Amazing laptop for a reasonable price
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I waited weeks before giving a review to ensure I am giving an accurate review. This machine has been flawless. The display provides a crisp and smooth view. The 4080 provides a respectable level of future proofing whether you game, 3d model, or simply watch videos. The 1TB storage is enough for moderate use and certainly enough to start with. Alienware control center allows many things to be done easily. Whether you want to add personalization via rgb lighting or overclock for maximum performance, it's only a few clicks away. Personally, I chose to upgrade the RAM to 64gb for 3d scanning operations along with adding an additional 4TB m.2 drive. I don't hold these upgrades against this unit, it was much more cost effective to add myself. Also, the upgrades can easily be done by anyone with a precision screw driver set. If you are planning on being mobile with this laptop, I do suggest purchasing a lightweight power supply.

Powerful gaming laptop for the power users!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great laptop overall. Cpu runs a little warm in my opinion but still maintains boost at them temps so all is well. Upgradable storage and ram! Screen is not an Oled so not 5 stars but a beautiful 240hz screen nonetheless. Colors are excellent. Speakers are lacking but thats common laptop problem. 4080 is a beast even in a laptop. Don't run it on battery so i don't know how it does.

Solid, minus QC issues on my first unit
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this laptop on sale, surprising amount of power for the price. First unit I ordered in store for delivery as the store I went to didn't carry this model. Upon receiving the model and starting the setup, the first reboot the unit blue screened. It took that first unit about 5 minutes to boot again and I got a "time/date not set in bios" message. This unit continued to have this issue (happened 5 times and each time got the same time/date not set message after a very long boot) and blue screens and over the course of a day I got about 1/2 way to actually setting up the laptop and decided it was defective and that I should exchange it. Found a store nearby that carried this model so I went in and did a very painless exchange. I'm glad I did! The replacement has been flawless. My previous laptop was a strix with 13980hx that was having issues (stability issues as being reported online?) where my 2nd m.2 drive would drop (pci express or I/O intel error?) requiring a reboot. So after reading about the current Intel problems I wanted an AMD machine. There's a few major potential deal breakers and some minor quibbles for this machine other than the potential for a doa/lemon that I feel people should know about. #1. The 7845hx consumes way too much power at idle for this to be anything but a DTR (desktop replacement). Lowest I have seen at idle in windows through HWinfo is 10 watts. It typically uses around 20 watts at IDLE. I haven't done any real testing but would imagine that the battery life is very bad even for a DTR machine like this. #2. All of the ports except the HDMI connect to the integrated graphics. I have an older 160hz ultrawide that has the older HDMI 2.0 so at best I can get 1440p @ 85hz. So it's either that or optimus at the full 1440p 160hz for me. This issue might not be a big deal for everyone though. #3. There is no usb-c charging at all. So you have to carry the giant power brick everywhere you want to take it (it's not a GaN like just about every other laptop made these days) . Again if you plan on only having this machine connected to AC power all of the time this shouldn't be an issue. #4. There's no way to set any power limits on the CPU and this thing will constantly bump up against tjunction of 100c. I don't know if the "element 31" thermal paste solution is the issue. Changing performance profiles doesn't change CPU power limits - even on "battery mode" it will still push 100+ watts to the cpu. For such an "enthusiast" level machine there is very little to tune here. I'm the kind of person that likes to tune power limits to balance performance with fan noise. The only thing the performance profiles do is adjust the fan curve. You can set manual mode and do a temperature offset of 15 to reduce the maximum cpu temp to 85c but that's not always 100% accurate. I have seen 92c when gaming, even after limiting the processor temp both in manual mode and even the setting in BIOS. There's also unfortunately no way to use something like Universal x86 Tuning Utility to limit power/change adaptive mode, etc as my time trying to use this caused multiple blue screens of the "power driver failure" variety. Makes sense, as they specifically list these Dragon Range CPUs as being unsupported. Which is a shame as the limited time I could get some parts of the UXTU sort of working is that this CPU doesn't need the 120+ watts that this machine attempts to feed to it. Limiting the CPU temperature to 70c (which was 100% unstable for the most part) saw cpu benchmarks lose less than 10% and power consumption to about 75 watts. If there was only a way to limit the power on this enthusiast level machine (isn't that what Alienware claims to be?) I would imagine limiting cpu power to 75w would be very beneficial to temps and fan noise with an imperceptable margin of error reduction to cpu performance. That's a lot of negatives but I feel the positives very much outweigh those negatives for my use case. My 96GB crucial ddr5 ram was detected without issue immediately and the boot process with the new ram was much faster than any other pc I own when changing ram. It ran at 5200 MT. There's 2.5gbe here, the specs page here on best buy I think incorrectly list gigabit. The SD card reader, while in an unfortunate location at the back of the machine, is capable of UHS-II speeds. Port placement on the back hides cable clutter well. There's 3! m.2 drive slots. One of these slots is the smaller 2230, but I happened to have an extra 1tb from upgrading my steam deck so I have installed that as a dedicated photoshop scratch disc. Be warned that there's no covers/heatsinks for these additional slots, but they can be easily purchased online (which I have done). Display supports G Sync, and I measured 97% DCI coverage with my i1 Display Pro. My unit has no backlight bleed at all (maybe won the panel lottery here). I didn't realize how much I would like the IR for windows hello, having this is a bonus. I guess no machine is perfect, but if you are looking for a DTR with a mobile 4080 and are willing to potentially have to do an exchange and this unit is still on sale (making it one of the cheapest 4080 laptops) this is a solid choice. I wish there was more customization (fans/power limits) but I am leaving mine in quiet mode with the 15 degree offset so the fans never ramp that high or really get loud at all, even when gaming for long periods or doing heavy creator focused things (lightroom 1000+ camera raw conversion, PS, etc). Definately worth picking up when on sale.

Excellent Laptop
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Using the Alienware 16" laptop has been an exceptional gaming experience. The sleek design and customizable RGB lighting made an immediate impression, and the 16" QHD+ display with a 165Hz refresh rate brought my games to life with stunning clarity and smoothness. The combination of an Intel processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics, and 32GB of DDR5 RAM handled every game effortlessly, with virtually non-existent load times thanks to the NVMe SSD. Even during intense gaming sessions, the advanced Cryo-Tech cooling system kept the laptop cool and running smoothly. The comfortable keyboard with per-key RGB lighting, along with the array of ports and Wi-Fi 6E support, ensured seamless connectivity and control. Overall, the Alienware 16" laptop provided a seamless and immersive gaming experience, proving to be a worthwhile investment for any serious gamer.

This model comes with one SSD pre-installed, but it supports a second M.2 PCIe 4.0 drive, allowing you to add extra storage.
