Glad I got it!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ordered this at the beginning of this week and received a day early. Love this Chromebook. After reading a ton of reviews I did have a concern relating to the hinge.....no worries. This is a beautiful solidly built laptop and I have no issues with the hinge. The Chromebook itself is beautiful, loads pages and videos quickly, and the screen is great and very clear. Of course it boots up very quickly and the battery life on this laptop is phenomenal...at least 12 hours which means I can bring to all day conferences and not worry about bringing the charger. The keyboard is excellent and easy to type on. I have mac laptops, windows pc's, and several chrome books and always seem to come back to my chromebook. The operating system is just more interesting with the least amount of care and of course the new Play Store is great too offering more opportunities for additional apps not available in the web store. I bring to work every day and it really is not that heavy...which I'm glad of because I can't carry heavy items. If you're looking for a great chromebook I highly recommend the Acer R13! You'll love it.....

Excellent convertible chromebook.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had purchased th 11 inch ACER R11 convertible chrome books for my small business and I find they are good little workhorses but when I found out there was an R-13 I jumped at the opportunity to try it out. I love the larger screen. Still has a very robust build quality and is roughly the same weight as its smaller counterpart. I liked it so much I ended up buying 2. There are fewer and fewer reasons for me to need a windows or Mac machine in my business. As long as it can be done in chrome, it can be done on these little convertibles handily.

I love it.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first new computer. I brought my brother along because he knows computers and what I may need. I'm totally happy with this computer. Great screen (not so great in the dark because of reflection), fast ,light, and compact. I always have Internet access so it works for me and does everything I need it to. If I need to do things offline I can (but haven't needed to yet).

Excellent laptop replacement
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I found I was using my cellphone more often than my laptop to complete a variety of tasks; but I wanted a full keyboard. When my HP Pavilion (with Windows Vista) really began to creak along and my Microsoft Word program had been replaced by an upgrade forcing me to begin to use Google Docs and Google Drive on my laptop, I realized I didn't need a conventional laptop anymore. This Chromebook was worth waiting for because it will eventually be home to Android apps as well. The unit is all metal and exceeds my expectations for durability and convenience. I hope Google maintains its "open" system instead of becoming the Microsoft "upgrade software annually by buying new software" system. I realize some folks may need specialized programs and require an "old-fashioned" laptop; for me, the Chromebook is quiet (no fan), starts up pronto and the keyboard on this Acer is just as easy as the one on my old HP. Saving $50.00 because of Best Buy sale was icing on the cake.

Future Proof, Not Perfect
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This chromebook had all the future-proof things I was looking for: -USB-C charging -Touch Screen -Android app compatible It also has great battery life, 10-12 hours depending on use. The hinges work well. The screen will wobble if you are poking the touch screen in laptop mode, but any laptop will do that. In normal use, the hinges are great. The one issue I had (and I knew it when I purchased it) is that it has a micro SD card slot instead of a regular SD card slot. This would be great for amateur photography, but now I need to buy a micro SD card and an adapter in order to get photos from my camera to the chromebook. I would have given 5 stars if it had a regular SD slot.

One of the best Chromebooks you can buy!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Build quality is great and the performance is good for an arm based Chromebook. Display is good at all angles and the keyboard has great travel. A good buy if you like the 13inch form factor.

Really wanted to love this Chromebook
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: Very fast. Compatible with the Play store. Very light Long battery life Cons: Strange aspect ratio Buggy - flipping to tablet mode shut off the screen, so I had to keep my finger in between when trying to use as a tablet. Apps frequently froze and when the screen would rotate, the window sizes did not adjust properly. After 2 weeks, the mouse pad already felt like it was "rattling" and not likely to make it that long.

Great for surfing and streaming
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a google fanboy I guess you could say and have had my eyes on a Chromebook for quite some time but they were never quite up to the spec I was looking for. This one fit the bill, bigger screen with a better processor and memory than the Chromebooks of old. The responsiveness is really good and if you are a limited user looking to replace a lower end laptop with something, the R13 is probably a good bet. I wasn't looking for a full flag replacement of a more powerful laptop but rather something with a larger screen than a tablet and a keyboard. The HDMI output and being fully "castable" to the Chromecast on my TV means I can watch a lot of stuff and beam it to the larger screen if I need/want to. Overall I'm very happy with the build quality, the hinges initially made me hesitate but thus far after about a month of use they seem very robust and sturdy.

