Also comes with Microsoft Office for home and students which has everything the average person want's it is not a trial version it's a full version with a product key. The build is very strong and the battery lasts a long time so what more can be asked of it. The only thing I don't like is the mouse pad which is very sensitive to my touch and I see no way to change that so I had to buy a usb mouse and that fixed the problem for me. This is the only reason I gave it a good rating instead of an exelent one for "Ease of Use"

Great Value and Features
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendPurchased 6/1/2014, just arrived in store and only one in stock and one on display. I wanted to learn Windows 8 without buying another device similar to what I already own. This was the least expensive device I could find that was like a Surface and like a small laptop computer in one unit running win 8.1. This device is perfect to move into win8 on a small budget and with lots of features. It is not an Apple Air, or a Ultrabook, but it is like having both on a small scale. Speed is decent and with USB and Micro SD expansion, a nice keyboard, small footprint, sturdy case, and easy to separate the keyboard, nothing could be better for the price that I have seen. Learning win8 is the challenge. I am happy and coming from me that says a lot. While learning win8, I can surf the internet, check email and Facebook PLUS it comes with free Office 2013 home/ student once you figure how to make it active with the free provided Product a Key. Nice Display too. Again, not a Surface, iPad air, or Ultrabook, but I have those, I want something cheap that runs win8 and more than a tablet. Not easy to set up or learn, but you have to start somewhere. Thanks ACER.

Simply Awesome for the Money
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendAfter reading some reviews on here I was hesitant on purchasing this Tablet/PC/Netbook. I'm so glad I decided to go to the store and play with it and deciding to buy it. For my purposes it is absolutely perfect. I've been wanting something like this so I don't have to lug my main laptop around with me when I go on vacation or out of town. (I'm always on call at work). I needed a computer that I could remote into my systems from wherever I am. I thought about purchasing a Surface Pro, but the price was just too high for me to justify. The switch is able to run all of my remote viewing software with ease, and it is quite snappy for an Atom processor. The keyboard is comfortable for as small as it is, however if you lean the screen too far back, the keyboard dock is not heavy enough to keep the screen from falling down to the desk. Just know what you're getting before you purchase. It's a 32GB model, with only 18GB of usable space after the OS and recovery eat up 14GB of space. This is fine for me, because I'm not going to need 18GB for apps, and with the microSD Card, I'll put all of my media and other files off of the tablet's internal storage. My only quam is with the battery life. It's not terrible, I can squeeze about 7-8 hours out of it as long as I'm not watching movies, or any other graphics/processor intensive program. Movie time drops the battery life to around 5-6 hours. Again, for the price, not bad at all. Again, for me, this is a perfect fit. I don't need it to run processor intensive programs, I have a $2,000 desktop setup for that, but for my on the go needs, this has been one of the best purchases I've made. I'm even doing this review using my Switch!

Asked by celred.
- A:Answer It does not use Windows RT, it's full Windows 8.1 32-Bit. It will connect to an external hard drive just fine. It has one USB port on the keyboard dock, and as long as your printer has Windows 8 driver available, it should work just fine.

Q: QuestionIs there a multi media card reader?
Asked by ACDC.
- A:Answer No you have to connect one via the usb port. However there are no tablets or tablets/netbooks/ or tablets/laptops that have them. They all only have the option of connecting a usb one as far as I checked so far.
