Amazon - Fire HD - 7" - 8GB - Black

I bought this tablet for my son and he has had it just over a year. The device started having problems just a few months after we bought it, with it constantly rebooting. I contacted Amazon about the issue and they sent me another device as there seemed to be a hardware problem. Now after just one year since their replacement device arrived it is now failing again. This time the device will no longer stay on, even when charged at 100%, the only way to use the device is to plug it into the charger, otherwise it just turns off and will not start back up. I contacted Amazon once again about the issue, however they said it was outside the warranty (by 30 days) and they would give me a new one for the low price of 170 dollars (apparently a discount from what they said). I declined however as I'm worried about spending more money on a device that fails often and will only last a year. I have owned numerous tablets both Galaxy and Apple and they continue to work year after year, so why this device is so fragile is beyond me. My six year old son is not pleased with the results either. I'll have to research another option for him in the near future.

Still finding things I can do on the Kindle. Learning new things. Just enjoying it.

I am so glad I bought this. We went to Best Buy just to see the tablets in person before we ordered on line from Amazon. This Kindle was $20 cheaper at the store than on the Amazon site. I use it for games and web surfing. but primarily as an e-reader. Books download in seconds and I love how you can adjust the format for reading.

First, I am an Apple guy. My phones, computer, Ipods, TV, etc are Apple, so I am not going to compare this to an iPad, because it's not and really won't compare. I will compare to the Nook though. That being said i wanted a tablet to take with me when i travel to read, look up some emails, surf the web a little and watch movies. That's really it. I have few apps i use. If it wasn't for wanting to watch movies I would have gotten the Paper White version. Anyway, I chose the Kindle Fire XD because of price was great. I chose this also because of the direct access to Amazon. I mainly chose this instead of the Nook because of the cooperation Amazon has with public libraries. It's not as natural wih a Nook. You have to have one of the color verisons of the Nook. Otherwise Nook only lets you buy Barnes and Noble books, not library books. I really love that if I am reading a library book on my Kindle and happen to leave it at home, i can go my Kindle app on my iPhone and continue from where I left off. If I want to read the same book on my wife or kid's kindles, I can do the same. If its on my accouni I can read the library book on any device. The only reason I chose this instead of the iPad was because I just can't in good conscience fork over that much more for what I was looking for. I like the speakers on this little tablet and the screen looks great. I don't need constant media in my face and in my ears as some do, so this is just right for me. If I need music I have my iPhone. I like the Poetic case and the screen protector I got for it. They are pefect. I would purchase this again and recommend it to someone else.

I was impressed for only $100. It is only 7" and has a lot of ads, but for surfing or the kids, it's great. Battery life lasts a good 6 hrs watching movies on wifi

My MIL got this for my 7 yr old and he loves it. He is able to download games and play. Plus it's not as expensive as an Ipad

Overall I love the tablet. its small easy to pull out and get on internet. Only thing is when loading apps you have to use internet and directs you to Amazon. Not sure if there is a feature where you can just have a app store on front page even if it directs you to Amazon to load or look up apps easier. Also the tablet is heavy you cant just sit it up without buying a case or cover with a stand. The back of tablet get smuges easily hard to wipe off

I bought this for my mon (her money) i just bought it hehe. She needs it because she's taking a Masters and they give her a lot of texts and documents to read. She has another Samsung tablet but the battery wont last long enough so i helped her chose this Kindle fire. I know it's an entry level tablet but can also be a second tablet for people like my mon who just need something even more portable. This Kindle is great, i met our expectations (actually i didn't think it was going to be that good). The size is great and it can read PDF's, office files just fine. It doesn't have a camera but it's fine. Nowdays, people have at least 2 devices with cameras, so in my opinion it didn't matter and that Kindle was intended to be used for studies, anyways... The great thing is the acces to amazon's books, videos, tv shows (prime subscription) it just works great! If you ask me, i will buy this kindle again for sure. I am actually thinking in getting one for me. The best part is the price, it's so cheap for the quality and its functions. Great tablet!