Q: QuestionDoes it run Android apps?
Asked by JusMe.
- A:Answer It currently runs Android apps in the beta preview, which you can access buy going the to "about" section of your Chromebook (At the top of the settings menu). That being said, it will likely be in the stable channel in the next month of two if you want to wait (It may be there now if you're reading this in 2017). It should be noted that without GPS or an accelerometer, some apps may be unstable or not run at all. Also, some apps, as is true for all Android tablets, only run in portrait mode, so son't expect to be able to use the Keyboard and snapchat at once. There are TONs of positives too however, and I wouldn't let these small inconveniences be the deciding factor in your purchase decision. For an FYI, the Asus Chromebook flip is a smaller chromebook, but is among the first that will get Android Apps in the stable channel, as announced by Google and has comparable specs for RAM and storage to this model.

Q: QuestionThis states it has 8GB RAM, but I have only seen this spoken of with a set 4GB nonupgradable RAM on all other sites and reviews. Can you confirm that this really offers a 8GB RAM 64GB storage model? Thank you
Asked by geko.
- A:Answer It only has 4GB RAM. The product description has now been updated to reflect this. Originally the product description on BestBuy was wrong. When I bought it on 10/21 from one of the local BestBuys (somehow one location had it in stock a week before all the others in town), the description of the product online was incorrect, showing 8GB. I still bought it because some quick searching on Acer's website showed that they weren't going to offer this with 8GB at all anyway.

Q: QuestionHow does this work in streaming videos via Netflix, Amazon, etc? I would like to use it to watch movies and TV shows.
Asked by Shays.
- A:Answer Streaming videos look great. I like that (as with all 2-in-1's) you can fold the screen back and set the R13 in presentation mode to watch a movie. The speakers are okay, nothing special but certainly not bad. You might want to use headphones. The battery life on this unit is amazing -- no problem getting through a long, long movie.

Q: QuestionDoes this chromebook auto update the software system that comes with it to the latest one? Does it download apps? Like something similar to Windows. What is the latest version of chromebook? Where can I get the latest / more info from?
Asked by Lizette.
- A:Answer Good questions. Yes, this Chromebook, like basically all Chromebooks, auto updates. One of the very nice features of Chromebooks (to me) is that the update process is crazy fast -- basically just a reboot, and in seconds you are back to work/play. You can download apps from the Chrome Store; there is a ton of stuff there but if there are particular apps you are interested in you might check to see what is there. The Acer R13 is one of a small crop of the "latest" Chromebooks (and quite a nice one, I think). It gives you the ability to download and run android apps (the same that you would on an android phone) which expands the capability of a Chromebook. When I research a computer purchase, I look at customer reviews here and on Amazon (real world usage is very valuable; I tend to disregard reviews, however, that are clearly grumpy or unrealistic); then I turn to Google, and type something like "Acer R13 Chromebook reviews" and browse through the results. These will generally offer you different tech websites with their reviews of products, which can be helpful. Good luck!

Q: Questionwill I be able to use Microsoft office? I am a college student and I need the basic must-haves (Word, Excel, PP) would this be considered good for easy, on the go studying, having multiple windows open at once? please let me know :)
Asked by RSontay.
- A:Answer Yes. You can open and modify Word, Excel and PowerPoint programs. You also have access to similar Google programs such as Google Slides, Google Drive, Google Docs, etc. Good for on the road studying with multiple programs open at once.

Q: QuestionI'm used to using an hp for work-how is this similar and different? I definitely want a touchscreen!
Asked by Mom2boys.
- A:Answer I had a HP chromebook prior to having the acer touch screen and i needed to replace the HP due to a digital "crack" in the screen (it was a well loved, well used HP), i can say, i LOVE the touchscreen and it is the exact same working system as the HP chromebook. it is slimmer and about an inch smaller than my HP but i actually like the size and build of the acer better. went to best buy to check them out, did a ton of online research and I am very happy with it. I am in school and take it everywhere with me, is great for down time too. I have used it for everything from videos for class, research, writing papers, power points and just chilling watching netflix. i have gotten so used to the touch screen i have caught myself reaching up to touch screens that haven't had the upgrade yet! lol Hope this helps.
