    Original Take on Vampire Films

First, this is "found footage"... Personally, something I enjoy, but disagrees with some people... Be forewarned. Afflicted follows two young men traveling Europe after one is diagnosed with a brain issue that could kill him at any time. They decide to roam Europe, enjoy life, and film it all, posting to a travel blog along the way. 80% of Afflicted is enthralling, great, and original in many ways, while the other 20% comes off as formulaic to the point where it can affect the total enjoyment of the film- especially the final 15 minutes. But, where the ending is perhaps the weakest of the film, much of the rest is very good, following along from the night our victim first gets bitten and through his ongoing transformation (this is perhaps the strongest part of the film). Where he originally finds his ongoing transformation incredible- becoming incredibly strong and fast, that changes as the sun begins bothering him and he can't hold down food. There's even a pretty solid "out of nowhere" scene halfway through the film that only adds to the storytelling, but that's also the trigger that begins the decline in the overall movie, as well. From this point on, an original vampire film begins leaking in action scenes that would seem more at home in a vampiric version of Taken, and eventually running into a wall at the end. Simply, it seemed like the screenwriters had a great idea but weren't exactly sure how to end it before their pitch and deadline approached. Rather than rely on the originality they showed throughout the first half of the film, they fell back on typical action/ revenge tropes. (I will say that in the midst of one of these scenes, I did have to admire the first-person filming- some of the best I've seen). Definitely worth checking out, especially in a genre that's been gumming its way through theaters lately, rather than sinking its teeth in.

New life to found footage movies, insanely good!

The trailer looked amazing for this movie and I was worries the film wouldn't deliver, I was 100% wrong. It exceeded all of my expectations and completely reinvents the found footage movie. It's not often you watch a movie and think "how the heck did they do that??" But this film has dozens of those moments, where in a single POV shot the lead character jumps out a third story window and continues being pursued down the streets of Paris. The parkour stunts are INSANE in this movie! The characters are like able and it really feels like you're watching two friends documenting this event. Found footage has become such a tired genre, but this film is by far in the top 5! Don't read too much about it before watching, it will spoil some surprises. Cannot recommend this enough for fans of horror and indie films. Just wish it had a bigger theatrical run, this film deserves way more attention than it got.

First of all, please stop reading if you haven't yet watched this film. While I'm not going to give spoilers per se, I am going to reveal a somewhat surprise twist concerning the type of movie this is. I came to the movie by way of its excellent trailer. Today it seems many trailers give away too much information about the movie that are advertising. Obviously that wasn't the case with this film, because I had no idea it was a vampire movie. It put a fresh spin on all the vampires tropes, like aversion to daylight and stakes through the heart. The acting of two main characters was genuine and believable. That's probably because they are actually longtime friends, according to one of the special feature bits provided on the blu-ray. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and am impressed by the make-up effects also, which were outstanding.

I was blown away with the story and the movie! i first saw Afflicted as an advanced screener and I truly enjoyed it. I was able to enjoy the movie fully finished on bluray. It's 2 first time directors who had a lifetime experience together as friends and co-directors. This is their first Hollywood movie and the acting and the directing are both great in the this movie. The handheld camera twist was interesting. It was great watching the character deeper down after the initial infection. I truly recommend Affliction because it is a surprise horror hit that no one would have expected.

The vampire genre has been done before and in many ways. But Afflicted gives us a new take on the genre. The acting is fantastic. Also the use of the found footage type filming is also not bad as some of the more recent films to use found footage hasn't been the best. Either way if you like to see fresh takes on old films and old horror type monsters like vampires this is your movie.

Very much Chronicle + [insert vampire movie here], Afflicted is an interesting addition to the vampire genre. Some pretty good ideas; the found footage cam aspect works here, even though I'm still not really a fan. The writer/director team certainly seem talented, I'm interested to see what they will do next. Very promising.

The movie is a found footage type film as two friends go on a journey across Europe as one friend is about to die from a terminal disease. However he is attacked by a woman he was with for a one night stand and afterwards realizes he is starting to have changes.

Not really a fan of found footage style films, but Afflicted is the best found footage style movie to date. The movie has good acting, and action scenes that were in first person view that's intense, fun and well put together. Afflicted is a movie worth seeing.
