With the character creation aspect being the gimmick of this year's Skylanders release, these items are necessary to fully enjoy the experience. The blinking light inside the crystal is a nice aesthetic touch.

Kids like to create characters with these crystals. Make sure not create duplicate ability. Once you select the character ability it cannot be changed.
